And that's where we stayed, twice! Very nice, very friendly, lovely pool. If you like your full english, you may be disappointed as the breakfast is continental but many of the tavernas do them. And there are lots of tavernas all within easy walking distance of the hotel.

I've been, it's lovely. You must visit the Melissani lake in the underground Drogarati caves. Stunning, but not for the faint hearted or claustophobic! It's the perfect time to see the Loggerhead turtles, caretta caretta ;-) Enjoy!

Fab Marc sounds great, yes know about the breakfast, we'll just get some breakfast, as it says you can take it back to your room, and make it into packed lunches LOL and have breakfast out, whilst exploring :thumbs:

Got any fav tavernas we could try or ones to avoid

any must sees you can think of, like for sunsets/sunrise

Fab shot on your thread Julie liked them all as well Oh Oh Oh was her expression when she saw them

DaVeronica is one to avoid, looks good but doesn't deliver. Didn't really go to any others that we didn't enjoy but can't for the life of me remember the names of the really good ones. :bonk:. I'll try and remember over the next week.

Oh, and visit the San Gerassimos winery. :thumbs:

And thanks Julie. :)

Edit: The sunsets are pretty good viewed from the pool.

Take a trip to Fiskado quaint fishing village right at the top of the Island, Argostoli is the capital and the only city on the Island, they have a good market there. You can get a bus in from the resorts to Argostoli but you may need to book a trip to go to Fiskardo.

Brush up on your Greek, can make a huge difference:

KalasMera = Good Morning
Kalas Spera = Good Afternoon/Good Evening
Kalas Nicta = Good Night
eferisto = thank you
te kanis = how are you
yamas = cheers

Not sure of the spellings but they sound correct.

The turtles are fab. You can island hop to Zante which is nice too.

I have a Tommy tortoise too :)

A car would be good if you don't mind the nutty Greek drivers. The road from Argostoli to Fiskardo is like driving along the side of a mountain with a sheer drop, my wife was petrified on the coach. T

here is a very famous beach about halfway there with a fantastic view of it from the road (Myrtos Beach, google it), it would maje a great tilt shot, and just on from there is a small island with a bridge connecting it to Kefolonia which is also quite picturesque.

Thanks Ed, always let Julie drive she loves it deffo check out the beach Ive googled it look fabulous, havent checked out the bridge and island yet will do when I wrote this thanks again :thumbs:

Yep, Fiskado is lovely and the only town on the island where the architecture is from before the 1953 earthquake.

Also, Sami is the main harbour town on the eastern coast. It's what they dressed up as Argostoli when they filmed Captain Corelli's Mandolin (Argostoli had changed too much since the quake). Not too much there but it is quaint and it is a very peaceful place to have lunch and watch the boats and fishermen.

We hired a car for the whole 2 weeks (both times). It really is the best way to see the island, especially for places off the beaten track, of which there are plenty and they are real hidden gems.

Hi Dave, I stay in Argostoli back in 1981 so cant give you any tips apart from have a great time and dont forget to take your camera. :)

Im your man if you ever go to Cyprus.

I found the market at Argostoli to be a bit repetitive & boring however there is a memorial to the Italian soldiers shot on the island by the Germans during WW2 just outside the town. It become a little more poignant when you consider they were on the same side!!!

Also watch Captain Correllis Mandolin to get a flavour of the place (it wasn't as mushy as I thought it would be!!!)

The caves are well worth a visit as is Fiskado. We also went on the day trip to Ithaka to see the monestaries, goats, fishing villages & Myrtos beach. Do a bit of research though as some tours visit more places than others.

I am really jealous of you- have a fab time!

Cheers john

Weve watched Captain Correllis Mandolin when it came out may watch it again :thumbs:

Thanks Im sure we'll have a fab time :thumbs: weve wanted to go since 2001, when we stayed in zante, woohoo now were going:banana::banana::banana:

Snorkeling! Even on that busy beach at lassi go to either end and you'll see loads of fish. I couldn't believe how many I saw even though the beach was heaving! A couple of early mornings will get you some great empty beach shots, and I was also surprised how empty the beaches are at sunset.
Loved the place and the food, enjoy

We stayed in Skala & the beach shelved really sharply right at the waters edge to the point where I had to crawl up the shingle rather than walk.

I must have looked like a pink whale beaching!!!

Took the hire car around the peninsula, some awesome beaches on the west coast...then travelled down to Lixouri and got the ferry back to Argostoli.

:thumbs:

Just checked google maps it was Petani beach on the west coast...
Some good info on this site

Dave, go & enjoy it. As you know a major part of the island was destroyed by an earthquake in the 50s so there are probably ruins etc to look at but go in the early morning/ late afternoon as it will be so hot.

I am so jealous- have a fab time & take your circular polariser!
