Karma's 52. Updated with all!

Nice work. Maybe the bridge could do with a bit more detail? Eg a slightly longer exposure?
I am also in need of a new tripod. My Velbon has a crack in it and I have a cheap hama one that is not the best. Maybe between us we could build a super-tripod?! 9 legs would be better than 3! :D

really liking fresh start and water

Passion i love the idea but think that the glasses are too close to the edge of the frame and would have liked to have seen a more choic composition to convay the passion of the moment.

Thank you! Agreed on passion.

Blimey I've got a bit of catching up to do.

Fresh Start, well composed and shot just not doing a massive amount for.
Passion, not quite sure about the composition, the glasses and bra seem to be disappearing out of the frame.
Water, not half bad for someone in need of a new tripod!

Thanks Mark!

Thanks mate! The super tripod sure does sound like an excellent idea!

In regards to the longer exposure, can you see the slight Vignetting in the picture in a larger size? That's an issue with the Nikon D60, you get a natural vignetting happening once you start to cross the 2 minute exposure barrier. I have a longer exposure from Greece that really displays this, I'll find it and show you what I mean. When trying to correct it by PP it exagerated my tripod issue by showing a bit more vibration noise, so I thought I'd leave it. it can remain a bit dark

I completely agree with your crit though.

At the risk of sounding lazy I agree with the above!

I did a similar shot to your passion one for the theme "Easy" - it seems we have a similar idea of what represents a bit of lust! :D

I hope you do persevere with trying shots like you did for fresh start as I think you are going in the right direction. Maybe you are overthinking it a bit - take some time shooting the night stuff that you enjoy and come back to the still life stuff with fresh eyes.

Thanks. Yeah, I think you've probably hit the nail on the head. Overthinking it a bit! And I have to admit, your easy shot did provide some form of inspiration for my passion shot. You did it far more justice though :D

Just to come back to my point about D60s and it's "natural vignetting" take a look at this 3 minute exposure in Greece. the top 2 corners have gone a bit purple

Natural Vignetting!

I can't see anything wrong with that shot, bad tripod or not! Lovely :)

:agree:

I really like the darkness of the buildings in silhouette and the dashes of light. Great colour in the sky and water.

Yep . . . dodgy tripod or not that's a great shot.

I wish that I could find more to say, but I can't. It's simply a lovely image. I could really see it blown up on canvas.

Conor hi! and Sorry I'm late!

Fresh start: I like the composition - a touch more light would have worked for me!

Passion: Great idea (probably similar to what was in a lot of our minds thematically) but you've pulled it off nicely (if you'll pardon the expression) The glasses are a little lost against the dark surface but thats a minor niggle!

Water: Ah now that's nice and takes me back :) The larger version does it justice and i really like the symmetry emphasised by the light! Very nice :)

Ooooh, yes, I like this.:thumbs::thumbs:

There's plenty of interest to hold the attention, the colours are lovely and the sky is subtle. Have you tried cropping the top of the sky out at make a panoramic format? imho, it would work well on this shot, and it might also help with vignetting on longer exposures. A good excuse to treat yourself to that new tripod. :D

Thanks :) maybe I'm just coming up with excuses to buy a tripod!

Thank you! Defo think my comfort zone is at night time. Just need to stop being so lazy and get outside!

Thanks John! There's so many photos to be had around that bridge. A lot of my photo stream is from around there!

Thanks Jean. Never thought of cropping out the sky and making a Pano out of it. I might try that see how it turns out. Thanks for the tip :)

Very nice indeed. Lovely reflection too. For a tripod, have a look at the redsnapper... very solid and not expensive either. As for the natural vignetting.. that looks like it might be amp glow.... heating of the sensor caused by the amplifier being on. Turn on ICNR and see if that helps remove it... That will of course take and subtract a dark frame from the image (removes the noise) so if you take a 3 minute shot, the camera will be out of action for a further 3 minutes once the shot is complete.

Water - lovely waterscape. nicely captured .

Thanks. Redsnapper, might invest in one of those! I never heard of ICNR, I best go have a play with that. Thanks for the tip :)

Thank you.

Water:
Sorry I don't really like it :(
Would benefit from a few things IMO
a) taking the photo a bit earlier before the sunset completely.
b) shooting in RAW to enable the white balance to be adjusted.

I think the potential is there for a great photograph as the bridge, reflections and lights could all work to draw you in to the shot, but as it is....it's a miss from me...sorry.

No problem not liking it! No need to apologise. The photo was shot in raw. What you're seeing is almost exactly what the light was like that night, just too dark. I could have adjusted it to make it look more natural but I liked the oddity of it, there was some wierd colour thing going on in the sky that night. I do think I need to open up the aperture a little more to compensate for the shorter exposure times, and also look into this ICNR stuff.

Edit: Oh, and I do agree with shooting it a bit earlier. Was a shot that could have benifitted from a bit more light or something.

Ok, so this one sort of fell in my lap. I had a couple of ideas, but I don't think there's much of a chance of them happening so was pretty lucky with my day in Picadilly.

Basically, as you know, Picadilly is full of the flashy advertisements etc etc. A friend and I were there taking photos today, but as I took mine the advertisement changed... and this was the result:

The sign actually read "Prick your ears...". So that's as out of context as I'm going to get for this blasted weeks theme

Catch up time for me...

Fresh Start...Not really liking the lighting on this one... the idea was a good one but it's not really doing anything for me...:(

Passion...Now you have a great bit of lighting matching the props...great choice of colours involved...:clap::clap:

Water...Yes that's beautiful and very effective lighting to show off the water so well...lovely:love:

Out of Context... well... Yes you really did get the theme spot on... Well and truly taken Out of context... I like it...

:D:D Brilliant! :D:D

Nothing more to say really apart from who the hell put this theme in the bag anyway??! :bat:

That is soooooo taken out of context. Great interpretation of the theme and one of those lucky shots that you get when you least expect it.

As an image on its own I'm not sure that it's quite doing it for me, but in the context of this week's theme "well done".

:clap: very well done KG... spot on catch of something so way out of context...

Sorry, should have said ICNR - In Camera Noise Reduction

Thanks! :D. I think I'm going to reshoot passion though. Purchased a new flash which arrived today so that will need a test subject

 Yeah, photographically it's not great, but theme wise I thought it was quite fitting.

Now that's being in the right place at the right time, seeing the possibilities AND having your camera with you.:clap::clap:

imho the photo's more of a record shot than a great photo, but what it's recording lifts it well out of the ordinary. Big  from me.

Jean

Agreed. It's not so much an excellent photo, but a right place right time snapshot!

:clap: very well done KG... spot on catch of something so way out of context...

Sorry, should have said ICNR - In Camera Noise Reduction

Thanks! And I never put 2 and 2 together in regards to ICNR! I must check if my camera has that. Never thought of checking it out.

How rude.... but very funny, well spotted and well taken.

Great spot!
photography is about keeping your "eyes open"....and you certainly did that and bagged a perfect fit for this weeks theme!

Thanks! Although it's not one of my better photographs "technically", I was quite proud of the resulting image.

How rude.... but very funny, well spotted and well taken.

It is a tad rude when taken out of the context. I think the advert was trying to tell me something!

Ooh, sorry Conor, where have I been :(

Aah, I remember, I did a massive catch up last week and missed yours because you'd already posted your OOC shot and I didn't want to look as I hadn't done mine yet.

Fresh Start - doesn't say it too me but how many times have I shoehorned a picture in  but I love the photo :clap:

Passion - Another good interpretation (and like I said to someone else) you 'borrowed' most of then stuff?? I like the fact that it's got a dark feeling to it too.

Water - I really like this picture as I like the fact there isn't a lot of light.OK, you could have gone earlier and got more detail but that would have been a different shot with a different impact. So another  from me.

OOC - you certainly caught the moment there  and that's as much what this challenge is about as it is about grabbing the 'perfect' shot as it makes you (well me anyway) more observant.

I like it. made me chuckle:clap:

Thanks Jill! No worries on the catchup. I've done it myself when I've not wanted to peek at a certain theme! Thanks for the nice comments

I like it. made me chuckle:clap:

Thanks Jon! I did too when I spotted it :D

Ok, bubbles. When I saw this theme I thought AT LAST! Something that sounds easy... :nono:

Well, it was very difficult, but I can't say I didn't enjoy it! I spend all day today messing at the kitchen sink. Here's the result... more "bubble" than "bubbles":

DSC_0230.jpg

There's a few things wrong with the shot, but I'm best man at a wedding in Ireland this friday and haven't started my best man speech yet... so photography has to take a back seat :dummy:

catching flying bubbles is certainly not easy.....

this is a good attempt and the slanted background adds some dynamics to the shot.

however..it does seem a little under-exposed...

glad you had fun though - we certainly did getting my bubble shot for this week....

It does look a little dark, I also can't decide if the bottle is to much of a distraction. You've caught the bubble really well though!

This was a harder theme than I first thought.

Out of context made me laugh out loud - excellent :D Top shot :)

Nice bubble Conor :) Framed well and I like the angles and the splash of blue :)

Very good shot imho :)

Out of context, very funny/

Bubbles, I like this, perhaps without the blue object in the background, and a straight horizon line in the background, but this is the kinda thing I wanted to do - but didn't buy any bubbles when shopping, well done

Thats exactly what happened for me as well - I've spent about 5 hours today pratting about with bubbles and loved every second!

As you say there are a few things I could pick on but kudos for you for actually getting the floating bubble which is something I half heartedly tried and failed to do.

Good luck with the best man speech - are you taking your camera along to the wedding?

Thanks. I think you're right about the exposure. For this type of shot I probably should have got a bit more light in there.

Thanks. I was trying to get a bit of colour in the shot, hence the bottle. Not sure it worked. Maybe I should have chosen a better background or something. Will have a think about this one

Thanks. It's interesting taking photos like this. It's quite far from my comfort zone, so I find it more of an effort to try make the photo interesting

I did take the camera, but my OH was mainly behind the camera. She's not into photography, but still managed to get a few nice photos. I best dig through them, if I find a couple of good ones where I pushed the button I'll post em. Thanks for the comments too :)

I think bubbles has been one of the most fun themes that we've had.
There might be a few niggles with the shot, but well done for getting the bubble in flight and in focus too!!!!!

Personally, I like the blue bottle and the way that it intersects with the bubble. . . was that deliberate or just the way that the shot came out? Either way I think it adds a splash of colour that's needed in this one.

I'm not quite decided with the angle. I keep swinging between loving it (adds interest) to being irritated by it (keep holding my head to one side) :D
