Justlooking's 52 for 2010 - week 52 together - page 18

thanks for looking all. I orginally did the black in quite bright light and didn't realise just how bad it was until I looked again on a duller day. I will have a play in elements and try and make it better.

Week 28 relaxation

just a shot so I don't miss a week.

Like doing the "quick crossword" with a cuppa to relax.

Good take on the theme, and the DOF seems to work well on it.

You've nailed the DOF and I really like the contrast between the bright colours and the dull background.

Excellent take on Relaxation - why didn't I think of that :bang::bang:

So its not 'just a shot' :nono:

As Tracer says, the bright colours work really well with the background and I like the DoF on this.

I know how hard it can be to keep the 52 going - I disappeared for a couple of months - so well done you for keeping with it. I'm sure your inspiration/motivation will return soon.

 I know how tough this 52 lark can get, so well done for sticking in there. And this is better than "just a shot". There's obviously been some thought in the composition and those bright colours are very nice. In fact, I'd be tempted to up the saturation to bring them out even more.

I like the obvious outdoor setting too. Really makes me think about relaxing in the garden.
The camera angle / PoV is spot on, but I'd have been tempted to either move the props a bit further backwards or forwards on the table. Either to include more of the garden beyond the edge of the table or to completely fill the frame with table top.

Nice idea, and good to get a shot in, im getting a bit flexible with myself and i've left a couple of shots out on themes i didnt like. Im thinking of picking my own theme this week too.
I'd be tempted to bring a bit more of the crossword into play so it becomes more obvious thats what makes you relax. A bit of steam drifting off the cup of tea would be a gem too.

I like this a lot
nice contrast between the coloured mug and the mono newspaper/table
(a bit more saturation wouldn't go amiss as mentioned above)

I also like that you seem to ne making table-top a sub-theme!

and certainly not "just a shot" well done you!

a simple yet effective shot for relaxation - shot could have been improved if yoiu'd taken the shot from a slightly higher angle and actually shown some tea/coffee inside the mug as from this angle, the mug looks empty. And as Chris mentioned, a bit of steam from the mug would have added impact.

Good idea and bang on theme. As the others have said the bright colours go really well with the newspaper and background. I would have probably gone in a bit closer. I also like the idea of some coffee in the mug. Well done for this week.

Thanks Sarah - I was finding it hard to get an angle that I liked.

Ahh steam would have been good :bang:

Thanks for looking Mike, I find messing about with the contrast interesting .. I do up the contrast but general comment is often "up the contrast" so perhaps I am not doing it enough !

Hee hee the mug looks empty because ..... it was ! but I agree would have been better full

Thanks Jenny

week 29 Grace .. or more accurately The Selkirk Grace

I have been reading people comments and in general it seems I do not up the contrast enough on imgaes.. I find this really hard to judge where to stop, as I do up the contrast in most cases but still get "up the contrast" !!

Anyway here's my one for this week

 Contrast looks perfect to me on this one anyway. Not sure of you upped it more than you usually would or if it's just the subject matter, but it works.

The rhyme really made me smile. Nice arrangement of props and I like the attention to detail with the wine glass and recurring pinky, red colouring.

It might just be me, but I have the same problem with this one as last week though. I just don't like the cut off at the edge of the table with a thin strip of garden showing. I think either an arrangement on the tabletop so that the frame was filled with table, or a lower angle to deliberately include more garden would have worked better.

A good take on this weeks theme and with the Scottish 'flavour' to the image gets my . I am finding the image a wee bit busy though, maybe matching table mat and coaster would have brought it together more (feel free to ignore that, its my OCD :D). I do like the thought behind the image, a few cropping tweaks and its there. Iain

Nice take on the theme but also find it a bit busy, a candlelit table would make for a moody shot. A tablecloth would remove the diagonal lines accross the table.

A good interpretation of the theme, but I too would prefer it without the top edge of the table. Contrast looks right to me this time.

thanks for taking the time to comment.

lesson from your comments - I need to think more about the background:bonk:

A great idea, and I really like it... agree about the table edge... I feel it would be better without it... not sure on the lines... they do sort of work...

week 30 endings

Not sure about this one .. but at least it has a plain backgound ! :D

hee hee - I like it!

Nice idea for endings, plenty of them here. Background isn't bad, but needs a bit more light angled from below the cables to whiten it out some more. And I have no idea why but I keep turning my head to the left. I seem to want to see it rotated clockwise 90 degrees.

great idea, it works well for the theme.. I think it could do with a teensy more light...

ipod/iphone x2
sony erickson x2,
nokia x2
and a USB small b...

How did I do... ? :D

Grace: This definitely fits the theme. I must be sharing Iain's OCD because I want to put that glass centrally on the coaster! The edge of the table doesn't worry me though, and the text of the grace is easy to read. :)

Endings: Another good interpretation of the theme. Yes a bit more light on the background would have been good, but I like the composition and to me they look a little like a bunch of rather unusual flowers! Don't water them, though. :D

The only light is from a window and it was a very grey day .. I agree the background really needs more light.

I like the idea, nice composition and on theme, I think it could do with a bit more high key on the background to make them stand out a bit more.

High key ?? make it whiter?? :help:

hee hee you did very well ! the small USB belongs to a Blackerry

Thanks Jean - the reason the glass is annoyingly not on the coaster - I kept cutting the top of the glass off .. very poor excuse though.

My electric bunch of flowers - that's exactly what I hoped they loooked like :)

Thanks for looking everyone

That's bold and bright and in your face. I kept driving past these thinking I'd have to stop one day to do just this. The colour is great.

I agree with Darren on electric. Bold, bright and bang on theme. I think it would benefit from cropping out the white on either side - but it does work.

And now onto your bunch of electric flowers for endings.
 This is actually one of my favourites out of your whole 52. Well composed and well thought out (but I bet you were kicking yourself when electric was drawn this week!)
As has been said, it could do with being a bit brighter to make the b/g really white but I really like this a lot.

like your electric
agree with previous posters, crop out the white parts

Fits the theme, no questioning that.

Thought of shooting one of these myself, although selective colouring is sometimes not preffered I wonder if a wider shot would have worked, converted to black and white but with the sign in its striking yellow.

A good, bold image - straight to the point and colourful.

Simple but effective.

Thanks all .. will try croping out the white when I get a chance .. as you will see from this weeks photo I am busy trying to "transform" my lounge/diner so not got much time.

week 32 Transform

some of the things I am using while trying to transform my lounge / diner

A nice clean and well exposed product shot. My brushes never look that clean when I'm done with them :) Good luck with the decorating.

technically I am most impressed
your work seems to get better and better each week

not quite sure if there isn't a small crowbar in one corner

but then
I haven't posted anything :embarassed:

Trying to catch up...

Endings: clever idea which makes an interesting composition. Agree it just needs a lighter background.

Electric: colourful, eye-catching and to the point, especially if you crop it as suggested.

Transform: beautiful clean colours and arrangement, and excellent lighting - you have nailed the white background this time. Good luck with the decorating!

A good range of images you have there, i have missed a few (again) :S

Endings: interesting idea and looks similar to my desk leads and cables everywhere, but I would havent of thought of doing that shot - well done ;)

Electric: As already said bold, strong, direct image

Transform: Does what it says on the tin, well done, good lighting, nice product placement (you lose the big tin a bit in the back, but it doesnt hurt the image none)

well done ;)
