Just how low can the Murdoch Empire get?

Re-read what I typed... It should be "at additional cost".

Bordeaux and the Internet not good bedfellows.

I've always had a guarded opinion of Sky.... this took it to an all-time low. From this perspective Sky missed an opportunity to gain my respect. Hardly complicated.

I'm sure they're losing sleep over that as we speak

I have only just discovered this thread, very strange IMO.
Yesterday, there was "wall to wall" coverage on ALL the channels of the D Day commemorations (and rightly so IMO), including the epic film "The Longest Day", which I watched for the umpteenth time.
I forget which channel it was on, but I don't have Sky, just the normal Freeview.

Yeah... I know and I apologise for the Bordeaux induced ire and tirade. I came to this from all angles but originally missed an all-important word (additional). Totally alters the meaning of what I was trying to say.

I just went searching on Sky for the "Longest Day" and noticed, if you wanted it 'on-demand', there would be an additional charge on top of the subscription - to my mind, out of order. I agree I could've watched on CH4/Film4 - neither bothered me as I have it in my (paid for, commercial) DVD collection.

I also for, clarity and honesty, have not edited my O/Post - my gaff is there for all to see. :)

Apologies to all for misleading you. I still think Sky were 'low' in doing it this way though - and my Subscription is close to reaching a conclusion.

Did the ferry companies and coach companies charge to take the old boys over? If so do they feel your wrath?

Sorry can't agree with the op. We live in a commercial society. Does the op think all the vets. who went to Normandy to pay their respects didn't have to pay for that "privilege" Why on off does the OP feel anybody is being disrespectful if they don't agree with his rather funny perspective on life.

I bet they didn't make additional, extra charges! (Maybe you should read post #47 - reference my mistake?)

OP! I just read the thread.. noticed your user name.... something doesn't add up :)

Chuckles - which branch of the forces were you in? You were in the forces weren't you?

I phoned the army yesterday, you know what, they wouldn't give me a tank for free so I could pay my respects driving it though my local town centre. Heartless b'stards. Honestly I pay their wages...

Just noticed this thread. For the sake of fairness the BBC have been carrying programmes every day at 09:15, and it was on BBC all day yesterday (06/06/2014). Now the last time I looked I was paying the BBC TV tax. Admittedly the BBC are not supposed to be in it for profit, but you still have to pay to see the programmes.

I still refer to post #47

Any more strawman arguments?

I was on one of the Ferries that took them across - the Government paid for the trip plus a companion, (I think that they paid for the companion as well)

They were all having a good time - I spoke to a few

Could not really get near them to take shots, because of the "pro" guys who just stand in front of you, but here are a few I managed to grab

Lovely pics...thanks for posting.

Really still can't see what the OP is getting his knickers in a twist over. It's a film nothing important really.

Blatant profiteering from a solemn occasion! Still, I shouldn't be surprised - leopards and spots!

Excellent photographs Bill.

Again don't see why it is so much of an issue.
