weekly Judi's 52 in 2014 week 33 and 34 added

a movie star ...

judi that second pic is priceless, but the crop/composition is wrong: no feet!

He's gorgeous Judi :) Is that cheese he's got? I love the first shot where he seems to be saying "What's this then?"
Thanks Elaine :) its an iced bun.
Yeah first shot for me too... more an "off guard" shot...
Thanks Colin :)there were about 5 shots all just a little bit different he didn't know we that I was taking them
Hi Judi
just love that lemon pig...brilliant  of the 3 images I'd have to go for #1 , the sharpness, placement of piggy , colors & shadow all work really well (y) #3 a close 2nd ....the rumples in the gingham just detract a smidge
Step....I'm not much good with kiddy shots so would go with #1.....the whole of the child in shot , good colors , nicce n sharp & a lovely expression on his face :)
Thanks Lynne :) I had fun with the lemon pig, just wish i could think up a few more
Great take on the theme for Linked. No1 for Step. It looks very sharp, i prefer that it is not so cropped and the expression on your grandson's face gives it more interest. Great job.
Thanks Richard :) he is my @Great Grandson' unfortunately they are both as shot so can't change it :(

1st shot composition wise Judi (y) 2nd one certainly brings a smile, I can relate to that face mi self whilst eating a French Fancy

:D

Have to agree with everyone 1st pic for me, he looks a little confused about what it is. the second one he has a great expression but it might have looked better tightly cropped

Hi Judi....two super clear pics .... I really like the fact they are so natural and not posed, I like the composition of the first as we can see his feet. By the expression on his face in the second one.....the bun must have been delicious :) Yes, the second one would look good cropped to capture that heavenly look.

Thank you Phil, they were one of those quick look at Harry get the camera, so very rushed :)
Step - no one for me as well good composition I like it.
Thank you Mandy :)

Thank you Allan,I think you may be right about #2 but there wouldn't have been a step :)
2 lovely shots though #1 edges it for me as the composition is spot on with him all in shot and the more natural expression.
2 definite keepers (y)
Thank you Michael, I love those there are 4 altogether:)

Thanks Susie, if I had cropped it it wouldn't have fitted the theme:)

Hi Judi :)

That first shot of your great grandson is a lovely one, a brilliant expression he looks deep in thought/bemused, Crit... my usual whine on Archive Shots, but just ignore me :coat: - the actual image submitted is just about bang on for me, great composition, nice colours and well lit, a photo to treasure

thank you Dean I love it too :)

Swirly chocolate and linked sausages both work for me :)
Thank you Alan :)

thank you Alan the sausages were fun to do :)

Nature - I like the composition and it's a very pretty picture. However, and this is purely a personal thing, but I'm just not that keen on that pale shade of lovat green and I think I would have been tempted to warm it up a bit with more stronger yellow tones.

Hi Judi, butterfly looks nice and sharp when viewed large on flickr, sorry to be a pain but the second one looks too light much prefer the first one
and good idea for natural too

hi judi, well done for getting the butterfly framed well and nice and sharp. I do feel it could do with being isolated a bit more, possibly with a shallower DOF as it gets lost in the frame slightly and its not immediately obvious what it is. A very nice capture even so.(y)

Thank you Allan, the two butterfly's were fairly well hidden in the Hydranger
Works well for the theme but it's not really keeping me engaged as long as i want it to.
Thank you David :)

Thank you Adam, I quite liked the fact that they were hidden, doing their mating in private ;)

Old photographs....:naughty: :)

I'll comments on the natural blonde. On theme and good lighting with clean BG. I'd like a bit of drama as it's quite static. Perhaps a swing of the head to have Movement in the hair.

Cheers.

Step - I feel #1 is much stronger. You've got the subject on the third and totally engrossed in whatever is in his hand. Nice portrait

Nature - I prefer the edit of the butterflies. Unfortunately some of the blossom is in the way but that would have been tricky to have done anything about.

He was focused on his bun Peter,
I took several they stayed there quite a long time but they were all very similar
thanks for looking :)

This pretty much, but good take on the theme and lovely colours! (y)

Nice flutterbies, I like that they are well camoflaged and takes a while to spot the first one, let alone the second.

Natural blonds works well, nice white BG and lovely colours in the hair.

You don't need any help Judi :p :D I think you've done really well (y) You may have been able to use exposure compensation, but I'm afraid I've still to learn how to use it to its full advantage so I'm no help at all

The last one is a great action shot, good pov but possibly a little lower?....... viewed on flickr at the larger versions, you can see a little motion blur on the dog's tail which is spot on (y) the whites of the poles do seem a little bright to me , have you tried bring them down a little in PP?

I agree with Phil - not about the whites of the poles.. they look fine.

Shutter seems pretty much spot on - maybe the 1/640 slightly better than the 1/400 but not much to pick. Last one really shows what the little dog can do and works well coming across as well as towards you.

Only thing I'd suggest is maybe pre-focussing on the top rail, and waiting for the dog to appear, burst firing might give you a nice sequence too. Nice set.

Nice set Judi, I like the last one the best, its been captured at a nice point in the jump. The action has been frozen really well too so you don't need any help with that! One thing I would try would be a slightly lower POV, just to see if it works any better. Were you having trouble with your hit rate? I only ask with you asking for help? If so, have you tried the AL SERVO focus mode (Canon), really helps for tracking moving subjects?

Phil, I couldn't get much lower, the jump is quite low, and Gem is only about 14" tall at her shoulder :)

Graham, I started to get a few when i tried focusing on the pole, she loves jumping and to be honest we don't normally let her jump as high as that but I couldn't get low enough :)

Adam, I had been trying to get her in focus for most of Tuesday and Wednesday about 200 pictures and not 1 fit to post! so getting very frustrated, I was on AL SERVO and in the end I upped my iso to 1600 ( which is very high for me, most of my life i've used film and 400 was grainy) then back button focused on the top pole, but the focus point didn't track was it because i used the back button focus and kept it pressed, altho' I got some half decent ones on Thursday I still feel that I'm not getting something quite right in the camera settings the camera is a 70D fairly new.

Thank you very much for your kind words Guys your help is much appreciated :):)
