Love those light painting shots! I'm hoping to employ a bit of this at some stage in my 52. Really well done!

I like your presentation shot from leaving your submarine, but it's the light painting for me this week. It's something I want to try but just haven't got round to.
The 3D box isn't perfect, but it's really effective and I actually like the fact that it's not totally lined up and joined.
The 3 colour effect is brilliant - How did you manage that?
Magic![]()
The multi colour light painting was done with a 99p light wand i purchase of ebay.
I dont think we could get a tougher theme, but i am sure they will prove us wrong
Jon, Please please don't say things like that.. it's almost guaranteed to get an absolute horror of a theme within a couple of weeks
Anyway, I like both of them, they both work well and fit the theme.
(even I ventured outside this week, so the 52 must be doing us some good!)
Hi Jon, it was a good opportunity when someone asked you to take their photo. What a pity they moved. Anyway, bang on theme.
I am like you, I could never approach people on the street and ask them.
Sorry I missed last week's but I like all of them. I don't have a clue how to take photos at night, either for light trails or people.
Jenny
It's an interesting record of the youth of today. Blue cardigans on a lad? I'd have had my head ripped off for wearing that in my youth.
I think it's a good composition (apart from the Parasol growing out of the girls' head)
Ian
Shame about the blur but at least you tried something out of your comfort zone Mate![]()
Agree that the blur is a bloomin' shame, but the colours are nice!
It's quite exhilarating this shooting strangers lark, isn't it?
Well done!![]()
like others said , shame about the blur. but top stuff , asking them to hold still for a photo of your own, that must take real balls , i still struggle trying to do it on the sly, although i have recently found out a few pints of dutch courage certainly helps on the way
but great job getting out of your comfort zone![]()
Despite the blur I like the lighting and as others have said - well done for getting out of the comfort zone - I think that is a really important part of doing a 52!
Phil
When people hand me their camera and ask "would you take a photo"? I'm always tempted to reply "sure, what of"?
I like it, the lighting is great as is the WB, sure it's a pity the lassses moved but that's life eh?
Is that a bloke wearing a cardy !!!??
Just to echo others, well done on getting out of comfort zone and getting the shot - to me thats the point of this 52!! Shame about the blur, yes, but I dont think that ruins the photo. White balance spot on, and now I feel like eating a pizza![]()

Bang on theme Jon and good to see you doing something out of your comfort zone.(even I ventured outside this week, so the 52 must be doing us some good!)
And you can definitely tell that they're young . . . Brrrrrrrrr I'm feeling cold just looking at how little they're wearing at that time of night![]()
It's really well lit, and a lovely glow coming from the darker buildings behind them. It is a shame about that bit of motion blur, but it certainly doesn't spoil the shot.
Well done for having the bottle to ask for your own shot. They look like reasonably human kids too, so must be nice not to get grief from them.
Great shame about the movement, but it was a 1 second exposure and you could have bumped your ISO from 100 to help a bit. Well exposed though for the conditions.

well done, I wouldn't have the courage to ask people. Pity one girl has an umbrella growing out of her headDon't you just hate when cafes put their brollies in silly places

Well done for having the bottle to ask, and apart from that motion blur it's a good shot, well lit etc.
I like the idea... but want to be able to read all the captions on the diagram![]()

Indeed, the idea is a sound one but you already know your DoF and point of focus are wrong. This would work nicely as a portrait with the diagram in focus and all the text OOF to signify the fact we'd all be lost reading it no doubt. Your labelling in the photo isn't helping a great deal as it looks at first glance to be part of the text and odd that it's in focus thereGood luck finding more time next week.
Shame it was a little rushed, I know what thats like when you get the dof a little off. Consider this a virtual kick up the backside and look forward to the next theme.

It's a great idea but a pity about the DOF.

Catch up time:
Present: I like both shots - but the light one is tops!
People: I agree with the comments about blur and the need for a faster shutter speed in this sort of situation, but it's still bang on theme and probably made their night.
Mechanical: I really do want to read the text as well as see the diagram, but then, I'm nosey! Definitely on theme and must take some kind of award for the fastest 52 ever.
Jean
Another one who wants to read the diagram text... That would have bought the DOF down and may have removed the corner behind it. On theme though.
So, so close but not quite there . . . for a 5 minute job this isn't bad at all though.
You've already picked up on the DoF and lighting so I won't repeat it. It's definitely on theme and as I said very, very close . . . if you'd just spent 10 minutes instead of 5![]()

Can see what you were trying to do, very good effort and the main thing is that you know what you would do differently next time.
Clever lens to manage to get the text bottom left in focus... lol
I see the word 'mechanical' on the page. But for me, these shots are always a cop-out and could be used for any theme so long as you own an appropriate book or a dictionary.
