JollyJacks 52 for 2010 - Week 19 - Ingredients

The second one says 'I hate my job, all these idiots get to drive fast around the track and I'm stuck here waving them on.'

Three good shots, I prefer the second for the boredom levels you've got him showing and the last one... although getting in a bit closer (probably not possible of course) would have helped it.

You've caught a wonderful expression in no.2, and no.3 is a great capture too - brilliant title.

Going to go with the flow here and say for Chemistry, I think I prefer the middle of the bottom shots. Lovely colours and spot on composition.

I prefer the third Candid mainly due to the excellent title. I guess for fitting the theme #2 is probably best, but that third candid makes me smile.

Nice.

Ian.

Middle one for me Jon.
It's kind of hard to offer much C&C because I don't really "do" people shots. However, I think that the close up in the middle one has the most impact and you've caught an interesting expression on his face.

Hope you had a good day out. (I'll have to hide this thread from my OH or he'll be really jealous)

Thanks sarah. it was a good OH would have enjoyed it

3rd one for me. The caption raises it from the norm as well

Andy

2nd one for me, how bored does he look :)

Thankyou for you feed back

I prefer the close up I think, both nice but the close up gives the pic a bit more 'hit'.

Good shots Jon - Great lighting in these - care to share?

Thanks Dave, these were taken in my light tent ( Not had much chance to use it yet), not got any pro lighting yet so this is lit up by a £3.50 desk lamp with a 40W bulb in it from Asda's

Thanks m8, i was alittle worried with the close up, i had chopped of the edges of the tom's and hadn't noticed until all pack away and had uploaded on PC.

Prefer No 1 love the sharpness and the colours, but then I am a sucker for colours  I can even taste them too Yummm

I don't think you need to worry about the edge of the toms, it just makes the pic more of a close up! Also I might go further and say you could crop a bit more off the top, you don't need as much black as you have got there...

Be bold, the toms will thank you for it!

Ok alittle bolder a little less black

Hi Jon,

I really like both of these. The colours are so vibrant. My favourite is the first one. I don't think it is a problem with the edges chopped off. However, I disagree with MadFrankie about cropping the top. I think the photo is really balanced the way it is.

BTW, I don't even know what a light tent is. I guess I have a lot to learn!

Jenny

First one for me as well Jon.

Really bold, bright colours and very sharp and well lit. Shows what can be achieved with minimal equipment.

Andy

Have to agree. Low cost as far as possible for my shots

I've just added a comment on your flickr as well. I'm just about getting to grips with it now :D

Andy

The first one for me, simply because the light and angle is better. The second really needs a bit of fill left side.

2 very good shots, I prefer the 1st as for me the lighting is a lot better.
The 2nd shot needs more lighting on the left hand side

Candid: I like the expression on the guy's face - he definitely wasn't posing for the camrea!

The third one made me chuckle - a good candid shot which tells its own story.

Produce: I prefer the close up of the toms - they look luscious! The black background works well and the closer crop works even better. The other shot is well composed with good colour and texture. A reflector on the left to lift the light slightly would have been good - but I'd say your £3.50 desklamp was a bargain! :)

Close up for me. love the contrast between the black and red, lighting is spot on and the composition works well. I have an urge for a fry up now !!

That's the ticket, I really, really like that closer crop. It brings the toms right out of the pic and makes you want to eat them. As someone mentioned, the black behind works well against the red and a great composition...

MY favourite produce I think!

Both are good but I really like the second version of the close-up. Terrific impact with the red on black -- makes my mouth water!

Thank you all for the positive feedback

great colours. Good to see really red toms! Most of the ones I seem to see in the supermarket are pale in comparison.

Ooo, now I do like those close cropped toms. Simple and effective! :)

   That's worked really well!!!
Close crop for me, but I do like the wider shot too.

The black and red combination has masses of impact, it's a good sharp shot and has just the right amount of DoF.
I agree with Jean that a reflector to the left would have just lifted that shadow a little and made it perfect . . . but it's still a winner just as it is

Sorry been so long since you posted, but thank you everyone

Excellent use of your light tent for the Produce shots, the tomato's look great.

Some how the Peppers don't have the same punch for Quad as the Tomato's did, it maybe just the Yellow colour.

I see we have a marksman in the Family and only 9

Yes i agree the yellow doesn't stand out as much, might have need to not put them on the chopping board, the tom's -1 might have been a better image for this week.

She is very good at shoot but she dont want to join a shooting club, pitty i think she would do well

Excellent peppers, it works well on both quad and chopped. I like it, and a nice idea. Well done to your daughter on the cub shooting competition, a real nice grouping too.
