Don't think "The Late Police" would worry too much if you posted something late...these challenges are for ourselves in my opinion...I would have no worries posting something late to get the shot I wanted....

, The late Police might not, but I'm trying really hard not to fall behind as I might end up just stopping. I know that for my summer holiday I will fall behind, as I'll be away for a couple of weeks.

I think the thing I've got from this challenge is that sometimes life gets in the way and you have to make do with what you've got. You've managed a shot that fits the theme, I agree it could do with a bit more punch, but that's easy enough to do. Well done for getting it done and don't worry if some weeks are better than others.

I totally agree with Mark. My pic this week is 'making do with what I've got' because I just didn't have any time (ironically, given the theme!) Like you, I try to keep up every week, because if I get behind I'll be sunk! So please don't beat yourself up - there's at least 2 of us in the same boat this week.
Oh - and the picture - well done. I always think Disney Park buildings look like theatrical backdrops - not quite real - and you've caught this beautifully.

Hey, don't be downheartened, I REALLY like that shot, I like the crop you've got on it, the colours of the building[being simple, but striking] against the fun-ness of the Disney clock

I was really struggling for errm 
inspiration for this week. Then it occurred to me, something that I often find very inspiring is music, and in fact my eldest is learning a number of instruments, and this has inspired me to once again get out my flute. I decided, given the size of a double bass (he's only 11, and the bass is as big as me...) that trying to get a shot of the whole thing wasn't going to work. So I used my Nifty and the Jessops flash to light it. I wanted to go for a dreamy look and feel with the processing.
I wasn't sure which worked best for the dreamy look, but I think I'm edging more towards the Mono shot (I know which one Dizzy would prefer).
Lessons
1) Inspiration can strike at any time (I'm sure I've said that one before)
2) Roll with it
3) If you can get the shot down early, all the better

Complex - Lovely shot, and I appreciate how difficult it is shooting shiny things so well done on that front. Like the composition too
Time - Much prefer the boosted version and again the composition is great. Even the weather vane is pointing in the right direction!
Inspiration - I think you have captured the dreamy look you were after best with the mono shot. For me it's a bit too dreamy TBH.

I do like it but think you have over done the dof a tad to much for my liking. I prefer the colour one, but find the two white dots of the flash very distracting, a quick clone out and it would be much better. Overall I think it fits the theme very well and works well.

And don´t worry about posting late or missing a couple of weeks, it happens to all of us. For Emotion I had to post a ´here´s one I took earlier´ picture as I wasn´t able to get out that week.

Thanks Jill. It's less about posting late and more about falling behind... I have enough trouble finding time in the week to do what I have to do, let alone carry on with the 52... If I fall behind, I may never catch up. I do like the shallow DOF effects :nuts:, but I think I've probably overdone it on this one and it's not to everyone's taste. Given how tricky the theme is (nigh on impossible) I agree that we are going to have to explain (unless someone has an obvious muse they are keeping secret stashed away somewhere

Seriously though - I do think more DOF would improve it by making it a bit less abstract and able to illustrate the theme more sucessfully.

Gotcha... The tuning key is the paddle shaped shiny bit.

Ok, I've reshot with more DOF, and worked out a way to reduce the glare of the flash on the shiny wood... Is this better ?

I prefer the first John tbh for the 'feel' and the colours and that dreaminess, but I just wish there was a point on the strings perhaps at the very end that was in focus!

My favourite is the mono one. I love the abstract-ness (? - if it isn't a word, it should be!) and the b&w works well with the instrument.
The colours are quite vibrant in both versions and I think they could detract from the Inspiration that is music. But, having said that - if the shot was, say a Fender I think the colour versions would win.

I struggled with this one, more through lack of time than anything else. I had planned last night on trying to do something with a couple of previous shots, but that seemed to be beyond my editing abilities. However, just now, I was making a cuppa and saw this going on outside the window... To me, this showed a clear case of wishing for some further development to take place.. (or at least it ought to ). It's a bit of a grab shot (not a lot of choice, the feeding took all of maybe a minute), but I'm glad I caught it.

Being a fan of abstracts, I really like this shot. Theres a good use of negative space and the lighting and clarity all good!

I love Disney, and I thought the first was a good capture, til I saw your second, that really does capture the colours and the feel of Disney.

Development:
Excellent shot! I have also tried to take shots of birds, and it is really hard to get them in focus cos they keep flippin movin!! You have caught the action and the colours and texture in their plumage beautifully!

I'm still struggling with effective use of flash, I much prefer brightly lit conditions, when it's all out of my control, and I'm not trying to add anything extra... It's a whole new art in it's own right, and I haven't got the normal stuff sorted out properly yet.
As for birds, I've taken on board advice I got from here and always try to get the highest shutter speed I can, whilst trying to minimise noise. I've shot at high ISO in reasonably good conditions to hit shutter speeds of 1/1000 and sometimes that's still not enough :bang:. Of course, with only a 250mm lens, I'm limited on my target opportunities, cos most of them are just too far away.
