Thanks Ruth, I like the idea of the library shot, one day. Maybe I shouldn't post the rejects, but I like to as it's part of the process to get the end resultI perfer the image of the books it's well composed and easy to read the titles, definatily a wealth of knowledge in those books![]()
Some lovely shots, really like the second lego crowd photo![]()

2 images - a wealth of images you might say
Both are technically good images and I like the way you have put non-fiction books on the shelf shows both outside the box thinking and a well thought out image![]()
Hi John, I like both of them but for different reasons.
The coins - well focussed, good composition, really sharp and the blue background together with the silver and gold give it opulence.
The books - I love books- the lighting works really well, DoF is spot on and the portrait composition really suits it. And if you've read all of those you must have a wealth knowledge inside your head. So 3 wealths

Both good - are they really choccies they looks so real!
Second is a great idea too and well taken!
So many wealths this week
I like the thought that has gone into the library idea so I would pick the books shot over the choccy coins for definate. I feel your pain with trying to light shiny things - it's a total nightmare and I think you have done a great job!![]()

and if I'd photographed my books you would have seen all my Bernard Cornwall collection...
I had the same sort of idea - must be good thenLike the addition of the finger prints especially the one on the glass - nice touch. Good crisp focus and accurate looking colours.
If you do a reshoot on this is it worth trying shallower depth of field? Don't know if it would add anything - maybe you've already tried it and it doesn't look as good.
Thank you, I know what you mean about the composition, I tried to get some diagonals in and put the key elements, the finger print on the glass, and the centre of the passport on the thirds. This is very much the pared down version of what I wanted to do based around a self portrait, but getting the elements shot and processed would have taken far too long.I like the idea and I think the finger prints add an interesting extra element. I'm not sure about the composition - my eyes are jumping around all over the place but with all the different elements I'm not sure how I'd go about setting it up differently
I completely sympathise with your second learning point - and just not having the time spare that you need. Well done for getting this shot and I really hope you manage to get some quality togging time in at the weekend for a re-shoot... looking forward to seeing what you come up with![]()
I think it works John, took me a moment to suss why the glass was there
I suffered similar composition problems with my monopoly shot getting lines and angles right! But I think you've cracked it
Theres something of the sinister about it too with the prints...!
Nice one![]()
Very good idea. Covers a few different angles on the identity theme. I agree on the previous comment on the composition of it, there's something that's just not right but again, I'm not sure what I'd do differently. One thing I would alter is the positioning of the fingerprint on the glass. I'd have tried to make it more identifiable as a fingerprint by having it higher up the glass and facing the camera.
Well done though!!
what if you'd stood the glass on the birth certificate and had the passport leaning against the glass and not had the finger prints on the paper..just the one on the glass..and perhaps done it in red..lipstick...or BLOOD!

Thanks Mark, yeah, black would probably have been better, or maybe dark blue...I was sure that I'd commented on this already... clearly not.
I like the composition and the idea and it certainly fits the theme, I'm just not quite sure about the green fingerprints. Perhaps if you had used a black colour it would have been better.

Interesting collection of items portraying identity. I have a few niggles about the image, the main one being that the edge of the paper the fingerprints are on appears on the left. However, the thought behind the image and your execution of it is good especially given the kit you have available![]()
Im not sure the green finger prints on the paper add to the image but i do liek the addition of the glass![]()
I can sense your frustration over this one, John. It's awful when all your ideas fall apart - but, honestly, if this was Plan W you've been very creative.
I love the dof as it is and the fingerprints are a great idea, but if you wanted to change the composition, I'd place them more to the right and at an angle to echo the line of the birth certificate and the glass.
I've found you can go on juggling objects round and round with this type of shot - it's nowhere like as easy as it looks.
Jean
