Yes
What terrible news for her poor family on today of all days - my heart goes out to them for their tragic loss.

Didn't think it had been confirmed. If so, dreadful news.

Kev.

It's unlikely to be confirmed for sure till after the PM tomorrow or Monday, but I don't think there's much doubt about what the outcome will be.

Very sad whoever it is.

ID not confirmed, but police have informed the parents who are reported to be very distressed. Not looking good.
These folks are doomed to enduring all future Christmases for the worst possible reason.

Terrible, terrible news, puts any minor complaints or moans one might have firmly in there place.

I hope (assuming foul play is confirmed) the ******* is caught quickly....

Better body found than lost forever like Marta del Castillo

ETA sorry that was harsh. But I personally would prefer to have a corpse to bury and know what had happened unlike poor Martas parents

Really? 15 years in a cushy prison with 3 meals a day (getting more spent on him than an OAPs home or kids school lunch), heating and TV... Then probably leave with a pile of cash in damages because he had the trauma of addressing the prison officer as Sir.

Terrible news, let's hope whoever did it swings!

No, you're right, far better the perpetrator isn't caught, so that the poor girl's family have to endure years of not knowing what happened to her, why don't you phone her parents up and point that out to them.

You should be ashamed of yourself for making a comment like that.

I know a guy who was a prison warder in a cat B prison until the end of last year, i'm not going into details but the things he told me painted a very different picture from that, prison isn't somewhere i'd like to be after listening to him for 20 minutes

If it's a sexually motivated crime whomever it is will not be having 15 comfortable years in prison. They'll be constantly watching their back in the Nonces Wing.

Poor family. What a bloody awful Christmas present but, as mentioned, it's probably better to know no matter how painful.

Is this someone from the forum or does someone here know them? Always terrible to hear news of someone losing a life but I feel I'm missing part of the story here.

We’ve known of her for about a week now James, and we’ve watched her mum and dad go through the worst that life can serve up via TV news interviews about her abduction.

I feel like I got to know her through them, fractionally yes, but sincerely nonetheless

Bloody sad.

No, of course its much better that the person is caught, and will make a big difference to the family (although they will still be in agony for ever after this), but my point was aimed at the injustice in the system. Look at the wife of Philip Lawrence, who had to deal with when the murderer was released and the pain and hurt there.

Does bring home what really matters...on today of all days.

Just terrible what has happened. There aren't really any words to say. She is only a little bit younger than me and the thought of something like that happening to any of my family or friends is just unthinkable.

All things of this nature are bad but for it to happen at this time of the year somehow makes is seem even worse.

I feel so sorry for the family and friends.

It does, although Christmas will never be the same if you do lose a loved one, it must be even worse to have the 2 events so closely connected. My thoughts also go to those who found the body. Just going out for a Christmas Day walk, and then to have that.

What a sad turn of events. I couldn't, and still can't, understand how she left her flat, presuming it's her.

As for her parents, I can't begin to image what they're going through. Parent's shouldn't have to bury their kids :'(

Whomever it is, the body they've found, I hope she's in a better place now.

Just my assumption of a likely scenario. The new boyfriend ate the pizza !

re-edit, deleted most of this post as not to offend in this age of sensitivity.

Age of sensitivity,:shake:

I think people have always been sensitive and compassionate when someone's daughter has been murdered.

My thoughts are with the parents and everyone who knew here, so sad, but as far as i a aware from the news this morning, no cause of death has been released yet unless I'm missing something

Grim stuff indeed...
I'm afraid I fully sympathise with Cambsno's initial comment - I think we all know that no matter how uncomfortable a modern prison cell might be, it's no subsitute for good old-fashioned vengeance.

Nothing's going to bring her back and i agree that having a body to bury is prefereable to 'not knowing', but the sense of impotence will never go away...the feeling that you somehow failed to protect your loved one. That sense of outrage (or even just rage) needs to be addressed also...

I've often wondered if out-sourcing to the Indian sub-continent might be an option for certain types of offender...? Along with email updates a la Facebook style:
"Offender A is this week mostly contracting amoebic dysentry and Hep-B at the hands of his 40 cell-mates and will find sitting-down uncomfortable for the next month or so..."

It seems the police are quite satisfied that it's Joanne's body - identification will be just a necessary formality.

I have to say I've been in most prisons in this country over the years, and I've seen them change from the old Victorian type prison with rigid discipline - intimidating even for a casual vistor, to what they've become today in the name of enlightenment and progess.

Well it has been confirmed. It is her body and the family have been informed.

From the Orange website
He said police are expected to soon launch a murder inquiry, pending the cause of death.

So sad. :( I hope she is in a better place.

Not only no cause of death i.e. It COULD have been natural causes but ALSO nothing to suggest that the friends and/or family aren't implicated in some way. Even Mum or Dad?

Lets not jump to conclusions as that may lead to a greater injustice.

I too am very sad about the whole thing. I was also a Prison Officer [we don't have 'warders'] and believe me prison is no soft option. Most people who have not been inside a jail would cringe in horror at spending a few hours there let alone years.
Every waking moment is controlled by staff, when they get let out and for how long. Letters, phone calls, meal times, social time all is controlled tightly. Prisons are smelly, noisy overcrowded and the threat of violence and intimidation is omnipresent and very real. Have a cell mate whose social skills end at pi**ing or w**king over your bed [or you]. Fun fun fun, but hey ho the telly in the cell makes up for it. Prisoners get sweet FA all and loads of it! But above all they lose their most precious assett, freedom.
As we used to say 'happiness is door shaped'.

Very sad news. I know it has not been confermed. But if the inform "her" parents, it seems the police are not saying all they know(obvious reasons). But my heart does go out to her parents. Christmas,s will never be the same for them now.

If they can have our call centres they can have our lags. See how they like getting to change underwear once per month. Even then it is Cell block "A" changing with Cell block "B" and "C" with "D" etc.

Thanks for clarifying this. My dad is a retired prison officer and although I don't know the full story of what it's like inside i've got a fair idea that it's not all fun & games.

Don't need prison for murder

Not a comment on this instance but murder in general.

You are of course correct, I was jumping the gun with my accusations of murder,

I do still think making light of the matter is extremely insensitive which was the point I was stumbling to make.

It is pretty harrowing. There are cases like this that capture peoples hearts for differen reasons, especially ones that happen so close to this time of the year. I hope they get to the bottom of this asap.

I have a gut feeling that we're going to see this cleared up fairly quickly - I hope so anyway.

Just been watching on the news her parents visiting the spot where she was found. How very brave of them, I dont know if I would want to go there :(

My heart goes out to them, can't even begin to imagine what they are going through.
