It all depends on the branch of Jessops
QUOTE]

Sorry but that should not be the case. As has been pointed out by others, Jessops are, in lots of towns, the ONLY photography shop. They should build on this monopoly and train staff to at least have a modicum of knowledge of the product they're selling.

I have to travel 100 miles to get to my nearest photography store, which happens to be jessops :p

I've never really had any problems with the staff, any of the times i've been in there the staff have all been pretty knowledgable and knew what they were on about.

It seems to me that Jessops have fallen foul of one of the most important aspects of business: consistency. Reports here suggest that some stores and the staff within those are excellent, whilst others suggest that the standard of service is poor and that the staff are not quite as knowledgeable as one would expect.

With the rise of the internet, photographic communities and online stores, Jessops should have realised that with this came widespread communication of reports of poor service. People usually remember either only fantastic customer service, or any aspect of poor service and that, in the main, crap sticks and if one reads a poor report on a www site, many people will remember this.

The interweb is a powerful tool and should be used with caution.

We should have a vote, if you thing they are a bunch of Muppets, then type MUPPETS if not type Fraggles.

Earlier this year I saw a really fantastic 19inch widescreen Philips monitor in PC World.

Went home and checked their website. I could order from their website and collect from the same store saving myself £70!

Needless to say I now have a very nice Philips monitor on my desk at home!

This is part of my point, why should i have to order it online just to drive 5 mins down the road and pick it up cheaper. It's the same lens in the shop, so why is it cheaper when i have to mess around printing things off. I dont walk into my local corner shop and buy 8 cans of beer for £8, then the shop keepers says, if you had printed the voucher online you could have had them for £5.

And another thing i couldnt print the voucher if i wanted, my printer run out of ink a few days ago.

Prehaps the muppet does not reside in Jessops but a little nearer to home!!!

This argument is [deliberately??] going round & round in circles. We all know what the situation is. If Jessops want to have special internet pricing to encourage electronic trading then so be it. It is not the fault of the staff who in my experience are helpful & courteous often in difficult circumstances.

If people want to purchase from elsewhere then do it.

I've never had a proplem with my local Jessops, they are normally really helpful :D

Comet are another company with a web price and store price, but I've never yet failed to get them to match their own web price in store.

There will always be jobsworths in large chains and it is their right to make us follow the rules they set out.

I do agree that it would have been a nice thing to have said, "ok we'll do it this time as you didn't see the option for collection but next time, you'll need to bring the voucher with you".

I did have a chuckle trying to work out the relevance of this little bit though.
They do all the printing for my (award winning) photographs

Do Jessops still offer a price match service?

Do Jessops still offer a price match service?

As i stated earlier in the thread, they have an advert in a few photography mags that says that they will match ANY price for cameras/lenses in that particular magazine, you just need to take the magazine complete with the voucher to jessops, the current run ends on the 31st September 2007 but i'm sure they'll do it again for October.

I take it from your address your local is Denton (At the retail park)

If so, they have always been superb with me, never any problems with price matching etc.

Denton i the local Jessops for me and maybe i did get a bad member of staff. But they lost out on £495.99p for having a stupid member of staff. Telling me they dont do price matching, and if i want it at that price i gota order online. Total madness from a retail chain thats in trouble.

This thread has gone round in so many circles I am now dizzy!

I agree Jimmy Lemon lets just leave it this, Jessops are a big bunch of over priced MUPPETS.
Thank you.

Not normal Jessops Policy i didn't think from what my local told me.

You came in a bit late with that one, I had drank a few beers when i made the comment.

I think this thread has ran its course now.
I do find it a little unusual that it was not possible to speak with the manager to see if the rule may have been swayed that one time but what has happened has happened.

Other members views & shopping experiences posted here are an important reference for potential customers to go by. A bad experience was had, the customer went elsewhere - word of mouth (& being the only store in town ) is very important promotion & it's up to peeps to make their own informed decision as to where to shop.

Does anyone know of a current magazine with a Jessops ad in it, I would like to look into their price match thingie as I'm planning on a new lens in the next couple of days.

Steve...:)

I now also hate Jessops. My Canon batteries both died and I need some more for a shoot tomorrow (only have one spare) - The Canon 'fit' ones online are £5.99 in 7dayshop or eBay etc. Jessops want £30.99

Practial Photography always carry them, as does Digital Camera (better mag IMO :p)

I know the latest issue has a Jessops ad in, (DC Mag...I subscribe to it), not sure if it has the price match page in it though (although I think it does)

There is no ad in digital photo for jessops in the Oct issue

Ok my take on this is as follows:-

As per other companies they have an instore price and internet only price, I can understand this some one coming in just to pick up the item they ordered online will not normally take as long as some on coming in and asking advice etc etc. ( I konw in your case this would not have been the case.)

You did not see the small print on the website, I do not think that you can blame Jessops for that.

You got upset that they would not print off the voucher instore ( which I can understand) but the store probabley has rules that they have to work to ( again not the assistants fault)

When I have used Jessops in the past sometimes they will price match sometimes they will not, if they don't I walk out, as you say their loose not mine, Knowing that they are more expensive this is a risk.

Having worked in retail in the past for a good many years if the customer is polite and doen't get abusive ( and I am not saying that you did) you will help them out far more than someone who gets funny with you. I do not know you but you have continually called them muppets in the thread and if you had been like this in the store and I was the assistant I would not have been as helpful as I could have been.

As I say just my take on the situation and I do not mean this to offend anyone.

Here's an up-to-date Jessops experience, of literally 5 mins ago.

Went into the Canary Wharf branch, and they have a printer I'm after - a Canon iP6700D. Advertised for £109, I've seen it on Dixons website for £91. So I went in, armed with the printout from Dixons, and asked the assistant manager to price match. He tells me they no longer price match websites, but then stands in silence for a few moments, umming and arrring before telling me there's nothing he can do. He then also decides to tell me it's the last one they've got, so it's an ex-demo... surely scope there for a price drop, but nope. :bang:

Net result, I'll be ordering through Dixons...

You know it can't be fun working at jessops these days. The company reeks of insecurity and they have gone from being a well priced high street outlet to a very expensive (in some cases) one.

Many people have bad expericences that they are all too willing to share, while the poor sods behind the counter (and lets face it, it's not their fault they don't get enough training) have to contend with rising prices, falling standards set from on high and worries about their jobs.

I know it wouldn't have me at my best.

That's the thing though, it's not just the ordinary worker behind the counter, it's managers and assistant managers too...

I do appriciate that a manager should be someone who has control and decision making powers in the store but I just don't think they are anymore.

The management at store level are just poor sods behind the counter. I think that unless you know a store that is still willing to take the risk of making a call, we all need to accept that jessops will be preocessing customers as bulk from now on...... and it's not really the shop staffs fault.

Then Jessops, as a High St store, will not be around much longer, in my opinion...

They have to adapt to the times, and they're simply not doing that

I think theyre trying to cover both areas of the market.

The internet world, where everyone shops because its easier.
And the high street, where they have the dominance, market presence, and of course, the shops with the high prices where passers by and newly-retired pensioners are happy to pay 100% of RRP for a camera.

I think if they were more consistent with their prices and policies, then they would be a much better provider. They would still get the passer by price from some, and still get the trade from those that are savvy enough to shop on the net first.

The prices they charge dont help them i will show you why, watch this space.

Check out the price difference between Jessops and Warehous Express it's no wonder they are going bust.
Total madness.

Sandisk 4GB Extreme III Compactflash Card
Jesops price £99.99 in store - Web price £74.99
Warehouse price £46.99

Sandisk 2GB Extreme III SD Memory Card
Jessops price £64.99 in store - Web £49.99
Warehouse £24.99

Picstop price for Extreme 3 4Gb is £36.

Having said that I bought my 40D from the local Jessops as I wanted it on the first day available, it was the same price as everywhere else (£840 then) and came with a 3 year warrenty.

I was really expecting just a box selling, but the assistant I spoke to actually surprised me with her knowledge of the product and various options/lenses. It seemed she'd been on a canon training two days just a couple of weeks before. Perhaps it's just individual stores?

Having said that - our local branch has good competition from two other good camera shops, Great Western and T4 Cameras. Perhaps that helps maintain standards?

As someone said above depends on the person who serves you in my experience, i got them to price match the sigma 10-20 with warehouse express on my way to the dungerness meet last saturday...the guy did so even though the voucher in the mag had expired 3 days beforehand and its wasnt repeated in this months mag...I would have got it from kerso if i hadnt decided i needed it that day :woot:
