JD's 365.

Day 224.

Another non-productive photography day. Stuck in the office until 3 o'clock on a training course for products that we won't see for a year, then be expected to be experts when we finally get our hands on one. So another macro filler shot. Tempted to go out later and play with the 14 3/4 stop filter, but I'm up early, so probably won't.

Similar to your shot the other day, but still fantastic bokeh, really striking. Maybe the white patch at the top is too strong as I find my eye drawn to that rather than the fly.

Day 225

Crappy day stuck in a sheltered housing development in Coleraine. Fire alarm system is old to say the least. I should have know to leave it well enough alone, but it had a problem and needed fixed. First problem was sorted easy enough, but another major fault raised it's ugly head. Basically, the panel's RAM card was wiped by a previous engineer, meaning that the location text for all devices on the system was missing. Typing in 200+ by hand makes Jonny an annoyed boy.

I was determined not to take another macro shot tonight, so decided to take a wee drive on the way home. Ended up at the Layde Church outside of Cushendall.

interesting angle there mate, what about mono too, Think that may become my catch phrase, I say it so much :D

Cheers Chris. I'll have to try to get the flash going on my macro, maybe I'll use a tripod as well....:)

Nah, leave the tripod in the van / house it only slows you down.

As for flash, have a look at the marumi (sp) ring flash. They're cheap and do the job well (i had one with the Tokina and it worked a treat)

Cheers Julian, I didn't like it in mono, it hid the green too much...

You could always B&W it and then bring the green channel up in PP to hightlight the trees a bit more :)

Day 226.

Horrible meeting about redundancies today. Yes, it is still dragging on. 2 people have voluntarily left, which leaves another 3 to go. It will be done on a points system or some **** like that. Who cares, I'm away to get drunk....

Exceptionally fed up tonight. Need to self medicate and talk crap to a few mates!! Feel overworked and underpaid, and to make matters worse, due to the agreement we made to lose overtime and half our callout fee, my wages today were exceptionally bad. :(

Sorry to hear the bad news mate, fingers crossed for the right outcome for you ;)

And the shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow!!!!!!!!
Stunning abstract macro, love it!

You'll be right mate, don't worry.
Ever noticed how feeling down can produce some of your best images?

I completely agree mate, I think it's because you stop thinking about how to take the shot and just take it.

You're producing some amazing shots JD. Sorry to here that the work crap's still going on. Hopefully you'll be through it all soon.

Thanks Marc. Have heard a rumour tonight that there could be some more volunteers for redundancy. So good news. :D I think the offer of 4 weeks pay for every year worked got some of the old timers thinking.

That's actually quite generous if you've been with the company for a good number of years. Would have loved to have got anything near that last year!

The carrot has been dangled, so to speak. Correct me if I'm wrong but is there an employment law that states that if they make someone redundant instead of them volunteering, the company then cannot rehire someone into the vacant position??

That would be correct. To make someone redundant, their position must cease to exist. Although there are probably ways round it, reorganisationsd, job retitling etc...

Yeah you just recreate the position with a different name, operations manager becomes head of operations.
Actually I'm not sure you can be quite that blatant about it, but that's the idea.

That's what I thought would happen, I maybe have another job lined up. I'm just contemplating whether I can live with less money. Less stress, and a better quality of job satisfaction. I'm just really trying not to imagine spending the money on a 70-200VR......

Day 227. Flashy Git Spider.

3822774955_64c6f25934_b.jpg

Quite pleased with this one, so you get a big one. (Only crit I have is that the flash is maybe a bit too harsh on it's body)

Horrible hangover today. Jagermeister's between beers is not big and it's not clever.

Anyhow, went to the Tall ships on Belfast today, what with the extensive media coverage, I thought "Great, a really good day out." Wrong, it's a load of ships docked. Overcrowed and underwhelmed I came home and decided to experiment with macro and flash. I like it, think it works really well.
