JD's 365.

I thought it was the law that you had to do a shot of an eye when you first get a macro lens, just like you need to take a picture of a cat / flowers when you get a zoom lens

Took about 4/5 attempts Nic. :) I put on live view and used a mirror behind it so I could frame the eye correctly.

Thanks Lisa.

Yes Chris, I think that is a rule in the macro rule book, I merely skimmed through it though :D

Great eye shot Jonny

I've had a macro lens for a couple of years and have never done an eye shot! I'm now saving that for a rainy 365 day!

Day 216. Clichéd Boat On A Beach.

3789076251_210351f0f5_o.jpg

Since it's the week of the clichés, I thought I'd take a shot that I'd been trying to avoid. This boat is on a beach at Bunbeg, Co.Donegal.

I've been consciously trying to take different pictures recently in a bid to try and test myself. But, you can't really go wrong with a boat on a beach. Or can you??

Used the evil HDR on this photo, and a proper one as well!! 3 separate exposures at -2, 0 and +2.

Looks like a fantastic subject, but I'm afraid the HDR effect does not work for me mate :( Maybe mono would be better

Sorry mate, but I'm sure you would rather have the constructive criticism than a million 'wow amazing!' comments ;)

Edit: sorry that was harsh, still nice to have 'Wow amazing' comments, but I think you know what I mean :)

I think the [problem is that I've taken the original shots with HDR as an intention, so I have slightly overexposed the 0 ones. If that makes sense, I just don't think there was enough there to make it a shot on it's own, I don't like this, very quickly processed though. I prefer the HDR. Don't be sorry Julian, it's hard to please everybody. One man's marmite is another mans buttery toast.

Hehe and I prefer that mono one :D

Also I reckon that boat hull is so cool it would look good filling more of the frame up too (for future reference, gotta be more 365 potential in that subject).

 There is more potential in it but it is by far the most over photographed boat in Donegal. I've avoided it like the plague for a year now!! It's used in about every brochure I have ever seen from the town or the county. Personally I'm a wee bit sick of the sight of the thing!! Hence the cliché comment.

edit: replaced B&W with more contrasty one. Still don't like it. :(

The B&W versions above are cracking, love 'em. Not sure what you by them not looking like photo's as they look fantastic ;)

I really sense you don't like this boat :D

I really don't like it. To me it's so far away from what I want to photograph. Taking a picture of this boat is like admitting to have given up completely, I won't challenge myself at all, I'll just take a picture of the most obvious thing possible.

It's more the concept of the boat and what it represents that I hate. God, someone tell me to go to bed.....:D

Day 217. Clichéd Rainbow Picture.

Day 3 of the Clichés.

Finally got round to buying my super dooper 45 stop ND filter today. ;) The weather here has been terrible, I stood out in the rain on the way home and photographed this, well 7 times.

Another Panoramic, 7 shots stitched with CS3. You can just make out Slemish on the left hand side.

It's lacking some definition on the right hand side, but was barely there in the raw's, about all I could do with it. I might try a "fake" HDR later when I'm a bit drunker.

Day 218. Special Filter and a Ladybird.

Was determined to get a use out of my special filter. So decided to give it a try this morning while waiting for a customer to turn up, as usual. It's a 47sec at f/14, at 849am.

Not a bad day really, I'm off to the cinema soon, so just a wee quick visit!!

Wasn't sure what picture to use, so used both. Completely different ends of the photographic scale, and both taken at the same place!! Tokina has excelled itself again, sharpest lens I have. Chris
