JD's 365.

Day 204.

3749243723_04aa5cf797_b.jpg

Horrible day back at work, even the weather was shocking in sympathy for me. Seen lots of lightening today, and attempted to take a few shots, but nothing came of any of them. I reckon I probably need an ND filter to allow a long enough shutter speed.

Was also down at my mums for dinner, she's holding up rightly considering. It's now exactly a week since Stevie died, feels like 2 days instead of 7. This is Scooby, the black one. He's been quite strange since last week, he knows something is wrong but just looks a wee bit confused, wee pet. He's been a lot more affectionate than usual, hardly left me alone at all!!!

I tried to catch up with everyone today on the iPhone, but the server was against me!! I promise to catch up soon. I'm off out to my mums again tonight. :)

Sorry to hear that things are still rough for you. It's funny how dogs seem to pick up on peoples moods.

some nice shots there Jonny, hats off to you for managing it, during a tough week :)

Cheers guys, will definitely be a week to look back on. Thankfully my mum is starting to come round a bit, still worried, but not as much. :)

Very atmospheric pics of the Wake Jonny, and the blurred drinking figure make the shot for me :)

Sorry mate, not been on lately, hope yous are getting through it ok.

Great new photos

Day 205. Dunluce Castle.

Quite a busy day with work. I tried a bit of self motivating retail therapy this morning. I bought a 77mm CPL, ND4, ND8 Grads and a holder. It didn't work. :( Decided to go for a drive to test them out, originally intending to try a sunset shot from the coast road. Ended up getting a bit distracted and ended up in Portrush at Dunluce Castle. It was light enough to see what I was doing, but the ND's stacked allowed a far longer shutter speed, quite pleased with the result for a first go!!!

Day 206 Eye Of The Spider. (Return Of The Silly Titles)

3755113798_7bf0cd42d5_b.jpg

Kit Used: Blu Tack, Extension Tubes, D40, 50mm 1.8 lens reversed. 52mm UV filter blu tacked onto extension tubes to allow easy removal/installation of 50mm lens.

Another day spent in the garden like someone with a screw loose. I must really buy a macro lens, not only will it be easier, but the results will be better.

I'm heading for dinner with all 3 grannys tonight. It's Granny Speer's birthday next week, so my mums decided that we are all going out for tea. Who am I to argue?? I've just had a catchup with everyone, I think? If I've missed you, I apologise, feel free to berate me senseless, I'll not be on until tonight and will be slightly tipsy....

I love the pics from the last 2 days. The colours in the sky on the castle picture are brilliant! The spider's great too (I like spider pictures, funnily enough!)

Spider is nice and the castle and sky is cool. Only criticism would be to have got down lower so more of the ruins were silhouetted against the fantastic sky.

Day 207. Panoramania.

Spent today on an explore around a few old sites, felt nice to get back and have a mooch. I feel my photography has came on in the last year, so was nice to go back with a bit of extra knowledge, doesn't mean the shots are any better though!!

"doesn't mean the shots are any better though" ? That looks pretty good to me. Nice panorama of the landscape =)

Looks good to me too. Another beautiful landscape there!

Could do with sitting somewhere like that for a few hours, looks so peaceful!

I was actually talking about the urbex sites we visited, my landscapes have always been terrible!! ;)

Liking that Panoramania mate, I must do one of these at somepoint ;)

Thanks Mate.
Nice shots - I particularly like the Panoramania shot. Did you use ICE to stitch it together or did you use something else?

Didn't use ICE, I don't like the fact that you have to convert to jpeg before using it, I was always getting a slightly different look to different parts of the picture. I actually suddenly realised (I was told) that CS3 does it as well. It's a lot better at it 2!!

Day 208. Portstewart Harbour.

3763244988_149506535f_b.jpg

I had a temptation to try another stiched shot today, I've even taken a 180 degree panorama in case the urge becomes too great!! It's nice to get back into the swing of things work wise, it definitely does occupy the mind. I've suddenly realised that I haven't photographed half of what I could have for my 365. I'm tempted to say that this is the start of harbour week, but not being sure where I'm going to be tomorrow has changed that!!

*WARNING* :geek: alert. I've suddenly realised that I process all my landscape shots with CS3. I use LR for everything else unless it requires a few layers. :geek:

Love that shot Jonny, great composition, reckon you could 'dodge' the rocks on the right a tad, to bring out a little more detail ;)

Looking forward to your shots this week ;)

BTW: I use Canon DPP and CS3 for everything. Use DPP for minor tweaks nd saving to 16-bit TIFF as CS3 Adobe Raw converter cannot read 5D2 files, no way I'm getting CS4 for that.

Cheers mate, I keep forgetting about the dodge tool.

Day 209. Don't Want To, But Must.

3766120389_dcf99d45f8_b.jpg

Really not a clue what picture to use for todays 365 shot. I was up extremely early leaving the wee bro to work, I'm talking 4 hours sleep and out of the house at 5. I made it to my favourite viewpoint of slemish just after sunrise. Hopefully get a better one tomorrow morning!!

Don't like this picture. Don't want to post it, but it's better than the other excuse for a picture. Was messing about with the ND's etc, don't like it. Horrible, but it'll have to do.

I intend to be a lot closer to Slemish tomorrow morning, don't like this picture. :(

Day 210. Central Sperrins.

3768861959_427364ff2a_b.jpg

Very busy day work wise, was dragged all over the camp. Think I drove about 300 miles today. In this country, that's a lot.

This was the usual, "Jonny's got far too distracted, and should really stop walking up the mountain, during working hours" shot. I tried setting a custom white balance for this shot, to bring out the blues a bit more, does it look unnatural?? I like this one!!

Edit: I see the dust bunnies.

More interesting landscapes Jonny, really liking your angles a little different on the last one, really like it (some 'really' blue sky is showing through)

:)

Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Dark blue might work, but it would have to be so dark it was indistinguisable from black  :D

Just tried it, it was a navy colour?? ;)

Cheers Julian, it's definitely my favourite type of photography, I'm making a real effort to find some different landscapes to shoot. :D
