JD's 365.

Ooo light box, was thinking of creating my own too at some point. Nice shot although it looks like the light was a tad harsh, just on the right edge of the D40 badge.

And also . . . was today the day you found out about your job?

It was my first try at this sort of thing, I found I had to use a narrow aperture to get the whole camera in focus. Think this was a 30sec exposure at f36?? It's basically straight from the camera. I'll have to have more of a play with it, but it's opened up a whole range of ideas I never thought I would have. The box cost me nothing so that can't be bad!! We heard that they aren't making a decision yet about redundancies, we will hear in about 2 months.

Nice - that looks like a good idea - I can even see my boys enjoying making that :)

Never mind the boys, I had great fun making it!!! :D Cheers. :)

Nice light box - funnily enough I was thinking of making one this weekend if I have time :)

Day 086 Conductivity.

Spent today adding more lights to the light box and have now set up a mini-studio in the spare room. Bern rang out of the blue and suggested going for an urbex to Inver bleachworks. (Again!) We found this wee fella and I just had to borrow it. I need to sort out the background as the one at the minute isn't great.

Conductivity: The quality of living matter responsible for the transmission of and progressive reaction to stimuli.

That looks great, love the way the light picks out the dirty surface too

I can't believe how easy it is to do. Alamy here I come!! I did give it a bit of a clean but I don't mind a bit of dirt now and then.:naughty:

I now have a 150w halogen floodlight both sides, and fill in light to the front from a bendy lamp contraption. It's now cost me a total of £15.

The light box photos are great. How did you white out the inside of the box? I have started "wallpapering" the inside but the joints are too sharp I think.

I didn't. If you look at the second picture from yesterday that's how I've done it. I would suggest a large bit of white card, as the a4 paper I use isn't the best.

Day 087 Another lazy Saturday.

Cleaned the house as usual, and spent the rest of the day drinking beer with a mate and watching the world go bye. Could have maybe put a bit more effort into it, it was a case of "That'll do!!" Right, away to drink more beer....

Hey have one for me, hope your having a nice relaxing evening too. BTW: That's one hell of a fence you got there, to keep you in or out? :naughty:

Can't fault that JD :D

Well you obviously had much better weather than us today. Have a beer for me.

Just catching up JD, I love the rose Shot :)

And....I'd like to see some of the pictures with both the lights for the lightbox now set up :)

What's that blue stuff in the sky? Always thought it was grey and wet over there!

Thanks Everyone, the head is very sore today, guts are killing me, but a good night had by all. Dell, will do a lightbox setup shot tonight.

you light box is bigger than my lightbox :( i need to make a new one as mine is falling to pieces

Day 088 Pipes To Nowhere.

Another good day, even though it was a completely off the cuff explore. Thanks to Pete for driving, I really wasn't in any fit state to be going anywhere. It's amazing how a wee dander round a few abandoned buildings soon sorts a hangover.

On another note, I'm starting to get to grips with the d90, finally. I found Live View very handy today, basically because I didn't want to do a lot of kneeling down in my alcoholic state. I'm also doing a lot less PP work, maybe it's the camera or maybe it's me, I'm not sure.

Light Box Steup for Dell.

That abandoned building looks great, crying out for HDR processing though ;) I think run down buildings would be my fav subject. I also clocked an abandoned cottage today, so will have to visit it for a 365 shot another day.

Cheers SM, I'm in quite a few groups on Flickr to do with the whole Urbex/abandoned building thing, and to be honest I see that much HDR there that I get a bit sick of looking at these types of shots done with it. I'll give it a go, but I normally rather do HDR from 3 RAWs than 1.

Yep very true, from a single raw there isnormally too much noise. But if I have tripod with me I always take 3 shots for HDR processing, I don't like the over the top HDR effect, but I find HDR processing essential for bringing out the shadow detail, basically showing the shot as I saw it.

I completely agree, especially if you've had to use a long exposure. I find the noise for long exposure single RAW HDR images to be quite severe. Noise Ninja is good, but not that good!! We'll see how this one turns out, I'm processing it this very second!

On another note, I'm starting to get to grips with the d90, finally.

Isn't it nice when that happens. Its slowly happening with the D700 after using Oly's for so long.

Finally sat down and read Ken Rockwells guide on the D700 last night and found it really enlightening (dont know if he does a similar thing for the D90 )

He did, but I didn't agree with much that he said. Stubborn Irishman syndrome. ;)

Day 089 Lonely Flower

Had a terrible day, the van broke down again but this time I thinks it terminal. 6th breakdown in 4 months, the AA man knew my name when he came to get me!! This was the only flower left in the garden, Sasha had tore out all the rest. I couldn't resist using it for my 365, in the lightbox naturally!! I should have large bits of white card sorted for tomorrow, the background is annoying me now.

Sorry to hear about your bad day, good to see your light box is getting well used, I really need to get myself a box this week.

Aww, that flower looks lonely. Misty is driving Sue mad at the moment as she is digging up bedding plants that she has only just planted. She also knocked an orchid off the mantlepiece at the weekend. Thing is, they only have to look at you and you have to forgive them.

My ex planted a load in the garden before we split up, Then Sasha promptly tore them all out as well. An omen?? :D
