Daily Jake's 365 Challenge

I've done one. It was the bride and groom, their 3 grown up kids, 3 or 4 friends.. and me. It was literally just a ceremony and done. They couldn't afford a photographer at all and didn't even know I was going to be there. Their daughter is my mum's friend and she asked me. I figured they're not paying and if I wasn't there, they wouldn't have photos at all... so I done it and really enjoyed it! The photos aren't professional but they are absolutely over the MOON and I received - completely unexpectedly - an expensive thank you gift because I'd refused to take any money.

Off the back of those photos, my cousin and a complete stranger have asked me to do theirs  I'd process the photos completely differently now if I were to do it over... I keep meaning to get the raw files out again.

What kit did you have one you did it Toni? :)

Day 80

80/365 by JRTurnerPhotography, on Flickr

I picked a daisy outside work this morning to use for my POTD. I liked this one, as it had the pink tips to the petals still! Now I've viewed it larger on Flickr, it's not actually as sharp as I'd like it too be :(

Canon EOS 40D|50mm f1.8

That's gorgeous Jake! Using paper background? I have plans to try similar tomorrow  Daisies are among my favourites so I was hoping to find one of those too!

I had my 500D and Canon 17-55 (now have the Tamron version and love it - sad I can't take it with me to the 5D!) and a borrowed 500D with my 50 1.8 on :)

Yeah I grabbed a file divider out of the cupboard to use ! I wish it was sharper :( I need a macro lens! This is a heavy crop, as the 50mm just doesn't focus very close!

You could always sell me your Tamron version ;) I would definitely be wanting to borrow a spare camera and lens, but I don't know anyone else who shoots Canon!

I never used the second body or the 50 1.8... heh...

I have plans to sell the Tamron! Just not sure when! Like for kid shoots etc, the zoom makes me worry about it a lot less... but I MUCH prefer shooting prime! But I'd prefer to do shoots like that with the 5D but that doesn't take the Tamron. Bahh!

I'm hoping to upgrade this year to a 5D3, so if I buy any lenses I'm getting AF ones, so I can keep them! I don't like prime much, maybe it will be better once I'm on FF and it's not so zoomed in!

I like this one Jake, very nice.

Thanks Sarah! :) I want to try again with a bigger flower!

I've always been a huge prime fan and don't think much of zooms.. primes help my composition hugely.

(I would love the 10-20mm for the 500D though haha... just cause of the epic portrait potential!)

I'm a massive landscape fan, so a wide angle is always a nice thing!

I like the flower, Jake, and although it's softer than you want, sometimes that looks OK in a photograph - I think it works well! :)

The flower does look a wee bit soft Jake. Perfect excuse to buy a new lens though!
You mentioned the 10-20, all the shots that I put up today were taken with th3 sigma one. So wide!

Thanks Sam! It can't be too bad as it's sitting at 264 on explore at the minute :)

After NYC next month, a new lens/body is definitely on the cards! It looks fine on my iphone and on the camera LCD, but where it's a heavy crop and both the flower and camera are hand held by my shakey hands it has gone a bit soft.
I really want a 10-20mm, but I want to go FF this year so wan't something that will be wide on there too! 17-40mm perhaps

Great shots Jake :)

Day 81

81/365 by JRTurnerPhotography, on Flickr

I quite liked the effect this had! It had gotten late, and I hadn't taken a shot, so I put the camera on the dash and started taking shots as I passed traffic lights. Not an easy thing to do while driving!

Day 82

82/365 by JRTurnerPhotography, on Flickr

This isn't the first time this has been done, and it definitely isn't the best, but I'm happy enough with it! Bit of dodgy photoshopping with the brush tool and my unsteady hand, but it's better than I expected!

Day 83

83/365 by JRTurnerPhotography, on Flickr

Sunday was not a good day to go to Marwell Zoo! It was freezing all day, and because of that none of the animals were coming out of their beds (not that I blame them!). I have never been this close to an Amur Leopard before, and I thought he was beautiful. Not my best photo of the day, but the one I wanted to share most. There are only around 35 of these gorgeous animals left in the wild, which I think is disgusting personally. Fingers crossed that the many protection groups out there can help the numbers to rise!

I do rather like 82! The zoo brrrrrr chilly but good shot

i love leopards and all the big cats :D Quite like the dashboard light one

This is great! ive just spent the last 2 hours looking at your pics. Its really cool to see you experiment and grow. Also i feel like i know you and poppy now :D lol

Thank you very much for taking the time to have a look through Nick! :) Feel free to add me on flickr, so you can keep track of my photos easier!
I'm sure there will be plenty more of us as the year goes on, we'll be practically family by then
I'm hoping to make this into a book once I'm done, so I can look back on it in years to come!

Nice catch-up, Jake....

I like the one in the car - the raindrops with that colour coming through adds interest for me, especially on the LHS where they come in further into the photo.

82 is nice and I see what you did there! To be nice & retro, a green one would work well!

83 - very nice coat that leopard has and I don't think I've seen one ..... As an aside, have you got the WWF app? Brilliant, I love it! If you don't have it, get it!!!!

84 - Swindon actually looks quite nice in that shot!:lol:

Thanks for all the comments Sam! I chose that shot of my 43 because of the green at the left! :)

I only had red apples, but I like the deep red, besides, it tasted nice

He was beautiful, although him and the snow leopard were both walking around in circles, my Mum thinks it's due to stress of being in captivity :( I haven't, I'll download it now! :D

The best Swindon has ever look if you ask me!

It is a bit sad to see the Leopard in captivity but it may be the only way to stop them going extinct. Im a fan of the big cats too, I was lucky enough to go on safari in kenya last year and see some in the wild.
I do like the traffic light shot too, dont get caught taking photos while driving though!

It is sad, especially as the enclosure isn't as big as I think he needs, hence the walking in circles stressed. I hope the numbers will rise again in the wild, like they have for the Amur Tiger! Only time will tell! I really really really want to go on safari! That would be a dream come true!
I had a friend in the car to assist if I needed it, most of it was dual carriageways that were empty so it wasn't too bad :)
