I am a classic case of that and I'm no alpha male.

The 'Stewart Lee on Top Gear' video on YouTube sums Clarkson up pretty well, plus he has the added advantage of being actually funny, unlike Clarkson.

The Sunday Times is reporting that Clarkson's comments where rehearsed and cleared by the BBC producers in advance of the programme airing. It's certainly not the first time that interviews on The One Show have caused controversy.


If anyone is still interested in the facts that is.

What amazes me is that there were 21000 complaints, are they seriously trying to tell us that 21000 people watch The One Show?

Or is it like the Ross/Brand thing where TWO people complained at the time and then 30000 jumped on the bandwagon?

Well, The Telegraph today reports that "22,000 people had voted on the Telegraph website saying Clarkson had not gone too far with his comments". I really couldn't care less. Storm in a teacup.
 
I'm in Oz at the moment, and I saw this on their main tv news yesterday - the fact that Jezza reckons all those going on strike ought to be shot...

...but they didn't put the quote in context either.

So who's being more sensationalist? Clarkson or the media that are reporting the story? Pot, kettle, black?
 
If you didn't see the program when it went out then you have no right to be offended. Getting offended later is not an option. I think there were only a few hundred complaints on the day it went out.

Mary Whitehouse was a prize hypocrite. She was always on about family values and yet she and her son weren't even on speaking terms. I don't think the son was even mentioned in the biopic that was on about her either.

The majority of people who complain are offended by someone else's offence and jump on the bandwagon.

Gervais can write some very clever and funny stuff, but he himself isn't that funny

Ghost Town - great film
Invention of Lying - great film
Cemetery Junction (written by Gervais and merchant) - great film
Extras - funny, but it is the actors who are funny in it (written by Gervais)
Idiot Abroad - Karl is genius
The Office - total carp
The dwarf program he has written at the moment - total carp.

Stewart Lee? Any redeeming features?
 
Ben Elton and Alexei Sayle's early stage work could qualify for that title as well!

I don't really find that funny either! So we have now established that Stewart Lee is a funnny as kittens with ebola and that he is also as funny as Topgear...

Ps. I have followed Stewart Lee for some time, from the Fist of Fun (with the equally as unfunny Richard Herring) and he has never floated my boat. He plays the uncomfortable silences poorly and quite frankly his jokes are not all that great. I understand he is sometimes called the comedian's comedian but perhaps they do this to make themselves feel better! ;)
 
I watched all of Stuart Lee's tv series. He's ok. He's not that funny. When it was Lee & Herring they were a lot better. Rob Newman has fared better and is genuinely interesting. The delivery style of Stuart Lee isn't as engaging really.

Alexei has done some great stuff. His novels are pretty good too.

Some Gervais stuff is funny. It's the dead pan nature of it. If you like things like 'Best in Show' then it is good. If you don't get it then it just seems far too much like a documentary that would be on some dodgy living channel.

Some of the best comedy I've seen lately has been from those mad French women on 'Women!'.

Not really. When reading your comment it isn't clear it is a joke, putting the smiley on says it's a joke but then leaves it up to the reader to try and interpret it, otherwise it just seems like you making an error.

You normally can tell if something is a joke by the tone in the voice or the facial expression.

For some reason you can't have a tone of typing on the internet

Watch his 41st Best Stand Up, even watch his take on Top Gear that lasts for 15 minutes. I know Clarkson has the comedic ability to compare the front of a car to some type of fish and hate the French and Germans or caravans, but Stewart Lee is well worth a watch too.
