Yes
And boy was she pretty.
I would have loved to have done a review, but I just held it in awe at its lovelyness...lol (Besides, it wasn't mine, so didn't really have time to have a play with all the features and take lots of photos).

Forgive the low quality phone cam shots
Here it is side by side with my 30D

And the same from the rear :

I did have a little play with it, taking a few test shots (I apologise to Carl for "Reducing your lovely specimen of camera to taking shots of my cat..." lol)

A couple of things I noticed over the 30D. Firstly, the shutter button. It's not a microswitch, there's no feel of a sudden 'click' of the button, It's more gradual and analogueish and spring loaded, you just gently squeeze. More like a snipers shutter button...lol

Also the shutter noise. Sounds much smoother and quieter than my 30D, and thats without even turning on the new "Silent shooting" mode...hehe
OK, these are serious comparisons of course. Just me waffling :D

The screen? Huge. The viewfinder? Didnt find it much bigger than the 30D TBH. Although the amount of extra info along the bottom and up the side ;) was excellent, from the standard exposure meter bar, it has metering mode icon, ISO, file type, number of file left for burst mode for that file type, shots left on card etc. All very handy.

How does it feel? Like a bloomin glove. As soon as I picked it up I said "You can instantly *feel* the amount of research that's gone into the ergonomics". while the finger rests on the shutter button, the second finger rests in its own little recess, while the last two rest on the grip.

Thats enough of me waffling now. Just like to say a little thankyou to Carl Ogden for bringing it round and letting me have a little play
Oh yes I would like one, but its an unfeasible purchase for me unfortunately (just at the moment anyway).

Finally, here's one of me holding a smug grin in, and it wasnt even my camera :D

Good job I had a wash before he came round. My wife was painting next doors step and I grabbed her bum, and in shock she turned round and gave me a dollop on my hair :p

Still would have suited me :D

Ppprrrr its only a Canon :p

"The man caresses the object of his desire, his eyes glazed with passion, his hands alight with tingling nerve endings as he touches every detail of the finely sculptured beast within....

.....then the wife walks in and smacks him over the head with a paint brush! Next time he will try a Nikon"

:p:D:D

Now you know why people buy Nikons! :D

im with you joe, :D:D:D [S1]we love nikon [/S1]

pfff, all that money and you don't even get a pop up flash lol  :p :D

Sounds like it's a gorgeous beast mate

It was. Ooooh it was. Tis Carl Ogdens beauty though, so I mustn't take away his grin......he couldn't smile wide enough :D

My D200 does all that, welcome to 2005 Marcel :D

Interesting that they have made the shot shoe unpainted. On my Mk II's, that the only place that wear shows. I wonder if that is why they've done it?

I just can't shake the feeling I've had for a while that I'd like working with a Nikon. I've got a week away shooting with a friend that does wildlife stuff for the BBC, Getty and the likes who uses nikon stuff. Great I thought, we can swap cameras for a bit and I'll get to spend some time away from the C and find out how Nikon stacks up.

Hmmmm, turns out he's taken the big hit, bailed out and gone Canon. Oh well.......... ;)

^^^ I have offered to let you use a proppa camera ;-)

The Mark IIIs viewfinder isn't much bigger than the 30Ds?

Shocked, I would of thought it was loads bigger.

You are a lucky guy Marcel. Many people have waited month to see one let alone take pictures with one..

Very nice camera I agree, I know Carl will get the best out of it..:)

Pssssst..:suspect:

Can I bring my toys round now so we can play..:woot:

I wanna see you hand holding a big 500mm F.4 IS....:naughty:

LOL You know where I live, bring it on :D

Battery is charging now :) clever people at Canon even provide a charger that will charge 2 batteries at once :D

It's not just the Mk III that Charger comes with, I got one a few weeks ago with my Mk II N

Blimey didnt realise the 2n charger did 2 as well :) very clever canon then :)

The one for the Mk II only charges one battery at a time. You can connect 2 but it charges one and then the other. It means you can go out and come back to 2 charged batteries though.

The charger has a refresh setting too where it completely discharges the battery before charging commences. It considerably lengthens the process (It can take up to 8 hours to discharge a fully charged battery) but helps eliminate the memory problem which can stop batteries charging fully.

The manual isn't very enlightening, but someone advised me to use the refresh setting for the first three charges (might have been Daz -not sure) and then not bother, but after the first three charges I just do a refresh charge about every third charge.

been away for a bit so excuse me if the answer is elsewhere, but I'm guessing the mkIII issues have been resolved then?

wicked! well if all works well I might plump for the mkIII rather than the mkII I had my eye on ;)
