I know what Nikon say - they also said a D100 - 200 were pro bodies. The test is go shoot a job that 20 - 30 other phtographers are on and count how many D300's you see - on average - none - D3 all the way now. ( or Canon)

I have a D300 and spend sleepless nights tying to make my mind up, do I buy a D3 or a D700 the pros and cons are to close, DAM NIKON.
The only limiting factor with the nikon system is the lenses, they really need a ... 100-400mm ... to compete with Canon ...
