Itching For A D300 Now...

I know what Nikon say - they also said a D100 - 200 were pro bodies. The test is go shoot a job that 20 - 30 other phtographers are on and count how many D300's you see - on average - none - D3 all the way now. ( or Canon)

Not Necessarily. If those 20-30 togs were shooting something a long way away requiring long zoom, they'd be using crop bodies, not 35mm D3s. And seeing as the D300 is currently the best Nikon crop body, the Nikon owners would be using those.

Edit : D300 is a fantastic Body. Go buy one now. Ignore everything your brain (and you bank) is telling you and go buy one

AWP ... are you really saying these pro's need all the help they can get :-) Fact is many people would rather have a smaller body and having done the 1D thing with Canon that includes me. Horses for courses.

One of the photographers on America's next top model was using a D200 last series for a shoot ! ;)

we all have different preferences - but at the end of the day it's the pics that matter :)
I still use my crop bodies on occasion too (D2Hs)

I have a D300 and spend sleepless nights tying to make my mind up, do I buy a D3 or a D700 the pros and cons are to close, DAM NIKON.

a D300 is still a consumer body - you have to handle a real pro body to feel the difference.

I've had a few bodies including a D3 and yes you're correct it is definitely better to handle but it's complete overkill as a consumer body, it's big and heavy and very expensive, stick some pro glass on it and you're upwards of 2kg.

I now have a D300 and for consumer use you can't beat it, I even prefer it over the D700 as the crop factor means a 200mm lens fills more of the frame.

The only limiting factor with the nikon system is the lenses, they really need a 24-105mm f/4 and a 100-400mm to compete with Canon, if they had those 2 lenses their sales would increase 10x

I really can't see why they don't make them

Please ... let's at least hope they can raise the bar higher than that

Equivalent of a 70-200 4.0 IS L and 400mm 5.6 L would be a start.

i've had a 100-400mm L and it was very good, they'd be mad to build a 400mm f/5.6 over a 100-400mm as the sales for the later would be 1000 to 1
