weekly It is what it is, Sirching for 52/2016 - 52 - Celebrate

For me the tree needs a bit more definition, but I'm really liking the sky and the rocks, maybe that is it, the tree suffers from such a good sky and foreground, nice one Chris :)
Thanks Dean, I know what you mean, it was windy and a long exposure so the tree was moving around a lot. I did consider a composite but doubt that I could have made a half decent job of masking round the tree/sky

Great sky and and ever greater texture the rocks. The tree does look a bit washed out, but that's fine with me.

fauna
ˈfɔːnə/

These Brachiopods are from the Carboniferous, about 300 million years ago

Oh, and the obligatory "second one for me" ;)

Having looked up Brachiopods I can't tell from that picture thats what they are so I will have to go with the dragonfly although I am not particularly keen on the shadow, nice colours and detail

Nice take on the theme Chris for No 1 I like the details and texture in the rock.

Love the colours of the dragon fly against the rro0ck in No2 I assume the shadow is curved due to the undulations in the rocks surface.

Hi Chris. I like the bright and beautiful dragonfly best ... although I did learn something I didn't previously know with the other !!

Just realised I didn't comment on your wonderful lone tree shot. I agree the tree is a little soft through wind movement but it's still such a striking and dramatic image with the rocks and wonderful movement in the sky  I think the green of the tree works just as well as stark branches would have done - just gives it a different feel.

An interesting take on the theme - I like that dragonfly though, very spectacular!

Thanks all for commenting. with the Brachiopods what is left after 300 million years is the shell which has been fossilised. and that is light grey against slightly darker grey so it was quite hard to bring out a decent level of contrast. I was actually out looking for butterflies yesterday but there were loads of those dragon flies and very few butterflies.

Shoe horn :p

Dragonfly for me too Chris.
Well captured :)

Hahaaa you had me there Chris, fist look and I thought 'What the f**k is he thinking' :D

Real clever idea, but still prefer your second image, well captured and great colours... great minds etc. hey (y)
Thanks Dean, I saw your dragonfly and nearly didn't bother posting this.

Nice sky in the lone shot, what filter do you use?
the dragonfly has some good detail nice take.

Thanks Walter, for the Lone shot I used an SRB photographic 10 stop

Is 300,000,000 years a bit shoehorny? I don't know. But I prefer the dragonfly.

Thanks David, brachiopods have been around for about 500,000,000 years so these are fairly young

Are Brachiopods animals? Anyway prefer the dragonfly shot but the background and strong shadow spoil it a bit.
Thanks Stan, they are hard shelled sea creatures a bit like mussels and clams

Hi Chris ....love the lone tree, perhaps a bit more detail in the tree itself, but it's still a super shot.

I like the idea of the fossil ....a fascinating piece of history, and of course a beautiful dragonfly is always a winner.
Thanks Susie.

Lone - Maybe not the shot you originally envisaged, but it's a good shot and spot on for the theme. The sky is ace.
Fauna - I'm going to go for the second shot as it's much easier to make out and is an exceptionally sharp shot of the little critter.

That is a brilliant take on the theme Chris. Well done.

Liking that Chris love the way the line snakes through the picture.

Over the bank holiday weekend I will be one of 200 + Mini/MINI owners taking part in charity run in North Devon where we all go out in a very big line were usually right at the front but a few years back we were at the back and being a marshall we had to drive get to the front at the regroup point it was then you realised how long the run is!!

I hope that wasn't a queue for the toilets or ice cream vendor :D

Blimey, that's some queue of traffic and certainly looks static to me.

Looks good to me

An unusual place to have traffic jam. Looks like they'll be static for a while.

Thanks all for the great comments, glad I didn't cock it up on this tablet on which I type like an old bloke with a tablet, otherwise I would give a fuller response :-)
