It has begun....and now it's ended....again **TP OFFICIAL WORLD CUP THREAD**

I think the idea of a UK team is interesting. How many non English players do you think would be in it?

I suppose there was little chance of getting a decent thread on the world cup, when even the mods refer to the supporters as knuckle draggers. Quite offensive to my wife and kids, let alone all the other intelligent law abiding peeps that follow the sport.

Agreed and something I noted back in post #9

I'd say Fletcher, craig gordon, Giggs if he came out of retirement, mcfadden, gareth bale, aaron ramsey

damn you've finally discovered that I am her in disguise!

Hi Joe, that would be really scary! ;)

...The point is, just because you dont like the game doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the media as much as it is, you have no issues with other sports being in the media so you have to lump it I'm afraid...

That's a fair point I guess... I suppose it's no different for those of us who hate the likes of Eastenders and Corrie too! :D (I probably just offended half the forum - including toonape's family) with that remark. :D

... As for being in south africa, unfortunately I have a job where I only get 2 weeks of holiday, a 10 month old daughter and a pregnant wife. As much as I would love to be there, its not as important to me as my family and work...

It's somewhere I'd love to be as well... Not necessarily for the football but it's certainly a country I'd love to visit. Maybe one day! :) I have friends out there and my godfather is from Rhodesia (still can't get used to calling it Zimbabwe).

It does get my goat though when people claim that unless you are actually at matches you cant be a real supporter. People like this should really get over themselves

I'm not suggesting that those who don't go to matches aren't real fans; it's more a case of not being able to understand the fascination when you can't get involved in the 'atmosphere'. I got dragged along to an FAW match between Aberystwyth and Port Talbot last (this?) season and even I got caught up in the atmosphere... I only went there to take some photos but got involved with yelling at the Port Talbot goalie who was a right ponce. He got hit on the head with a coin but if you'd seen the way he was rolling around on the ground, you'd swear he'd been clobbered by a concrete block! :cuckoo:

...As for fielding a national team, the english FA wanted to do this for the olympics in two years and guess what. Wales and Scotland said no, we dont want to be a part of it. Absolute shame as I'm sure the footballers themselves would have loved the chance to compete in the games. As it stands england are looking to go forward with a team because they want to actually field one rather than the selfish powers that be of said other nations.

I didn't know that the Scots and Welsh said no although it doesn't surprise me... I'm actually from Surrey by the way! :)

It's a shame really 'cos I honestly think it would be a crowd-puller. It would certainly put the 'united' in 'United Kingdom' for a change!

Thanks for replying in a decent fashion too... I think the person in the quote below needs to learn a little bit from you.

Cheers,
Si

I'll leave it for you sneerers to wallow in

You left this behind ---> :dummy: ;)

Shut the door quietly on the way out, some of us are trying to relax!

It was one mod and it was a joke. Are you really that easily offended?

Giggs, maybe a few years ago, say the last world cup. Are we assuming squad of 23? If so I couldn't see any of the others displacing an English counterpart.
Gareth bale at left back, maybe behind Cole, Bridge or Warnock. And when he has more experience.
Aaron Ramsey, 4 goals in 29 appearances this season, Id rather have Heskey.
Only one out of those would be Gordon, England are struggling for a keepers.

All in my opinion of course.

To be honest I don't mind football, I don't follow it so much but I do like to watch the games. The thing I hate is the minority of complete ****** supporters, who feel they have the be drunken violent thugs to enjoy it - puts me off ever caring about the sport.

I shall be watching the games with interest however :)

Thought France were pretty poor tonight.

Fletcher would deserve a place in for Garrick or Barry though. Easily compete with that position

RE: UK Team
The only players that would get into the team from outside England would be Fletcher, Ramsey, Bale and Gordon. Even then, they'd all be subs apart from Fletcher.

So whos taken up Asda's and Tesco's offer on there 3 Packs for £20. Need to be stocked up for the World Cup!!

Yep - 3 Slabs of TENNENTS for £20

It's not the best but It will be my standard baseline.

[sarcasm]Well the France game was a corker, wasn`t it?[/sarcasm]

Jeez......

Fair result, they were both as rubbish as each other!

Far more impressed with the RSA game tbh.

And another thing.

Who let in the Kazoo orchestra? Christ, it was like being chased by a swarm of bees.

I like my world cup like I like my women. Covered in bees!

Yep - The France game was Dull.

I've Ribery in my TP Fantasy Footie team and he let me down.

Here's hoping tomorrow is better.

I said I was staying out of this thread but unfortunately some of the behaviour has gone downhill.

This is a thread for those who wish to enjoy the World Cup and discuss the merits or otherwise of the various games, teams or players etc and the admin and moderators would like it to stay on topic.

It is not a thread for those wishing to bash the game or whinge about the tournament, if you don't like football or the World Cup and wish to make your feelings known please do it in this thread.

Please observe this simple rule and play nicely otherwise there may be some stricter enforcement. :bat: ;)

Thank you.

You carry on Simon, I'm sure you have many more insights to share.

Well said Sir!:D

England to win 3-0. Rooney, Lampard and J Cole

England to win 3-0. Rooney, Lampard and J Cole

Hope you're right.

I'm off up to Loch Tay for the day visiting family - praying I'll not be held up coming home for the match.

I'll go for a nervy 2:1 win.

Saw the Nike advert on the tv last weekend, full length version too! Very, very good so I thought I'd share it although you've probably seen it already. :D

Might be fun to see if we have someone who can predict the correct score tonight. (Before the game starts ... :p)

I will kick it off with ...

England 3 - 0 USA

I have gone with 4 - 0 to England on the Budweiser game site:shake:

Phew - that was cutting it fine

Think we are going to look very good in the group and then not so great when the knockout stage begins

Going for an improbable 5-1 win for England

AHHHHHHHHHH I HATE ITV!!!!!!!!!!! Watching on HD they played an advert just as we scored. Somebody needs shooting.

oops ..... looks like they'll be looking for another keeper .....:D

I think we should give up on football for the next few years and concentrate on medical cloning instead.

Half a dozen Rooney's and another half dozen Terry's should just about do it I think ...

Green wants shooting for that.

Lets find out who's worth their salt now.

1-1! If we cant beat the yanks, who can we beat!!!

Ho hum - looks as though we're in for another tough ride.

Whats the name of the guy who was suppose to win the game single handedly according to everyone before the match ....... Rooney was it?.Was he even on the pitch!!! because he definitely wasn't in the game .But that's JMO.... very poor show from England as a team .This is not a moan but a mere observation

Playing like they did tonight ......i'd be surprised

Hmmm. Solid in defence, created plenty of chances and conceded a freak goal. I think you are doing them a bit of a disservice.

Rooney played quite an integral role, I thought. Every time he got the ball they fouled him, giving away fee kicks. I have to say that I'm actually encouraged by what I saw tonight. You can't expect the finished product in the first game.

Green 3/10
Johnson 5/10
King 4/10
Terry 5/10
Cole 5/10
Lennon 6/10
Gerrard 6/10
Lampard 6/10
Milner 4/10
Heskey 4/10
Rooney 5/10

Wright-Phillips 6/10
Carragher 5/10
Crouch 4/10

Heskey was the best player on the pitch, he's worth 8 of any body's money, so I can't take any of your assessments seriously..

England didn't play great but they created enough to win by a mile, I suppose its just disappointing, but no reason to start talking complete rubbish..
