Is this dodgy? D700 on ebay

Does seem unusual, but he has good feedback, has the name in his photo, good english. Could be a genuine bargain. The only thing that is a "negative" to me is his feedback hasnt been used since January, so could be a hijacked account. However these usualy dont have such a detailed description.

Buy it and take a few big guys with you when you go to collect.

Mine came in a gold box - is the the D700 sold with 24-120/4 "kit lens" perhaps?

Also wondering if you are a sole trader and declared bankrupt would anything with an "asset value" such as this effectively belong to the official receiver?

Good english? Really?

For these items, being expensive as they are, we will happily accept:
Cash on collection (so the buyer can see what they have purchased), bankers drafts, cheques (need to clear before we can release item) or a direct bank transfer.
** The item can be collected from West Yorkshire, Leeds or East Midlands, Derby! **
We can also have the item shipped but this need to be arranged with us before end of auction.
Please do call us or contact us via eBay before you click buy it now so we can agree on the sale!

Any other payments please get in touch with us first by the ‘Ask seller a question’
I'd doubt English is the seller's first language, also.....

RRP: £3399 as of November 2010!
:suspect:

That's the phrase that makes it look dodgy to me, plus the fact that he has 2 of them. Mind you, there is another phrase which might actually be true: * FIND ONE CHEAPER * THIS IS A STEAL *

My previous background was in finance and a sole trader in dire straits is allowed to retain items which would allow him/her to earn a living. Gone are the days when they take everything off you and leave you unable to fend for yourself or your family.

Cheers

I imagine you are talking as in "tools of the trade". The OR might look suspiciously at a tool that remained sealed "as new/unused" in its box!

This line made me laugh - if its nicked... "* THIS IS A STEAL *"

Camera and lens in their own boxes packed inside the black box as shown - I've got one (not from that listing I hasten to add)

You can get one for £1999 delivered from a shop so £1575 delivered is not exactly the deal of the century, is it (with the risk that this is either stolen, or faulty, or a scam etc...)?

Sorry, but the english is decidedly suspicious...

I have been asked by a dear friend in need to list his items on eBay so that he may recuperate some money back to repay his debts. His business has struggled this year, which has declared him bankrupt, hence bargains to be bought!

Also look at the history everything is "private" so you don't get a link to any of the listings. There are plenty of "normal" looking D700 sales on ebay so it's not worth trying to save a few £ yet risk a lot.

Both his auctions only show the boxes and not the actual items which ring alarm bells for me

I suppose you could ask for images of the camera/lens complete with serial number so you can check it against the stolen list

For risking losing it all if stolen or having no warranty then yes, I would rather get a used one from a reputable seller or shop, but that's just me having got stung in the past ...

I agree. £400 is nice, but if/when I get a D700 it will be from a proper store.

That "Dear friend" bit smacks of the Nigerian connection

Yep had a few e-mails with "dear friend":D
