Is there a God?

It has everything to do with common sense. You say there is no point to commit murder. Well, in a society that didn't condone such an act, everyone would kill each other for multiple reasons. Land, money, oil... wait.. we do that now right?

Yes I know society condemns it, but that is all there is to it, there isn't some absolute moral that says killing is universally wrong. The only reason people don't kill people is because it would hinder themselves more than what they'd get out of it most of the time. As a society we no longer need to kill people (at least in england), because we can get food, water, etc without it. But in other countries people will kill people for the above if they need it. And "gangmembers" here might kill someone because they feel the need to or its gna be worse for them if they don't, like they'd kill them instead etc., and there bought up in an environment where "getting away" from the police is what you do.

Well, there should be!

well there would have to be a divine authority of some kind for that to be the case, or something higher.

I don't see why something has to be so black and white as evil and good anyway.

my morals basically come from society, if i do what benefits the people around me and society its probably going to benefit me in some way.

^^^^Well your dad would forgive me anyway wouldn't he?

Totaly, totally agree.

 Sorry, but how wrong you are. A 'simple' divorce will take months, and 'normal' divorce will take more than a year.

I seperated from my first wife nearly eight years ago now, and I'm still going through Court to this day, trying to reslove things :bat:

Jumbp Beef, if you had not got married, but had a child instead, you would still be connected to the lady now and for the foreseeable. I feel for you with the divorce, it can't be pleasant for anyone. All I was trying to show was that it is possible to have a "quickie" divorce, which means a marriage has less consequences than having a child, yet people find it easier to have a child these days.

And didn't "God" once play at Anfield???

People have, and do, just walk away from a partner and child and never look back: that's pretty damn quick too.

LOL. Waaay back in the Stone Age, if not before, people had to start laying down ground rules along the lines of....

"Look, this is no good, I kill one of your family - you kill one of mine. I bang your missus while she's tanning the mammoth skin, you come round and hump my old lady while she's pegging the washing out. Let's be sensible and ban this nonsense and try to get along, ...perhaps call it "The law'" ;)

Too right!!
I concur.

Morals may well be taught via society, but in-fact they're basic instincts of all animals survival skills.

Which is why for example, just like us, cats don't fight using much direct contact... all show and bluff... If they didn't have their own in built survival skills, morals if you like, we'd just have dead cats everywhere.
