Is the whole Forum selling their Iphones on the classifieds to get an Upgrade to the 6?

I'm sure plenty of Apple users are satisfied. I've maybe just been really unlucky. I invested into them as you can see from my earlier post, and one by one each device let me down. I'll still use the iPad once I get it back to life again [hopefully] - but not doing iPhones anymore.

To be fair you haven't invested. You've spent.
If you'd invested, you'd expect a return on that investment at some point, not to be chucking more money at them. :-)

Wow, how very pedantic :D

I see it as investing my money into their products, like say, you invest money into Canon or Nikon, you're dedicating your monies to their products in the hopes of continuing to do so. They get paid either way. Maybe investing is the wrong word? but who cares, we're just chit-chatting here. Actually, 'to be fair' - when you put it that way, I was going easy on them! I'm getting nothing back! so it's worse than I thought :P

My iPad has come back to life, but I had to reboot it, and it's currently downloading a back up. One 60mb update did this ...

My iPad has come back to life, but I had to reboot it, ...
I often find kicking a failed device twice, also quite satisfying.
Sometimes it'll work after that, sometimes it won't :D

Don't tempt me! :D

It seems fine now BUT ... the app store, when I click 'featured' - pops up a message asking if I'd like to change to the US store as it's apparently not available in the Irish one

Don't you just love technology?
:D

I swear I tell everyone I hate new tech because I get confuzzled, yet right here beside the laptop I have my iPad mini, my new Android phone and using all 3 :D

Nope, not at all, however the rush to buy the latest apple product because it's pretty and from apple is an interesting subject. It's not because it's the latest and best product as it's virtually a copy of the best phones from 2012 offered by other manufacturers. Apple are no longer innovating but playing catchup, but there plenty willing to part with significant amounts of money for a minor upgrade.

Apples insistence of not accepting so me internet standard formats, preferring their own proprietary ones can be annoying and their testing is appalling, it's almost as though they don't care as they know people will still rush to buy their items. Let's face it, it's not their first phone to suffer major issues.

Forced into upgrading iOS as apps etc won't work with old os software. Then the older hardware slows with the newer os.

Then there's the whole apple tax scandal.

I'm typing this on an ipad, I have an iPhone 4s but these will be the last apple products I buy.

This is something that annoys me also, I have got an old iphone and when that's knackered I will have a good look at what else is about!

You are a better man than me Gunga din

I have an android, it hates me!
it writes all sorts of crap in my texts :(

And it probably does 10x more than I will ever need or understand.

You can call it what you like but yes, investing was the wrong word :-P :-P

ok, 'wasted', I like that one better. I wasted a lot of money on their devices!

To date we have 1 useless iphone 4, 1 useless iphone 5, 1 useless ipad mini and one broken mac air - which is due a fix, but finding it's going to be very expensive. 3 other iPad minis in the house that are all ok, though as said, mine is acting up. And no, we do not use them as frisbies :D I look after my gear very well, and teach the kids to do same. Not much you can do about buttons giving in over time, or batteries dying and refusing to charge. Annoyingly, they all still look like new. The iphone 5 is probably worth a good few quid stil if I can sort it out, it's still with Three, yet to get it back off them.

I could have got an iPhone 6, but really, would you after that?

Err...no:lol:
Good luck though! !

Why don't you get apple to replace them. They replaced my sticky button out of warranty. I've also had two MacBook batteries replaced without apple care as I argued they should last longer. No quibbles and found it rather easy to deal with. Sometimes stuff breaks and the manufacturer will fix it :)

My partner was on to them about the mac, €700fix! yiiiiikes! trying to find somewhere that'll do it a lot cheaper, even if it means an inferior screen.

I'm notoriously bad at keeping receipts or proof of purchase of any kind outside of my camera gear unfortunately. I know I have them somewhere ... in a biscuit tin or something :D

if we're going to be pedantic (and we are) buying anything could be an 'investment' - okay buying technology would be a stupid investment as the value is likely to fall not rise, but technically buying any sort of goods can be an investment , no different to buying art or gold ... the 'return' comes when you sell it.

so no actually cagey was right the first time

I understand you detest the very air I breathe, but as an expert in Internet based research, you really should look up the definition of investment, as It is the very action or process of spending money for profit.

Yeah cos it's not like the premium android device ever has build issues

I'm going to root my Galaxy S2 and install Windows 95 so that I can confuse the hell out of hipsters.

What about investing time into something then?

3 days after the years warranty ran out on my iphone, a software upgrade borked it, it got stuck in a crash reboot loop. Took it to a guru bar who could do nothing, wouldn't do anything as it was out of warranty. O2 additional warranty didn't cover it as it wasn't 'broken'. Their definition is physical damage. It's how I ended up with the 4s rather than 4.

I don't detest the air you breath Ruth (talk about an overreaction to being disagreed with) - but even you can be wrong on occasion. As an educated person I don't need google to know that that is one definition of investment but not the only one. If you were correct every investment would have to be profitable and bad investment would be a non seqitur.

strictly speaking investment at root means to 'put into' - originally it meant saturating an area around a town with troops as in "the English forces slowly invested the area around Tours" , but as language evolved its normal use became money , but can also be used for time and pretty much as a synonym of spent.

It can also be used ironically as in " I believe I'm going to invest in a pint of ale" no one seriously believes getting off their face is an investment.

so long story short theres nothing wrong with saying I invested xyz in buying I devices

Under eu rules you have at least two years warranty. Naturally I don't know the details of your specifics but 1yr3 days and just a stuck software upgrade doesn't sound like something the apple care team would refuse. Was there no other accidental damage?

Phone was perfect, screen protector, in a case, take it out and it was immaculate. Apple guru said it was because I was on a PC, used it on his mac, couldn't reload the os. They said it was an O2 issue as I got it from them. O2 said it wasn't physically broken so wouldn't do anything, said it was an apple issue as it was software that broke it.

Me stuck in the middle just had to buy a new phone.

Bloody annoying, and TBH there really should be some kind of law against it!

Investment
is time, energy, or matter spent in the hope of future benefits actualized within a specified date or time frame

Sounds to me a purchase of any technology could be an investment on those terms

The battery on the Iphone 5 is pretty easy to change I have done it for a few of my friends. You can buy them fairly cheaply on the internet. I'm not saying that you shouldn't expect the battery to go at least for the length of your contract.

I have never really understood the whole rivalry between Apple and Android users. I have a HTC M8 android phone, which is great it does everything I need it to and more. I don't have anything against the Apple devices I would love a big 27" IMAC for photo editing but my budget dictates that I won't be getting one any time soon. I use android because it is what I am used to and comfortable with just like I use Canon instead of nikon because I'm used to it and I like the way my 40D feels in my hand.

Buying technology is a very personal choice what works for me probably wouldn't appeal to others.

Just my 2p's worth.

Yeah i don't get the rivalry either. The Apple products are great, when they work! But I found it just as easy to jump to an Android device this time around on contract. Hey, it's finally making use of my dead G+ account! :D

The M8 is pretty slick, loving it. But I am also glad I got my iPad on the go too. I've got apps and games on there that you can't get for Android.

Best of both worlds

I don't understand why people who have an iPhone always refer to their "iPhone" and not their "phone" despite having done it myself when I had a 3GS.

That was my one and only Apple product - I couldn't get on with iTunes and when I uninstalled it, it took all my music with it so I'm not exactly in a rush to reinstall it. Must get around to ripping those CDs again one day.

As for my next phone, I'm seriously thinking about rooting my S2 and installing CyanogenMod. The battery can be replaced and a SIM-only deal will easily cater for what I use the phone for while saving me a considerable sum over the next couple of years that I'd be tied into a new contract if I replaced it.

I think there is already. I thought it is a case of follow the contract. Thus O2 supplied it and O2 is responsible if goodwill from others don't work.

Perhaps there is I honestly don't know,
It just seems that each one will "blame the other"
I guess in a hope that you get p***ed off and go away.
Like a lot seem to TBH.

A lot of people are doing sim only and buying cheap Chinese smart phones, that are apparently just as good as the top brands.

You can get some cracking sim only deals from time to time.

I had one on 3 earlier this year, 2000 minutes, 5000 texts, unlimited data including unlimited tethering (the main reason i went for this deal) for £18 per month.

PS you really need to backup.

Ah no sir, sorry but you buy the phone now and your mobile provider provides the connection methos and other services. Clever that they aren't now responsible for the expensive handsets, so once the one year warranty period expires...

As I found out to my cost.

On the bright side, at the time CarPhone Warehouse were buying old 4's, provided not smashed for £160

It's ok, screens good, but I went for a bespoke PC with several hard drives so I could get best performance and storage

My deal at the moment is £11.50 a month, 250Gb data, 600 mins, 600 texts, perfect for me as if I use more data I'll just pay it, but mostly theres wireless everywhere. Then because I have an iPhone I pay a £5 premium on top of that for the privilege of owning an Apple product, so I pay an additional £60 a year to apple just to use one of their products.

One of the reasons I'm looking at a Windows phone as my next replacement. Not sure how long that'll be but I'm on IOS 7 at the moment. As soon as the apps stop working again because they require 8 then that'll be the time it goes.

My Android works phone links into the car so much better. It actually reads the text message received and displays them on the screen. I can't do that with my iphone. Surprised me when that happened.

Awesome ... when they don't break down. Been hearing many a story last few days from people who've had iPhones fail, just as mine did.
