Does anyone else get a real buzz when opening up the box with a new camera in it? My new toy arrived yesterday and I was a boy again, opening his Xmas presents. :D

you will need to tell us what it is to make us envious.

I deliberately didn't say what it was. It's the Nikon D810 kit with the 24-120mm f4 lens. Not sure about keeping the lens as I have the 18-35mm which is a range that suits me for landscapes and I have a 70-300mm for those occasions when I want to get in close.

Yup, but it doesn't happen very often. That or a new guitar pedal. :)

I would have recommend you that body… (congratulations)
but maybe no that lens… Have a good time! :D

Sadly it rarely happens for me :(

I bought the D800E new when it just came out, with the 24-70 2.8, the 50mm 1.8 and the 70-200 VRII 2.8 - dang that was a good time. Opening those boxes was glorious. I wish I had that kind of money now!

It's a box with a shiny new tool in it.

Enjoy!

I'm looking at lenses at the moment myself but I need to get paid again first :).

I've filled my pedal board so all spare money can go on camera gear :)

A pedalboard is more of a revolving door, though mine is (mostly) static these days (That Pedal Show has made me start experimenting with overdrives in a most unnecessary manner!).

I spend hours/days/weeks in bed with my new toy and the manual pdf open on my laptop, with '... for Dummies' and various other camera related sites open in other tabs. I have the odd chair and ornament strategically placed for shooting at and getting a feel for focal length, dof etc whilst running though the menus and finding where everything is. Not the most fun you can have in bed but it comes a close second. :D

I must admit, I too enjoy the process of learning all the functions of a new camera. I don't buy new very often, I guess if I did, it wouldn't be as much fun.

Me too though with my 6th d3300 it all became a bit deja vu but i still got a buzz

Thanks Terry, I will give it a good workout before I decide. It seems to get mixed reviews, but then again what doesn't on the wonderful, World Wide Web? :D
We've started to get some autumn colour up here at last, if the predicted storm doesn't strip all the leaves prematurely, I will get out with it.

Sort of :D but of course the thing doesn't have to be new, it can be a nice old lens that's just new to me :D

I have a busy, stressful and often upsetting life and the odd little treat like selecting, receiving and using an old £20 lens gives a welcome relief and a touch of simple innocent happiness :D

You're right of course, but there is use that little bit of magic, at least for me, with a new camera. It's normally the culmination of months of saving! Lol

Have you ever been waiting ages to be able to buy a camera or lens then when it finally arrives put it on a shelf for a few days to let the excitement build up more?

Yes, got a new 80D a few months ago and got that feeling

I know it's a little sad but I would would really rather have one great item every year or two than all the relatively minor Xmas and birthday bits that usually end up unused

No, but I sometimes wait until the Mrs isn't looking to open the box :D

Is cost related to excitement?

Probably not for me. I recently got a Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 which I suppose is a mid priced lens and I was just as excited to get the last thing I bought which was an old Minolta 55mm f1.7 which was a fraction of the cost.

I'm lucky, my wife is VERY understanding and we always agree large outlays. I don't think that cost is necessarily linked to excitement, personally, although I suppose for most of us, a lot of scrimping and saving goes into a high value item, so there is perhaps a greater sense of satisfaction.

You really need to see a psychiatrist!

Err….

I had more buzz opening the Fuji X-Pro 1 than my Canon 5DIV. When I got my 5D IV I opened it, put a strap on it and put it in my case along with my other gear. I think I did put a lens and took a photo….but I know what it does is not much different toy 5D3 and I also know the greatest thing about it I won't know until I use it in anger so the excitement of getting is not the box opening but the files it gives.

However, I see the Fuji cameras in a different light, I find them fun to look at, fun cameras so more excitement.

Nor me ,even a battery can excite me lol
