iphone or not to iphone...

Ignore the last four words in your title - but seriously, they're amazing, especially now that the 3Gs is out!

I had the first one, have the second one and will get the third...... nothing comes close :)

I'm on my second iPhone Now having had one since late december 07 & now onto the 3GS, get one & you'll never EVER go back!!! They're amazing!

I'd get one. I'm posting from my iPod touch wishing
It was an iPhone Lol.

ok, I think i'll get it, just need to wait until the 16gb 3Gs is out.

What cool photography things can you do on them?

If you're not a heavy PDA user and like Apple products then get one, you'll not regret it (aside possibly from the cost).

If you're a heavy PDA user you'll regret it, like many of it's rivals it falls down big time in this area, but then there are not that many options out there in this catagory (this is the camp I sit in).

If you're not bothered by Apple products, but like the iPod Touch, get the latter to replace your MP3 player as it costs a lot less, then get an alternate phone for a lot less money. The iPhone interface is superb, but it's functionality is average, it's phone technology (as opposed to the interface) is dated and not that well implemented, and if you're an audiophile (I'm not) you'll hate the sound quality (actually you'll find the same with all iPods post Gen 3 (or was 4 the last one with a real audio output interface as opposed to a SW one).

I suspect from the way your wrote your question you'll fall in to category A, in which case you'll get the iPhone and be very happy with it.

Step 1> Buy one

Step 2> It's no exaggeration to say it will change your life - embrace it!

Step 3> Avoid being sad at parties by constantly checking mail, forums, RSS feeds, playing another round of your current favorite game or to just plainly show off - people who don't have an iphone don't understand!!!

Step 4> Charge the batteries! It's not that the battery performance is weak, it's just that you use it for so many different things than just a phone would it doesn't last too long.

I have been considering getting one to link it to my ical, using the me.com cloud. Does anyone use this and does it work

I'm on me.com. Like it a lot. It's much better now the idisk is available on the iphone. It means you can access your files that are stored in the cloud from the iphone. You can email people links from the phone as well, so they can download your files directly.

Only buy a Palm Pre if you don't mind the handset sending data packets back to Palm about where you are and what you are doing (including your usage of any third party apps you may have loaded on the phone)!

The iPhone is the only way to go, but be warned, it starts a slippery slope.

I used to be very anti-Apple, but succumbed to the iPhone and now have an iMac and MacBook Pro as well!

As for not being able to get hold of a 16Gb 3Gs, you'll need to wait for Apple to build some more by the sounds of it. The latest order from China for 5 million handsets hasn't helped stock levels!

Seriously, just buy one (when you can find one of course). You won't regret it.

It's Apple, it is rubbish

Honest, not very good at all :)

Really really poor.....

Ow go on then, the internet is slow but at least you have it !

The email is great.

Ok ok its dead good really.

Go in Monday lunchtime & they'll probably have new stock (or call & ask when they're expecting some in) I have a 16gig 3GS & it's wonderful, even if I did have to wait a little longer!
Try carphone warehouse too as they stock them :)

I have an iPhone on our companies contract, couldn't be without it. The integration with my Macs is great, keeping in sync. I just wish the 3G coverage was better. The iPhone will be upgraded to the 3GS when our contract comes up for renewal in 5 months.

I was always a Nokia fan, tried other phones but always went back to the Nokia's as nothing could match them in my opinion.

Being a bit of an Apple fan boy when the iPhone was released i couldn't wait to get my hands on one and luckily for me a mate was off to NY so he brought me one back. To me it's a no brainer, i couldn't live without mine.

You think that Apple don't do this?? If they remove an app from the app store, it removes it from your phone as well.....

wouldnt be without my iphone and mobileme. My home(mac), work(pc) and on the go(iphone) are always in perfect sync.

Ive never owned a better phone, and the only better phone i will own is the next iphone....

No it doesn't.

I've still got 2 free wifi scanning apps that were removed from the app store sat in iTunes, and one's still on my phone.

Even NetShare the original tethering app that got pulled never got deleted from peoples itunes, when pulled it just becomes no longer available so if you delete it from your itunes, you can't get it back.

hmm, ive been thinking and now im not sure.
My current contract is great 600mins, 1200 texts, free internet for £20 a month. Its a sim only monthly contract so maybe I should look for a decent cheap alternative and keep my current contract.

Maybe something like the LG viewty?

I do all that... with my Touch HD.;) None of that is unique to the iPhone (in fact it was around years before it).

Although partly true the iPhone does have one of the worst batteries of the current crop of "smart" phones. Most HTC phones for example last for a couple of days with use of games/wifi/music/internet etc, whereas iPhones seem to have trouble lasting a day (due to the tiny battery Apple insist on inserting).

The general consensus is good UI (although better than new android phones?) but not brilliant hardware and features (for the Gs, the G and original would be "bad hardware and features").

Although the iPhone is the most well known phone amongst the general public there are plenty of other phones out there that do as good or better job than it (for example if you mostly want mobile internet then you would be a fool to get anything other than a large screened (touch pro2, diamond2, HD) WM device) so if you want a good phone then have a look at all the alternatives, althernatively if you want an iPhone just because it's an iPhone then just get it, you will never be persuaded otherwise.:p

God no, not the Viewty, it's terrible!

Who are you with already? Maybe worth looking around for a phone you want (that the network are offering) and ringing them up (going to retentions) to see if you can get a good deal? Bearing in mind O2 don't budge with iPhone tariffs, and although other networks are getting the iPhone 3g the 3gs is really the only iPhone worth considering.

Im with 02 rolling contract sim only.

Ive had a look around at the contract phones and they suggested the LG viewty Smart bit it was £30 a month for 600mins and 500txts and free net. Might as well pay £5 more and get an iphone.

Ahh the new Viewty, no idea how good that is, that's an 18 month contract right? Aren't the iPhone contracts 2 years for that amount and price?

Also I assume the phone is free? If not push them to make it free (threaten to cancel) and if you want more texts and mins see if you can get that too.

I had the original 3g model.

I took it back within the 14 day return period as it was a great device , no doubt about that, but I am a very heavy user and found the battery did not last me a full day out and about so was no use to me.

Not sure if the new model battery is any better.

I will add that the other day while in phone shop I noticed that there was a case for the Iphone will a built in additional battery, tempted me as I am due for a new phone in a few weeks. :)

yeah it was free.
I can just buy the LG viewty for about £60 off ebay and use that, why is that not a good idea, the reviews seem good.
