iPhone 3G - Who else got one?

I am really surprised no-one has mentioned the wonders of v2.0 and MobileMe ... ... this is really going to make business life easier ... for me at least ... :D ... not to mention the Apps button and the games that use the iPhone's accelerometer ... :suspect: ... they are simply awesome ... ;) ... that is if you need something to do between business calls, arranging meetings, taking notes, updating your calendar and blog whilst adding images to your web gallery and texting & e-mailing everyone on your contact list ... just because you can ... ... all whilst knowing precisely where you are, where you have been and where you are going ... :geek: ... have I missed much ... :cuckoo:

Forget the iphone this is ONLY one that will do it all and ALL the players are going to have it except O2.

I am sorry to say that I think you are entirely missing the point Tiler ... ... not to mention the boat ... :naughty:

:p

when will i be able to buy one legally to use on T Mobile? Someone wake me up when i can. o2 aint getting a single bean out of me since they stole £20 off mrs matt for 'not using her phone' when in fact she had been. Theiving motherfunsters.

is o2 contract with apple perminant?

Has anyone managed to update a 2G phone up to 2.0?

Itunes is fobbing me off big time

how'd you mean? its already v2.0

you mean when you connect it to itunes for the first time and it says it cant connect to the store?
all you can do is click OK, then click on one of your music folders, then click back on your iphone and go again.
Mine worked on about the 45th try
the problem is i got my phone round about the same time all the americans got back from the apple store :)

Yes DF ... ;) ... did it this afternoon with no trouble at all ... ... and also managed to update to MobileMe from .Mac too ... :D ... although it has been painfully slow at everything ever since ... :suspect:

Hardly surprising I suppose given the demand for 3G's and setting them up and all ...

My software on my antique 2G iphone is 1.1.4 and I want to bring it up the todays 2.0 release, but itunes 7.7 says 1.1.4 is the latest release.

I'm getting the feeling like they've restricted the upgrade path until all the demand has leveled.

typical....first I can't get a 3G and then I can't get the updated software.

Anyone lend me a cat ? :bang:

my bad! i read that you had a 3G phone not a 2G phone.. sorry about that.
must learn to stop skimming peoples posts!

Looks like the update is working again, it's just under a 100mb into the download

All updated to 2.0 now :)

I'll search out a 3G tomorrow too

I reckon both Apple and O2 completely under-estimated demand for both the 3G and the upgrade tov2.0 yesterday ... :suspect: .. caused all sorts of download and other problems and didn't do either of them any favours ...

Glad you are now sorted though DF and good luck with the 3G search ... :) ... are you going with MobileMe too ...

:p

I probably will Rog,

It makes sense on soooo many levels :)

No on the Iphone, although it i did have a look at one today, but i opted to a N95 couldnt get on with the touch screen of it, plus the contract price was above what i wanted to pay.

:'(:'(:'(:'(:'(

at least mine is safe here with me,

5 shops in Chester town center are officialy i
iPhone 3g free areas.

Staff in the 2 O2 shops didn't know when they'll get more and said to check the website for more info :(

question for other iPhone users ...... Have you managed to make flash work ?

That's good then....... I thought it was just me :D

I wonder if it'll get support now that the sdk has launched.

I wouldn't count on it. Apparently it'll drain the battery life something stupid. TBH I can't think of any Flash sites I would want to browse on the iPhone.

it'd be handy for some of the animated sections of some websites,

Someone linked to the will it bend website and the video needs flash :D

i work with PDS's, Iphones etc all day every day setting them up - dont see why people want the iphone personally. im happy with my simple cheap yet fully working sony ericsson

As a freelance photographer its great to get email on the go wherever I am. Oh sure I could have that on my k800i but the interface is horrible. The k800i designed for dialing numbers more than anything. The iPhone has been designed with the internet in mind. Like on Monday. I was driving about all over the place from meetings to shops getting supplies. All the while my email was pushed to the phone and when something came in I could check it out and reply in an easy way. I didn't have to type on a fiddly keyboard or drive all the way home to find that I had to go all the way back. Its one device instead of 2. I've got my favourite tunes on there for when I'm out and about. I've got my portfolio on it too to wow people on the street. If I don't have an image on there I can get it from my website. It fits in my pocket better than my k800i too. GPS for those times when I just can't find the building I'm looking for. The odd game for when I'm bored waiting for something. I quite enjoyed playing Bomberman earlier in the dentists. Its got a fantastic interface. Its just a modern phone. Everything else seems so old with their 9 digit keypads and tiny screens. Its freedom from the desk in a way that the laptop can't provide.

But of course if you're not me or one of the other people who bought it for their own personal reasons then you won't see why we wanted one :p

Must admit i did consider the iphone, for many of the reasons mentioned. But i stuck to the n95 as i didnt like the touch screen, nor the waiting time. Having the GPS on the n95 is great and is used most days, saves me having to carry a satnav and setting up particularly as i have a car for personal use, and a company van too.

the one thing that put me buying an iphone originally is that i thought it would be too common.
so its pretty good that a lot of people dont want one.

i dont know about you guys, but i've had a lot of mobile phones in my time.. they nearly always are below par. on the smarter phones the processors can never keep up with the OS or software.
Windows Mobile 5 was terrible.. then i upgraded it to WM 6 and they hadnt fixed any bugs and just changed the interface colours!
The iphone is by a long long way the best phone i've ever had.

how fast is the 3g on yours....i would not say its that quick ....all the hype is that it was fast...

is it just mine thats slow

another thing...does the sim card ahve anything to do with it...i.e do you have to have a "3g sim"

because mine came with a "3g sim" and i put that b****r in and nothing happened...put my old one in that i have had for years and she worked straight away...

im on contract and have been with 02 for donkeys...they never said to keep my old sim or put this new one in...i presumed since they sent a new one that i had to put that in

it def needs to be a 3G sim, but the sims that were in the 2G iphone were 3G sims so you should be OK.

So, long as you have a symbol next to the signal strength that says 3G then you should be on a 3G network

E is EDGE

Is there a setting that turns the 3G on?
I still haven't managed to track one down.

Getting a bit annoyed with bugs in V2.0 software though :(

The screen doesn't always rotate is the phone hasn't been used for a while

inputting text if the screen is zoomed in makes the screen go nuts

inputting text can be laggy....especially passwords

and the camera seems to take an age to come on now

I've suffered this since the 2.0 software and looking around the net shows other owners of 2 and 3G iphones have the same issue and apple are already working on an update.

I can't see why Apple Stores are not doing the upgrades

Its not as if they can't as they use the O2 system to activate the phones.
