weekly inView’s ( aka Scott) 52 thread 2022 week 45 Snappers Choice

B/W suits the tree shot with the imposing sky.
Hole shot is original and a much better subject than a donut.

The B&W shot is a lot darker posted than on my screen, need to sort out hosting somewhere so I can show what was shot properly ..... not really worth it with this shot though :p Really wanted a Polo shot for hole but again no macro lens anyhoo lol

Trees - I really like the graduating increase in the size of the trees along with drama in the sky. For me some more space at the top (right) and a crop at the bottom would take it up a notch.

Hole - A different take on the theme but still works. It's a bit tight at the right and I think the composition would work better with the pick guard (I had to google the name) being in the image.

Both nice shots Scott. I love the trees shot, and I think it works well in B&W and the contrast in the overall shot, but especially the sky is good.
The guitar shot may be deceptively simple, but it's very effective and the tight crop and focus on the inside of the guitar rather than the outside works well.

Both are good shots, you captured the moody sky very well and I like how trees are positioned to the side.

Many thanks Stuart, will look at the crop on the images taking on board what you have suggested. Brilliant suggestions and thanks for taking the time.

Thanks Simon, I really wanted more from the sky but sometimes what you get is what you get, will take a walk up another day and see if I can out what I wanted.
Glad you mentioned focus as I wasn’t sure about what I should have focused on, I always tend to shoot a shallow DOF, and looks like I missed focus lol

Many thanks Simon, I have never been afraid of space in a pic and positioning subject way off centre……. Still not sure this is always a good thing though lol.

I think that you've done an admirable job for your trees shot Scott, the composition is sound and the processing is good.
I like how your chosen to focus through the hole to the back of the guitar, makes for an interesting image.

Far too kind, thank you

Two good shots... your composition is spot on. Possibly a tad over processed for me but it does work so that's just my 'umble opinion :-)
I like the focus point on the guitar... works well.

Ha ha! I considered a packet of polos too :)... and an f hole on a semi acoustic guitar, but didn't think of this!
I like that you've focused on the label through the hole rather than the hole itself. Oasis once featured my acoustic (well a similar one) in their Wonderwall video showing the label - it was an Antoria, and I'd never seen anyone else with one.

I like your landscape shot. You've got a good moody sky and I like the composition with the negative space on the left. I think it could be interesting with a long exposure - on a still day perhaps? Or maybe a windy day might prove interesting too.

Had absolute rubbish weather so never thought I would get a chance of anything remotely sunrise or sunset so when chilling on the couch this eve imagine my surprise when I saw blue sky and with 10 minutes before sunset I thought ok lets see if I can grab a quick shot, off I ran camera bag in hand ....... run up a hill to a local landmark only to find the sun obscured by clouds and no "sunset" would be seen really. But undeterred and frankly with no time, grabbed the camera from the bag, left the long lens on ...... no time to change...... and took a few shots to shoot the colour more than anything.

Any excuse to shoot the new camera I spose , ah well ......next time

The colour you've captured is lovely and the composition with clouds and rocks works.

The colour of the sky is fabulous and the rocks in the foreground add interest. I don't think it matters that the sun is behind the clouds. Well done for getting up there quick.

That absolutely works. The colours and subdued light in the foreground work well and the rocks give a lovely central focus.

Thanks Bebop, keep trying to imagine if I had more than a minute and an actual sunset lol

Thanks Simon, had wondered if I had made the foreground too subdued, never even had a chance to do bracketed shots lol

It does fill the bill Scott, and the colour is great.

Week 19 actually saw me sportless, and for a cycling photographer that's a minor miracle, so I waited until yesterday to try out another grass roots cycling sport as well as try out new kit ( I need to find a host for pics as uploading here kills the sharpness, believe me these are tack sharp)

Cycle Speedway wasn't really on my radar, I have shot regular speedway in the past but never this. Fun sport that I will try again, selection of a few random pics that I need to decide on which to use for the week but thinking 4th or 1st.

Anyhoo, thinking cap on for week 20

I think you picked the right one for the main thread but all are very good, with us photographers or me we always want our images tack sharp. For me I'd say they are sharp enough but we can be our own worst critique sometimes.
Thanks Dave, yeh we are our own worst critics that’s for sure. Appreciate the comment :)

Great set Scott, you definitely chose the right one. I like the look of concentration on the rider's face in shot #1.

Many thanks Darkslinger, yeh it was the look of concentration on the face that made me think of the first image.
Nice set of images. I don't even know such a sport exists. Looks like a fun sport too.
haha imagine my surprise as well, quite a rabid support by looks of it too.

Well uninspired so will place this as a marker at the moment, have a few ideas but not really got an opportunity to get out and take them so man cave pic of my number 1 @ the 12th fret for parallel will do for now

OK so been out and about with the camera today and trying to catch back up.

Firstly a reshoot for week 20 parallel, not gonna lie I did not feel comfortable shooting this at this level crossing so it was a one shot and walk away.... just in case LOL

Week 21 Metal & Monochrome Tech

This was my 3rd attempt, I really wanted to find a scrap merchant with cars crushed into cubes but instead ........ the kelpies ......... not much difference really. The weather has defo taken a turn for the worse so I shot for highlights and lifted shadows on the kelpies themselves before turning it monochrome. There is blue in highlights and shadows so it (barely) qualifies. Wee bit of tidying as power lines etc removed as I bloody hate em. Really should have shot this at night or dusk but so little time at the moment I do what I can.

Week 22 (national) Treasure

Deliberately wanted a different angle of the iconic Forth Rail bridge and it not really what I wanted as again the weather wasn't playing, workmen quarter etc but it has given me an idea to return when I can to get the shot I wanted. First time I have shot from tother side of the water so to speak.

I really like your bridge shot. Great colours and moody sky and I like the viewpoint you’ve chosen.

The Kelpies fit the bill perfectly, and I really like the parallel shot. I can understand that needed to be a quick shot, but you wouldn’t know it.

Far too kind but appreciate the comments :) One thing we get is moody skies lol

Firstly all great shots Scott in my opinion.
Parallel - a little dark but that plays into the moodiness of the shot
Metal - always like to see shots of the Kelpies, I'd one day like to see them in person.
Treasure - really like this shot. Not sure what conditions you're waiting for but I think the clouds make a dramatic backdrop

Agree on first shot being too dark, may well up the exposure a bit on this, thanks for that.
if your ever doing to see the Kelpies, gimme a shou, be good to meet members of the forum.
not sure what I think ideal conditions would be, possibly tide out, slightly less cloud cover or equally more dramatic cloud cover but less wind that was almost blowing me off my feet lol….. let’s be honest Scotland doesn’t do sunny weather so no point in asking for that. Be more like a sunset/sunrise shot me thinks.
Again thanks for the comments mate, means a lot

A nice set of catch up. The sky in your rail shot looks great - makes the shot. I like the perspective on the bridge shot too.

Another catch up fro me starting with Solid

Struggled with this one.... a lot more than I should have frankly. So a few options

Anyhoo.... Im actually up to date.

Still loving being part of this, and loving looking at others shots.

What a great set of images Scott. I think my favourites are #2 and #4 of the bridge (aqueduct?) and your head-on shot of the peloton.

Really liked the "P for Peloton", absolutely captured the moment.

For me, the iron would be the choice for solid, great textures to work with.
