weekly inView’s ( aka Scott) 52 thread 2022 week 45 Snappers Choice

I rather like #5 but it doesn't fit the tech bill.. of the ICM shots I'm leaning towards #3 (no pun intended :) )

Heavy: I concur with @Darkslinger. Last best for heavy, but 1st if you have to tick the ICM box.

Alley: I immediately wondered if this was Edinburgh. I really like the reflections and the flash of red, and the viewpoint. Very nice.

Week 8 is here, and as has been mentioned you can realistically post anything as without light there is no picture.....just saying ;)
But, as I am frankly useless at landscapes, I took it literal and headed up to the local woods to see if I could find light streaming through the trees, I never got there at the best time so was a tad of a make do approach and the only place I saw the perfect light had a rubbish path right through the picture that is distracting but I took the pic and it may well win out for the week 8 pic.
Tother pic was again same approach looking for light coming through the trees and hoping for it to land on a foreground item.

Once again not happy with end results but still loving the premise of getting out with a shot in mind........ If only I could execute lol

If you had to do ICM, I agree with Peter, #1 works best for me but I also agree with David, the last one is the best for "heavy"...
Changed to pic one now after some steerage from all :)
First one for me Scott, I think because you can clearly make out the subject but the ICM and subsequent lines add something a bit surreal to it all.
Thanks Simon, I rather wish I didn't have to do it ICM is one to be forgotten about lol
Last for me - no ICM but a great theme tick.
Thanks Oy, defo fits the heavy bill
As you said not the best subject for ICM, last is best for theme, that must have gone down with a heavy thump.
But if no one was there, did it make a sound??? ;)

Eventually went with no1, I suppose we can make out its a tree .....almost anyhoo :D

Many thanks Bebop, agree with y'all on this now. And thanks for the alley comment, need to go back and revisit these wee alleyways I think

LOL, you're running into what we all probably run into, some shots that might fit the bill, time ticking down and the need to just post something...anything...

I think your shot meets the expectations of the challenge even if it's not necessarily what you wanted.

I thought of a woodland steaming shot myself but I know how hard it is to be in the right place at the right time.
Anyway, events conspired to keep me at home.
First one is the one IMO, nice beams shooting through the trees.

Works for me :)

Haha story of my life time ticking, just do something. Just wished I had found another location with that light that had a better foreground and less obtrusive path was all. Genuinely enjoying the challenge though.

full on respect for landscape photographers that go back to get the perfect shot……. Be there at the exact time they need to be etc etc. Thanks for the comment.
I think that works well. Might not be your perfect shot, but it fits the theme admirably
Don’t think I have ever had the perfect shot haha, thanks for the comment and hope I can get closer
Works for me :)
Thanks Oy, glad you weren’t put off ( too much) by the middle pathway.

I really mean this, it’s always great that people take the time to comment on these, it does mean a lot.

I think you've got two decent images there and the path doesn't distract for me. I find in woodland it can sometimes be good to go for a low aperture and try to isolate individual elements.

Very Nice light in your 1st photo, colours are natural and no distraction from the path, its all part of the scene.

I think your chosen shot works well for the theme. The shadows give you nice leading lines to the sun - of course :) Lovely light!

Alley - the reflections from the wet surface are great and the inclusion of a figure gives you somewhere to look towards

Heavy - the ICM on the first makes me think that the Hulk has lobbed the tree trunk and it's travelling fast horizontally, it's an interesting image

Light - the light on the main image is fantastic and really draws me in

Different opinions, I quite like the path leading across the scene.
Photography is a funny ole game isn’t it, thanks Alan

Trying to not do my normal f2.8 for everything lol, never done much(read any) landscape type shots so I have lots to learn. I’m lucky I have these woods literally on my door step so should explore more.

it was the light that caught my eye too, just hope I did it justice. Many thanks

many thanks, I was lucky to have wandered past just at the right time to catch the light, as I said above I just hope that I did it justice.

Thanks for that Stuart, love the hulk comment, hadn’t thought of that but when you see it in the flesh it does look a bit like that :)

That’s a nice woodland shot Scott and works nicely for the theme.

Another week another sob story, this time with a Covid isolation enforcement.
Only just allowed out so a quick trip into local town centre with one thing in mind had to change to plan Z as my original idea wasn't gonna work ( and frankly either did my plan Z lol)

So Damp and reflections ticked off with a wee bit light trails added for fun, and a hope to feel a bit more normal soon

Wk9-1.jpg

That’s a good one.
Meets the challenge well on both counts.

It was obviously a long enough shutter to capture the light trail, was it handheld? I'm assuming if it was some body/lens stabilisation was needed.

Oh no! I wonder what comes after plan Z? I'm glad to hear you are allowed out now.

Really nice reflections on a very damp looking night. The light trails are a nice bonus. Two ticks in the box

Hope you feel better Scott. Plan Zv.2.0 seems to have worked.

I like that one, damp and reflections, some nice colours as well.

Covid must be bad your way, they haven't taken the xmas decs down yet.

Playing Catch up a bit so we have a few weeks worth of pics, life has definitely got in the way.

So week 10 saw me return to the abandoned house with a treasure trove of endless pics you can take of this place, couldn't really decide on a composition or in fact fix on an idea

Wk10-1.jpg

Wk10-2.jpg

Took these and once more not as planned nor executed as planned but such an interesting place that I will continue to revisit.

Week 11, with technology all around I actually found this difficult. My initial idea was a circuit board but didn't want to dismantle anything. A New AV amp arrived and once installed I didn't want to move it around to show the rear connections so instead I thought of a product shot that shouts tech.

Wk11-1.jpg

Super simple, I use it every time I process pics, nothing done at all apart from the crop.

Week 12 Discarded

This is what I thought of immediately, socially discarded. I really wanted to take a portrait shot of a homeless but they get a tad aggressive when you approach them so decided on this simple shot with no one paying this chap any heed. And yes we did speak and give hime some money on this day.

Wk12-1.jpg

Week 13 Flora

Not gonna lie Im still considering a reshoot of this and using a product shot of Flora but we will see. Wondering around Edinburgh I was looking at the flowers on show and this is the only one that took my interest

Wk13-1.jpg

So up to date again........ but for how long ;)

Many thanks

it was a 2 sec exposure so tripod req in this case.
Nicely done.
Thanks Simon

im all about plan z and beyond lol

back to normal now many thanks

lmao haha
I like it, that certainly works for me.
cheers boots

I haven't come from the main thread, so I'm not certain which were your final choice, but...

Window - a great dilapidated building. No. 1 ticks the box best for me as you are looking through it. The B&W works well. Well exposed to get the interior too.

Technology - really like the simplicity of this shot. Not easy I imagine to get the light just right so you can see the mouse against the background.

Discarded - a sad sight, and on theme. The couple facing away from him are particularly poignant. Again a good choice for B&W.

Flora - ticks the box, and you managed to get some blue sky too.

Well done on catching up.

I'm tempted to copy and paste Bebop's post as it reflects my feelings exactly.
A good set of ideas well executed.

Nice set Scott. All great shots.(y)
Thanks Simon

Thanks Bebop for those nice comment, the blue sky in Scotland wasn’t even photoshoppe, it was however cold as a result lol

appreciate the comments Peter

All great shots Scott.
Through the window - I think that I would have gone for the second shot but I liked both
Technology - Fits the theme, clean and minimal
Discarded - A sad commentary on society, good street shot
Flora - Love the depth of field

Always seem to be playing catch up now....... oh dear oh dear.

So unusual for me was the angle of this boat, as in directly overhead. Walked across the FRB with my wife and dog and as always took the camera, by chance this wee sailboat went under the bridge so I'm cramming this into unusual (angle)

Wk14-1.jpg

And snappers choice was taken today before the official launch of the new theme so again I'm levering this in lol. Team pursuit qualifying at the UCI track nations cup.

Wk15-1.jpg

Still to get my tree pic and will have to wait till Sunday I fear as I'm shooting the UCI event all weekend.

I love the unusual angle. Well spotted. Also I'm really liking the composition and depth of field in your velodrome shot. Is lighting a challenge in this situation?

Massive challenge is lack of light, high ISO, very fast moving small subject and trying to find a WB that fits…….. on top of that find a composition and try focus. Sports photography is soo easy :p Thanks again

I thought it might be. I was shooting football last night at ISO 12800 so I understand the problem. It does look challenging, but you cracked it.

Good images Scott, the perspective of the yacht from the FRB makes for an interesting image

Both shots are really good, the over head shot of the boat, from the FRB (what ever that is) looks good and the for the cyclists, the angle works well.

Pete

Returned up to where the challenge started this week for trees, wanted a solitary tree and not a forest, ended up with this........ yeh a landscape photographer I aint lol.

Really want to re shoot this with more movement in the sky so a really long exposure and consider my composition more.

wk16-1.jpg

Hole, so many options and wanted to keep it clean and frankly easy. I had hoped we would have a donut or even a Polo in the house but alas not so with this looking at me every single day in life it was an easy shot.

wk17-1.jpg

And with that I'm back up to date for 4 days lol..... I wonder if I can keep it up
