Internet speed test...

I don't have too much faith in speedtest.net



I'm on broadband L with Virgin which i think is 10meg. i usually get 40meg solid for downloads. Speedtest thinks I do better that that but i don't :)

its not the most accurate in the world no, we've got 4x 8mb ADSL bonded together at work (glue and gaffa tape) and speedtest only shows a single 8mb.
 
Not so impressed, this is on my upto 8 meg line, my router shows as syncing at 7.9 meg so i dont know why these figures are so low?

There are some really interesting results here!

The college set-ups have amazing upload speeds! id love a pipeline like that! id be a one man Warez campaign!! lol...

Usually we get between 8-12mb/s down (Virgin 20mb package) but lately it's been playing up. It was fine yesterday, but today it's gone so slow that websites are timing out and I can't even upload a photo to Flickr :bang:
 
I pay for up to 6mb, and get this joke

Amazingly I did the same test using my '3' dongle, and got 2.04 down & 0.9 up

On my Vodofone dongle.. im not in a 3G area..:gag:

Im downloading something now and its at 50kbps, I mean come on thats far to slow for my liking.

Just done a new test and I got,

Your 50kbps will be due to latency on the server you are downloading from and also if the server you download from has a slow connection then you can only utilise what the server can handle.

I am on 10MB broadband but the best download speed I have ever had is 1mbs.
You will very rarely get a download to work at the same speed as what your provider offers.
