We bought my eldest son a new Macbook Pro as a joint birthday/graduation present which he received on Saturday. Less than 24 hours later he managed to spill a whole glass of beer over it! After pouring the beer out of it he (foolishly probably) tried powering it up... but it was dead.

He only had the standard one year limited warranty with no accidental damage cover or valid insurance so was expecting an expensive repair. This morning, he took it to the Apple store and after examining it the guy asked him if he wanted the good news or the bad news... Opting for the bad news first, they told him that the repair would probably be in the region of £900 (I'm guessing fried motherboard, marinated hard drive perhaps, goodness knows what!) The good news? Well as it was only 24 hours old, as a gesture of goodwill, they would do the full repair back to good as new condition... for FREE!!

Don't know about the rest of you but I'm pretty impressed, customer care like that seems too much of a rarity these days. Two years ago my son was an Apple hater but after this morning's experience he says he's a convert for life.

Amazing - very lucky too!!!

As you say, great customer service.

Hmmmm you can tell Steve Jobs is out of the business at the moment :)

Serious thats one of the best pieces of customer service ever, had you paid for it on credit card I know mine gives me 30 days accidental damage cover on purchases, you dont need it but worth knowing.

Blimey that was unlucky to trash it within 24hours, celebrating said graduation?

Good show from Apple though.

I can't fault them either - big thumbs up to them, had similar less serious problems like that too!

Whilst we're all singing the praises of apple, number one son there is sneaking under the thick ear equaliser.
You definitely deserve to get your money back, props to apple for that:thumbs:
I'd take the laptop off him and tell him to spill as much beer as he wants on this......abacus..;)

There usually do this with end of line models. Done it with my classic ipod last year. I dislike Apple for computers as im a gamer, but im allways impressed with there customer service.

In the past I've sent an iPod classic with a faulty headphone jack back and they returned it with a big arrow pointing to a tiny mark on the screen claiming that it was water damaged and void the warranty. Well it had never had water contact and that wouldn't effect the headphone jack! This was a common excuse for them in fact.

On the other hand, I went with a friend to the apple store after they had dropped and shattered their iPhone 4. They found someone who was off duty for guru-ing and he just took her name and address and gave her a new iPhone 4 right there and then without any questions about the warranty or anything!

;) Well - we do pay for something I guess..... I'm a mac user!

Although I opted not to buy an iPhone last week when I upgraded - I was shocked at how good android is now. I remember when android was a clunky system and Apple was king - and I hadn't tried an android since then. Now I have a Sony Xperia Arc and I find it more impressive than an iPhone, not to mention that it was free.

And apps are much cheaper on the Android market....!

Shouldnt be suprized if they did indeed do that!

this is amazing...i just cant belive its true ! but amazing service if it is :) ive found john lewis and apple the best 2 companies to deal with if i could afford it , john lewis , apple and M&S would be the only places i shop!

wow fair play apple, great service

i must say big fan of their products

Must agree on that one, had good experiences with both.

Apple have straight swapped an iPhone for me in the past.

i can't believe it's happening in UK! i've been here for over 7 years now, and must say that most of the companies' customer service departments i've been dealing (Virgin, BT to name the worst) were absolute pain!

I've always been a fan of Apple products (since i had my first iPhone) but mostly because i never had any problems with them.

Kudos to Apple!

It' funny because I've found their store near me to be a real mixed bag. After sales and just general advice was good, but I found the sales staff very pushy! I support Apple clients/services in my job, so knew exactly what I wanted when purchasing my MB Pro, yet it took an hour to purchase it after 3 staff tried to convince me to buy extra software, protection, etc. I never usually resort to bragging but had to tell them about my Apple certifications and support experience simply to justify why I didn't want the extras, but they had never heard of the certificates!

Sorry to out a downer on the thread, but I guess it goes to show how just a few people in one store can put me off going back there, which is a shame really as from everyone elses experience it sounds great.
