I'm on Amazon! (Now with background as to how I got published)

Congratulations, will they be putting an image on? I would imagine it would affect sales if there's no image of the book cover.

Congrats Xarra, I bet you are pleased... :) Nice one.

Well done. Do you know what, I'm going to order a copy - to be honest, I think as photographers we can all support each other in many different ways and having a copy would be a great way of recognising the authors achievement.

Congratulations!

Out of interest, did you approach the publisher direct? What was the process for getting the book produced? If you didn't mind doing a little write up, I'm sure many people would be interested.

Well, the background is that I did a few photos in a BBC public project (you know, one of those that they ask the public to submit pics to) then I took part in Solo PhotoBook Month (SoFoBoMo.org) using the My Coventry project as an idea for my book.

I then got it printed via Blurb just for my own records. I then showed it around at work (you know, proud parent) and got told I should get it published.

I looked up some publishers that dealt with local history/interest and emailed them with a very sketchy proposal. Note: This is probably not the best way to do it! A few showed interest, but I couldn't go with one as they wanted it too small for me, and after some negotiations on the size with my final publisher, we agreed on the size and I got a contract.

I then modified some photos, added them, removed some... The majority are from the 30 day period though!

I also had to add captions - which has been the BIGGEST headache ever. I'm going through the proofs atm. Red pen. Everywhere. :P Plus I had the very good luck to get a historian to go through them and correct the 101 historical errors!

I sent them the pictures, the text and a PDF of my layout. They then put it back together, and sent me the proofs. I'm lucky that they've used my own layout, the title I wanted, and the cover/back images I suggested. This is apparently unusual for books!

Also, the photos were mostly taken in May/June this year - I got the contract in very early August... They want the book out for Christmas... A fiction book can take 2 years, so I'm amazed at the speed!

Thank you Big Dog!

Inspirational stuff and well done to you

after reading the background to your story , i'm really impressed

very well done

:clap::clap::clap:

Thanks for that info. Very interesting.

Well done you!

That's bordering on inspirational - many congratulations from a togger who can't even get his wife to display pictures in his own home that he's taken ;)

I'm ordering a copy too :D

thats ace , well done, looks like it was a lot of hard work but i bet the feeling will be awesome seeing your book in print as a published copy. Thats great! youll have to update us all on how popular it is.

Really does inspire as others have mentioned. Good luck!

I'm sure you posted a link to the Blurb photobook pictures a while ago. If the finished article is as good, it should be spot on.

Well done getting recognised and printed for the masses :clap:

Excellent stuff and well done. Just goes to show what you can do if you try.

Andy

Great work! I have a friend who has several books published and sold on Amazon and tells me that there's no other feeling like it when you're holding a physical copy of a body of work that you spent time and effort putting together.

Proofs have been approved (poor designer...) and it's gone to print!

I'm overjoyed that the designer just went along with pretty much whatever I asked too. :D

3-4 weeks and I'll have it in my sticky little hands... Eep!

Congratulations

Well done on getting the book published. Hope it sells well.
