Well, the background is that I did a few photos in a BBC public project (you know, one of those that they ask the public to submit pics to) then I took part in Solo PhotoBook Month (SoFoBoMo.org) using the My Coventry project as an idea for my book.
I then got it printed via Blurb just for my own records. I then showed it around at work (you know, proud parent) and got told I should get it published.
I looked up some publishers that dealt with local history/interest and emailed them with a very sketchy proposal. Note: This is probably not the best way to do it! A few showed interest, but I couldn't go with one as they wanted it too small for me, and after some negotiations on the size with my final publisher, we agreed on the size and I got a contract.
I then modified some photos, added them, removed some... The majority are from the 30 day period though!
I also had to add captions - which has been the BIGGEST headache ever. I'm going through the proofs atm. Red pen. Everywhere.

Plus I had the very good luck to get a historian to go through them and correct the 101 historical errors!
I sent them the pictures, the text and a PDF of my layout. They then put it back together, and sent me the proofs. I'm lucky that they've used my own layout, the title I wanted, and the cover/back images I suggested. This is apparently unusual for books!
Also, the photos were mostly taken in May/June this year - I got the contract in very early August... They want the book out for Christmas... A fiction book can take 2 years, so I'm amazed at the speed!
Thank you Big Dog!
