That's it...I've liked in Leeds most of my life and I've been to Scarborough hundreds of times, but never Whitby

I might even stop over :naughty:

Tad excited to say the least....

Thank you....:D

there's quite a few photo opportunities in whitby but it's a little different to the busstle of scarborough in summer

i go to scarbourough quite a lot in the summer with the family for the odd day out when the weathers good i always take a camera for the usual family snapshots and the occasional scenery photo but having a family of mainly young girls there wasn't the same attraction in whitby although photo wise i would say it's a better place

The good thing is it's all fairly compact and you can walk almost everywhere in the old part in a day.
Walking out along the (west) pier is worthwhile, the older east side has the best little alleys and cottages - and the Abbey and steps.
There's a really good view from the 'new' road bridge but can't stop in a car there usually.

Cheers. I'm after tranquil....:D

I live in Scarborough and know Whitby very well, shout up if there is anything I can do to help. Enjoy your trip.

Cheers, Mark. I'm looking for a long day and might stop over. I'd rather just kip in my car. Can you recommend anywhere safe??

Enjoy!! Hope the weather is good. Remember have some fish and chips :)

+ waffles, sausages, doh-nuts, rocks and crab :gag:

Thanks for the heads up...I'll be parking up and on foot. If you know the town, anywhere cheap for all day/evening parking??

I'm there on Sunday - save some Fish and Chips for me! If you have a look on Google Maps, there are some large car parks behind the station. One of them is for a supermarket, but if I recall, the other ones are open - but I'm sorry I don't know about cost. Be prepared to queue if you are heading to the Magpie - or so I'm told.

Hope the weather holds.

It never rains in Whitby said the landlady when we booked 3 days in July. It did and for 2 days solid! Loved it around the Abbey an Pier. Quite a few goths walking around to.

I've only been to whitby once and thought it was ok, the piers seemed a lot smaller than they looked in photos, but its a must do east and west piers, I've often thought of sleeping in my car but at 6ft not a comfortable prospect ! lol

Best place is West Cliff - park under the "no overnight camping" signs:lol:

Magpie Cafe for the fish and chips !! Best fish and chips I've ever had !!

Over-rated, tourists only :p
It's been surprisingly busy down there with the good weather this week.

Iff u can get the tides right (going out) dawn at robin hoods bay is brilliant

Can anyone suggest a good overnight stopover in the Whitby area? TOH and I were thinking about a weekend trip later in the year.

White.

Oh no I'm not - had a phone call to say the coach company has gone into liquidation, and we have lost our fares. (Sorry for the drivers though as they were a great bunch).

Sounds as if I shall be around home on Sunday.

Regards,

White

Iff u like the quiet side some good places st the bottom of robin hoods bay you have to leave your car at the top and walk down once you've droped off your bags three nice pubs we stopped at the bay hotel last time u can't get any closer to the sea and the food is spot on

Marcel and I "slept" in his Focus overnight at Saltburn (just up from Whitby) when spending two days in the area last summer. It was not comfy! good to be there for sunrise though :D

Thanks Stephen, I'll bear RHB in mind (haven't been there since a schooltrip some time last century)..

I've spent loads of time in Whitby over the years. If you are looking at staying over, the parents of a good friend of mine own a bed and breakfast there. Send me a pm if you want the details and I'll find them for you.

The Boathouse B&B at the bottom of Robin Hoods Bay.Stayed there a couple of times and going again in April.Nice place to stay. Also gives you the chance to get some photos early in the day before the crowds appear.

The Bay Hotel is just a short stagger across the road
