I work for a major telecommunications company developing future strategies. Work from home officially but that really means that much of my time is spent on the East Coast Mainline into London or on the A14.

Photography as been a hobby since I first picked up my Dad's old Brownie nearly 30 years ago. I've had an SLR for almost 25 years and been shooting digital for about the last 5 years. I don't get to take as many pictures as I'd like - most of my stuff is taken in Africa, where I try to spend about a month a year.

Im a vet, spend most of my day repairing dogs and cats broken bones and spines, wish there were more hours in the day to fit some decent snapping time in tho :)

A very tough job but must be potentially one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.

Excellent occupation Shaun and very rewarding I'll bet..

I just handed my notice in but was an Export Customer Service Co-Ordinator for a very large shipping company. Give you hint, one of our beasts sank off the Cornish coast not so long ago!

Reason for handing notice in: moving to Canada November 26th. Leaving work November 16th. CANT WAIT BABY!

I work in business development and consultancy for a large IT services organisation in the Utilities sector. All very thrilling, as you might imagine.

Who do you work for Paul - I'm curious now :)

Since the link to this thread has been posted in one of mine, I may as well add my story.

I am currently working in Security, which I do enjoy.
Hours can be tedious at times, but the pay usually reflects this.
I used to do the work part time, but now do as much work as possible.

Before this, I was working in an Accountants for just over a year, whilst training to become fully qualified. The theory and learning I enjoyed, but the work was not for me. I found it very boring.

Now I am weighing up my future. Ideas include Interior Design, Quantity Surveying and maybe Estate Agency. Ideally I would have enough money to get into property development.

I purchased my first camera, let alone DSLR last week, and I am looking forward to pursuing Photography as a hobby!

Craig.

part time gambler, intelligence agent, or it manager
well maybe 2 out of 3

photography a hobby for now...

... and it was through talking to you servicing my bike that got me on here!

Me? I run a traffic management company so if you want any road cones or road closures I'm ya man!

Fancy closing every road i have to use near work so i can't go in :D

I'm a head chef in a country pub/hotel.

I work for a University in Liverpool and I'm primarily involved in Teaching, Learning and Quality Enhancement which translates to;

I tell people what to do, ignore things I'm told to do and try to prevent or correct the mistakes of others ;)

I've been interested in photography for about 2 years, having started taking pictures on my camera phone, upgrading to a Canon S3 IS and now I have a Canon 400D.

Although photography is only I hobby I would love to make it a career someday, I'm just not sure the best way to go about it. Photography, along with cooking, gardening and wine  are the things that get me through life without having to kill anyone :D

Im a poor student and part time supervisor in one of our Student Union shops :) currently studying Drama and Sociology...have always been fan of photography but only this year become more obsessive about it! Just need the money for a decent camera now...hehe :p

Well this is my day

I get up at 11, 12 sometimes. I then stagger around with my eyes bearly open to try and find the toliet and then something to eat (Breakfast) after.

Then i come into my room, move my mouse to bring my computer out of sleep-mode, then i start surfing some sites. Look at the normal sites i go to, Come on the forum etc.

Spend about three hours doing this heehee

Then when i am finished that, i think where i can go to take some photographys. But normally i am too tired to do this.

With all this, I need to fit all my course work in the middle of that. So my day is full-up with things.

BUT i still get a chance to get some photos in  :D

Twice indeed!

The bike is a red Kevin and I'm ER-5 ... no hang on that's not right

I think the question for me is, what don't I do

By offical trade i'm a Cisco engineer - specialist network consultant/engineer for the Finance sector bank networks working for a large Telecoms company.

That's the boring day job over (which funds the other job!).

I run a printing company (http://www.togsprint.com) and a picture hosting / selling company for 'togs (http://www.togsfriend.co.uk).

Thankfully I have a couple of staff now who are assisting me in the day-to-day running of these, but the long term plan (by June next year) is to go full time into the Photography / Printing game.

I've covered several weddings - all very successful and my clients were chuffed to bits. I've been taking pics in the equine industry for a couple of years also - regularly have my pictures in the magazines and the occassional front cover too

Photography has dominated my life now for 2 years, and as stressful as times may have been i've always pulled through with it.

PS - long live Nikon

Im a MOLE...

Well i spend most of my day underground.... As a Tube Driver... :woot:

And i HATE it i HATE it i HATE it!!!! :bang::bang::bang::bang:

I run the accountancy side of the family business.

I spend all day dreaming of being an indigenous tribesman in a rain forest living off the land.

LeeP - Don't tell me that's you in BT Operate...!!!

I 'work' for an accountancy firm by day. Lots of mindless paper-shuffling.

Photography is a hobby at the moment. I'm starting to get some paid jobs put my way by some contacts I have in the music industry, so I'm hoping that I'm going to be able to build on that.

Fingers crossed but I'm definitely not counting any chickens!

I'm a BT Engineer, but at the moment i'm off for upto 6 months after having surgery on my knee. I did photography at college, but never got into it too much after that. Was offered a camera a few months ago for a great price, and have been loving it ever since:)

I work in an office but hate it!! Horses are my main passion, but I want to do more photography at weekends as I have always loved other peoples pics, but I got very frustrated not being able to get really nice shots myself. I'll never get to be a pro, but will be happy to improve and enjoy myself, and at least with digital I can delete the total rubbish and try to see where I went wrong with the rest of them without wasting rolls and rolls of film and processing money!!

I'm a Reviewing Officer for an Independent Fostering Agency and also do independent work in terms of assessing children / families situations for the Court. The job has its ups and downs but the reviewing of foster carers is usually very humbling when I hear about the great work that most they are doing with children that they are caring for. I took up photography a few years ago and found it very relaxing. It was the only thing that could take my mind off work. Began selling my prints for charity and have raised a few pounds this past 18 months for children's charities.

I am a HND Technical Support student, spent the last 2 years at college and working my way up to Uni next year.

Use to work as a part time baker then left school to become full time but boss let me down so took up a job at the local Co-op for a year before going to college.

Photography is a hobby for me and I mainly photograph rally cars as rallying is my main hobby and has been since I can remember.

Would really love to work for a world rally team like whitewash though.

Photgraphy Is a hobby for me.

Having Aspergus makes It hard for me to find a job, so I pretty much cycle to places on my own taking snaps when I'm In the mood.

C.S.I.

Need I say more?

I currently work for a well known computer games company doing technical support for customers, although 99% of my day is spent on the internet, like now!

Have been in the games industry for the last 6 years, started off as a tester at Sega, then moved to Microsoft and then to SCI (Eidos) where i was a lead tester, when SCi bought out Eidos they offered me the choice of staying but no payrise or promotion for 2 years or voluntary redundancy, i took the redundancy and spent 3 months doing voluntary work at local animal shelters until the money ran out!

Now im bored of 9-6 office jobs and want to do photography full time..

Work - IT technician at Notts Trent Uni.

Play - DJ/music journo/Peak District scrambler/live music/burlesque hanger-on
