Yes
asked the girl at the set of Pitt's new film, World War Z in Glasgow. She went on to explain how she had arrived too late to get a picture herself, but as she is a great fan of his, could I email her one of mine?

So she gets out her card with her email address on it, and emblazoned across the top is "Daily Mail".......

Did you hand her one of yours "Do I look like an idiot"? or your twin "I don't work for nothing"!!:)

Class.. Flash i look forward to seeing your picture.. how much are you going to charge them?

Have you any idea what pics of B&J are fetching? :)

3K + if you market them right - and that's per image - tell that to the ams who give them away!!!

I wasn't planning to give her the pic, the card was out before I got a chance to answer, I think she may have taken the hint when I just walked away without saying a word

Daily mail have a poor reputation for just taking and using photos whether they have permission/rights or not. She's probably trawling flickr right now looking for the image

I saw her handing her card to another photographer, so......

£250 is high for that usage but I'd bill them now with an extra for unauthorised use.

I HATE the Daily Mail on every level and TBH this just fuels my HATRED for them even more. The money was for charity !! they have plenty of cash laying around from their gullible readers. What they are doing is stealing from you - something im sure they would be reporting in there paper , probably with the words , ethnic , immigrant , asylum and benefits chucked in the article as well.
God im sorry to go on , but i really despise the existence of that hate spreading rag .

Probably should point out that I dont think that blog is Byker28i's :) Just sharing the link ;)

You should let Amateur Photographer and the BJP know about this, they're currently following the mannequins story and the Daily Mail trying to trick people into sending them photos adds another element to it.

What a chump!! lol well spotted

You should have said "Sorry luv, but a bloke from The Sun's just offered me £5000 for it."

@ Byker28 re your link

The seventh comment - quite succinct I think. Sorry I know I shouldn't highlight such but hey, lets face it, they're all as bad as each other, it seems:shake:

I have quite a few photos on Alamy - if you take a look on their forums, you'll find that the Daily Mail are accused of being one of the No.1 offending newspapers that steals images without paying for them or crediting them properly. Every month, a new thread is started where "stolen" images are listed, along with URLs, and it gives you a good idea of who the main culprits are:

looks like they are closing quite a few roads in and around George square limiting views of the film

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-14599425

The whole square is being closed to traffic and there are strategically placed trees, hot dog stalls and parasols to prevent anyone getting a decent photo of the upcoming garbage truck stunt, which was originally slated for today, but from what I gather , due to the sun making an unscheduled appearance, will now take place tomorrow morning....

What a lot of fuss over some people dressing up and playing make believe.

It's always about the money isn't it.

Can your brain compute in a way that doesn't involve a £ sign?

When I get my scoop pic I am going to give it away free to all... just to wind you up!

some of us have to make a living from this whole picture taking thing, and strangely enough, that involves thinking about pound signs...

wanting to sell a very in demand photo of a A list celebrity to a national newspaper? That's not exactly wanton profiteering... supply and demand...

I quite agree........... however every bloody post is how much how much and then "my children need food on their plates" whilst we, as amateurs understand that pro's need to od x y and z, there could be a bit of reciprocal feeling as opposed to "how much did you charge? What? How can I work if you charge that little"

Can you imagine going into work and being told by your boss that your hours have been cut in half because some guy just popped in and said he would do your job for free? :bat:

To use the Glasgow vernacular.....

"Aye, right"

Submitted a pic to the local rag for inclusion in their Reader's pic of the day. (have a 5/6 strike rate with them at the moment)

This afternoon had a phone call from the pic editor asking to purchase full unconditional copyright of the full sized raw image for £100.

Asked what this meant........... (already had a good idea)

"We can use the image in any publication, can sell it on to other organisations, can sell copies of it to the general public, and can use it to promote the publishing group, Promote Norfolk with the relationship we have with the tourist board..."

At this point I was laughing so loudly, I missed the rest. Sorry got called on this by the humour police.

edit: At this point I had lost interest in his sycophantic waffling and fawning, and was bitterly disappointed with the what I consider to be a low offer given the rights I would be expected to transfer.

If I sell the copyright, I can do nothing with it, whatsoever, and I think I can sell a few prints of this one, which will nett me more than £100.......

So a gamble, but the initial offer , I thought was a joke.

:D

Again misquoted out of context.

How would I feel if someone were to do my job for free? Slightly confused as to what I do is rather specialist and I doubt any people do it as a hobby.

I have given pics for free including to a readers pic of the day part of a paper. However if they want full unconditional copyright, they can pay for it at the going rates.

On rereading, I'm not sure if your reply was to me or Chris

What I do is rather specialist too. I take thousands of pounds of highly technical equipment to a location, use technical and personal skills, backed up with my experience and creativity, to produce fantastic images that will make my clients money. I do keep seeing people try to do it for fun though...(invariably wasting everyone's time in the process...Hell, that's how I got my biggest client - a have a go hero took too many bad photos. The client learnt their lesson and now hires me regularly...)

readers pics competitions, fair enough. A pic of brad pitt that the mail would run in the front few pages? screw that, pay up :P

There is NOTHING wrong with taking photos and enjoying them, and submitting them for print for things like reader's pics, competitions etc, whatsoever! This is your hobby and I'm hardly going to tell a hobby mechanic that he shouldn't mend his mate's car! There's been far too many threads on here when people have felt that they 'should' charge for something that they did as a favour, just to appease 'the pros', getting into a tizz wondering if and how much etcetc. NO! go and take photos, enjoy them, please!

BUT know either when you are out of your depth and it would be better to leave it to the professionals (hell, ask if you can help out on the shoot, you'll learn stuff :) ) OR in this case, that you are in possession of a valuable thing and that (especially somewhere as truly objectionable as the daily mail) are making money from that, it is only right that they should pay for that - even if you donate the money to charity.

It will be very satisfying to see this case to a conclusion, hopefully with the DM forking out £2k to charity. They've already pulled one scumbag move saying that the 'case is resolved' by 'offering' to pay... the original invoice for 250! Serious dick move...

I get this with sporting events I cover for our team. Some think I should give away the images, until I raise the point that all money goes to support the team, plus I take several thousands of pounds worth of kit with me to get those images.

Recently whilst on holiday I was lucky to take some celebrity images that sold very well. That was a very welcome addition and good luck to Lynton if he thinks he can give away images that in my case would buy a minor L lens.
