The scratch in question is the line in the centre of the image at the top, the little blobs are most definately dirt and are what i was trying to get rid of.
I took it to London Camera Exchange in Chester who said they thought it was scratched. I might try Calumet in Mnachester at the weekend, or maybe Lehmanns in stoke if they can do it with in a few hours on a Saturday.
from what people are saying on here, it sounds like a proper wet clean by someone with a bit of knowhow might be the best way forward, i cant see it costing much and if it fixes it, you will be sighing with relief
Thanks for everyones help and input on this. I took my camera to lehmanns in Stoke yesterday for them to do a sensor clean and/or let me know if the sensor was scratched. I'm very happy as i don't have to buy a new camera just yet, as they manged to clean the sensor and it's as good as new now.
