Well, those in authority have to play by the published rules in according to the judicial system regardless of what else they know. I'd be more concerned about those who don't. It has never been easier for them than in current day. And those who have nothing to hide are absolute perfect targets to use as a shield; a shield to hide behind oneself ;)

I took authority as in Authority/Government just like others did in this thread considering the political references.

The groups and organisations chance constantly. Unless you have a real interest and follow what is happening you, and I, will not know. Not like there is a Wikipedia entry. Organised Crime has always been around and will remain it comes in many forms and is not always clear who or what belongs where.

I know that was aimed at Jp, but I would say a little of both, TBH they pass laws because its good for us, and in some respects take away a little more freedom of choice.
We, the man in the street, never know the full truth of what is happening behind the scenes, for our own good, of course.

I'm not saying that, just the fact that more and more our lives are under scrutiny.
Now some people are happy for that to continue, but I just wonder exactly how far it will go, it certainly wont end.

And the problem with untargeted surveillance is that it tends to generate more noise than signal. And you end up with something as half-cocked as Prevent.

Earlier you said that one day, the government will dictate exactly when we eat/sleep etc. Do you really believe that?

I've no idea, do you really think they would tell me *if* I was being watched?
But I find it curious, I visited a local shopping area a little while back, and as I arrived home I had an advert from Morrison's
telling me the best deals of the day, although I never entered Morrison's I was within 100 yards of the store.
Totally my fault as I had left my phone connected to the internet, I travel around a lot, and the weather is very important to my job, so I allow it to find the weather automatically, from my location.
But not any more ;)
So, to sum up, I was targeted by a store that I have never used. Either there or anywhere else.
That has to be legal I would have thought? And absolute proof that almost anyone can track you.

I said its a possibility, just like the astronauts, that ever one seems to be admiring these days.
I think I also said, I'm sure that it won't happen in my life time though.


 
Targetted ads. Some stores even use looking into it for interactive advert boards in stores etc, that change the product they are advertising based on your purchase history.

See if your wifi settinmgs are set to auto connect. If they are then your phone will search out the best signal, connect to it and then they have you ;)

Luckily, it's completely optional. You can always switch it off if you don't want targeted advertising.

It is really useful though. I saw a programme on the TV about how a prototype shopping centre was using people's wifi pings to track them as they used the centre. They were able to analyse shoppers movements, time spent in various places etc and used the data to improve the centre's design and layout, offer relevant promotions etc. Very clever stuff.

I've been trying to follow the arguments of the Flat Earthers and their conspiracy theories.
It comes down to every government in the world, NASA (Nazis), big business, the Illuminati, Jews, the Masons and others covering up the fact we live on a flat earth.
