An interesting project which has made me think about what a good portrait, and good acting, should be. (Which is no bad thing, tbh...)
The original subjects were shot being themselves and their faces reflect their lives, experiences, emotions and thoughts at that moment. JM, in trying to emulate them, has been made to resemble them but can have no idea what was going in behind the subjects' eyes at the time. The original subjects look variously worried, scared, manic, thoughtful or a bit bored, and that shows in their eyes. JM, in attempting to emulate the expression, can have no real idea what thoughts or emotions were driving the subject at the time and so his own face looks like that of a man simply trying to look like someone else, with none of the underlying drivers.
Good images, well shot, and a good "learning" reference but I prefer the originals in every case.
