I am thinking of getting a body camera

I believe GDPR applies to private individuals ( ie real people) too.
Not in terms of any obligations imposed no. You have to be engaged in 'enterprise' which does include clubs etc, but not personal / household matters (such as you personal contacts / home CCTV).

Been searching on t'interent for hours now, and not narrowed anything down. Most are too bulky and will only draw attention to the wearer, while the smaller ones the quality looks very poor.
Still on the search for something decent, will post any findings if anything suitable found.

Anyone else read the title and think Jon was asking about a camera body?

Me too, I must be very out of touch because I don't know what a body cam is

Its a very strange world these days, saying that I wouldn't mind a new body, sod the camera bit

I agree about personal contacts etc. However you could have a group of individuals not members of club who are conducting some enterprise — perhaps a family history group —and collecting PII on others.
Clubs can also be tricky. It happens that I am the “data controller” and “processor” for a club and apart from members I keep PII on about 500 people but all of this has been given verbally over the years. There is obviously some implied permission to keep the data but there is no paper (or electronic) trail. Also there is no formal agreement between me and the club — it happens that I am a member and officer of the club but if I were neither I would still carry out the same operations. I think GDPR probably applies to me/us but I have decided to ignore it.
(BTW I realise I’m breaking my own advice to jonbeeza that the least said the better :) )

Off with the missus this morning to do a bit of holiday shopping ( for her ) , I am going to help her choose a new top or two. I will keep a keen eye out, for my own wants.

I know not everyone is interested in getting, or using a body cam. But I am, it is my decision. So not really keen on listening to groaning moaning comments, on me wanting one. Not aimed at anyone, in particular. :)

Re gopro clone
That is the only thing, a little too bulky.

Thanks for the input..

Mounted on the hot shoe? It's a wide angle, camera carried on a shoulder strap it wouldn't be obvious it was recording. As the camera is 'down' it wouldn't be seen as a threat. Might need to put tape over any recording led

Google glasses or equivalent?

There are baseball caps with hidden cameras these day.

You turn it on by pressing a fob instead of running it full time ( so you can only run it when you feel threatened.

I can understand where you are coming from.

9 out of 10 people in the UK these days are t~~ts
You can also get glasses and what look like car key fobs, and of course the pen cameras. Someone gave me one of those pen cameras, to be fair it wasn't bad quality, good enough easily to identify someone and the sound was ok too.

You really need something that continuously records the last hour,or whatever, and very good battery life and easy to pop in a charger when you get home. I know nothing about gopros except that’s not what they were designed to do.

Yup this is what I was going to say - cameras designed for the job loop the recording (like dash cams) and you have to stop them after the event, rather than try and start them before the event.

Still not sure what they are, but am I right in thinking its to record everyday events whilst out and about.

If so, why?

An early post in the thread explains what and why the original poster wants one.

They're worn by some police forces, and other emergency services (for evidence collection, personal protection, etc.)

They're also seen heavily in roles such as high court enforcement officers, etc.

All seems a bit weird to me, only read he was mistaken for sombody else, guessing then its similar to what cyclists use to record run ins with motorists.

For the same reason why we use our everyday cameras, to record events. Just I want to do it hands free, and readily available. ;)

Does that matter, he’s not looking for discussion but for recommendations on the camera. Nobody knows other people’s situations fully :(.

It seems a bit weird to you?

But I am only interested in what equipment people may use, not really about what is happening in my life.
yes, I do sometimes post what is going on in my life. But in this instance it is all about the gear. ;)

I will get a body camera, if I find one that I like.
I don't feel I have to justify wanting one, to anyone. It is my decision!
All positive input welcome, thanks for the posts so far. :)

But they work very well at this, depending on the size of memory card, especially the cheap copies. Removeable battery if you need, but you can charge on the go, set to 5 min file length to stop them getting too big. Mine has done a whole trackday, with only external power plugged in, that could be a small USB battery phone charger.

I now use one of these.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/KOONLUNG-K1S-2-CHANNEL-GPS-RECORDING/dp/B00TM59NCK
small recording unit, tiny cameras plug in via micro USB

You could have full 360 coverage, gps coverage as well :D

If it helps at all - I recently got one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/AKASO-Camc...?ie=UTF8&qid=1530545254&sr=8-2&keywords=Akaso

The footage is excellent - and it's wide angle so it captures a lot. But the only way to mount it is in the waterproof casing - which blocks out almost all of the sound.

Form footage I took recently, you can hear my voice when mounted on a chest strap, but not much else.

This MIGHT be enough to record someone else - especially if they were up close and shouting, but I wouldn't want to recommend it as a definite.

What is good, is that in that box, you get all sorts of attachments including chest harness, bike mount, suction cup, float, selfie stick etc etc.

ETA: if you could work out a way of mounting just the camera, withouht the housing, it would be a lot more discreet.

Didn't say you were weird, don't know you, so can't say one way or another, you brought up a bizarre incident

What I find weird is the intrusion into life of so much surveillance, yet mention ID card and everyone jumps and down
Despite all the cameras police have given up looking for the bloke who shoved the woman into the road on a London bridge

Actually I do find some people a bit odd these days, always waiting for something to happen, even look for it and then go on about feeling threatened.

7dayshop currently have a GoPro clone for £25. Used one for time lapses of sunsets on holiday - battery lasted for just under 3 hours. Can be used in or out of the waterproof housing. Not sure what the sound's like - I was using it in the WP housing for ease of mounting. Used a different brand mounted on a bike headlamp and it didn't pick up ANY of the (quite fruity :D) exhaust through the housing.

Yes but things happen now that we’re almost unheard of in the past, such as the deliberate road collisions for insurance fraud, partly due to the internet and the cameras are a defence in many cases.
I agree about the ID cards but you can thank David Davis MP for that. We sorely need them now for all sorts of reasons — some quite mundane such as collecting goods you’ve ordered online. I’ve 3 times last week had to produce a photo ID. which could only be passport don’t have a current one) or driving licence (might have to give mine up soon), no substitutes. I bet the government requires that too sometimes. The recent “Windrush” scandal caused me to think there are a lot of native born white UK “citizens” who will have difficulty they have a right to remain if investigated :)

Been reading up on it, if I can find one with better IQ. Obviously it will be more expensive, but willing to pay. (y)

There are councils who use them for staff who do home visits (a camera built into an ID card holder) so there must be plenty of alternatives out there, it's just a hard item to google.

The purpose of the thread, was to see if anybody on this forum used such equipment. Not to question my lifestyle!

This was in the hopes of getting some recommendations. I am grateful for all the advice given. Thank you. :)

I have looked at a few devices that were mentioned in earlier posts, and looked at a couple on Amazon. Just weighing each other up, spec etc. I will be purchasing one over the next day or so.

I was going to post my purchase choice on here, with possibly a photo or two with camera in place. But the way some of the replies are going, I think it is better that I don't.

Once again, thanks for all the replies.

I am now leaving the thread.

Wow!
The people I come into contact with it’s less than 1 in a hundred.
I’m guessing that means you believe we’re all t***s?
Wow. Why would you bother going on in such a horrid world.

Ok 9 out of 10 is an exaggeration.

But just to give you an example, my brother bought a lovely puppy. It got poisoned to death by his neighbours. How nice

Hopefully your brother had proof of their criminal activity and got the RSPCA involved to get them prosecuted. Such cruelty needs taking very seriously!!!
