Week 18 - I like the idea (pink elephant), but I feel really mean saying that I think it lacks a little impact - and I haven't even got any ideas on how you could do it differently.
The composition is attractive, the detail in the porcelain is good. I'm thinking as I type and after looking yet again, I wonder if turning the trunk slightly more towards the camera would have given a more 3-D feel? He looks rather 2-dimensional in profile. I think we all want honesty in this challenge, but I feel I've been a bit negative without being confident that I'm offering a 'better' alternative.
Sorry for the ramble - I should get my ideas sorted before commenting. :bonk:

, but as you described, not so simple to do Its great - I do like the pink and the graduated background - simple indeed and nicely framed
Linear - ah now we're talking - a guitar (drool!) Nicely shot - great angle and great lines and the dof works well... I keep looking and it keeps drawing me inNicely focused on the middle pick up

You really do have a knack of getting the very best out of your DOF shots...

Its all in the eyes in this one - a lovely portrait - with an expression that could be read many ways - but certainly there's emotion there!
Very nice![]()
That's a gorgeous portrait.
I like tight crops and for me, you've judged it just right. The angle of her head is nicely judged too. The lighting is gentle and fits the mood of the portrait. The emotion says 'Pensive' .
A classic shot that will stand the test of time.
One very, very small niggle - I would clone out the dark spot in the catchlight in her left eye. Ring flash?

that sums it up for me![]()
Well done Hyster, a technically great shot.![]()
I also like the way that you have no accompanying words as is leaves it up to the viewer to place their emotions on the shot...very clever!!!
Its not a ringflash but a homemade beauty dish, made out of a £2 Tesco's salad bowl painted white and a round shaving mirror bolted on!

now that's what I call inventive. It does the job beautifully. I rather like that. The ambiguity of the emotion is interesting. Can't quite tell what she's thinking.
Great portrait...works so well in B&W...and well cropped.
nicely fits the theme, excellent Gary...![]()

great take on the theme and lovely colours you have in there![]()
What fantastic splash of colour (yellow is my favorite colour) so it works so well for me...
another great crop and excellent dof with just the right amount of oof flower...Brilliant shot...![]()
Wow thats something else!!!
Thats an album cover waiting to be used! Love it - there seems to be blur and movement (or is that just extremely shallow dof) whatever it is it (for me at least) enhances the shot enormously!

I love the angle and the very tight crop - great impact. I'm a little undecided about the dof and the colour. (Sorry - it's not a criticism - more thinking aloud!) I wonder if the the shallow dof would work better with a less vibrant colour - giving a more ethereal look, or this gorgeous vivid yellow with a bit more dof?
But that doesn't detract from a gorgeous flower with a complex structure.
And it brought a smile to my face.

Gary mate you need to change your title for each week I nearly missed your shot for this week...
It certainly fits the theme alright, but its not your best work that we have all come to appreciate every week. There is nothing really wrong with it and the dof and focus are all what I would expect from your high standard. Its just a bit flat, I know you really do like to hear what people think of your shots, so Im not worried your be disappointed with my comments because I know you will push yourself a little harder next time.
