A friend just sent me this link and I was so amazed at the works on this website that I just wanted to share it :) ...

Staff edit: NSFW prefix added as some of the images contain nudity

Incredible detail. You can spot the photographer sometimes in reflections.

Indeed! I suspect that the figure in the grey coat and black trilby is probably JFR himself, but I haven't done that much research on it yet, having only just seen the website.

I like all of the historical looking figures in this one (and the hot Asian chick in the Dr. Martens :naughty:) ...

What a labour of love these images must be :).

I guess that truly great photographers just aren't as interesting as threads about people who take their children out onto thin ice, or toggers who have to defend themselves from snowball attacks !?

:D Don't mind me, I'm just going through a 'serious' patch - it'll pass ;)!

off topic but how do you know number of views? thought this got disabled ages ago, is there a setting somewhere??

on topic, WOW, insane levels of detail, the fantasy gallery is something else

Incredible. How are pictures of this size created?

Those are stunning, must be a hell of a lot of work on each photo. The one of the library is just immense! Can see the stitching on some of them, so I am guessing these are mostly high quality images stitched and then stuff added and fiddled with...amazing detail and sharpeness though.

nice, the straight on building shots look like the textures we knock up for game envoriments after a bit of brushing and distorting

Or even though these are amazing photos with incredible detail they are not of subjects that I would choose to view/interest me so nearly didn't comment :)

Where's Wally?
Took me a while but found her. Surely the couple on the top should have had a titanic pose? :D

Hi Stephen!

I know the number of views because when I go into the User CP and find "All posts by Naboo32", it lists every post I've made along with the current number of views for that thread. This thread, for instance, is now on 352 views.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to disable that feature , but then, I don't have much imagination :D!

Fantastic pictures - well found!

Some of the EXIFs indicate a variety of Nikons and a Hasselblad (aperture F96!!?) but he does explain how he makes the pictures in the technical section on his site.

He says it's a manual process with hundreds of photos and stitching them with photoshop. I thought this could be automated these days with the Gigapixel technology that was mentioned on here recently.....he's wasted hours :)

the level of detail is amazing. is this the sort of thing you take with a film scanner?? closing in on a face or a hand still has outstanding quality and colour clarity

cheers Andy, it used to display the views and replies in the normal forum list (eg. talk photography room) but the layout was changed a while ago to only show number of replies and no longer the ammount of views. Good to know you can still find it out though.
cheers
Steve

That was my assumption too. As you say, the sharpness of each image section is quite stunning and there appears to be almost no distortion in most of them . This guy (or his team) must have spent many, many our manipulating these individual captures, but the results were certainly worth it.

I don't know about you, but I'd be really interested to watch a documentary about this was done, if there was such a thing :naughty:.

I really want to see - http://www.hyper-photo.com/zoom/villes-lumiere/paris/ - that but it wont load for me :(

 Nor for me! Shame.

Yes I know, I was 'stamping my feet' toddler-stylee, earlier on when I thought that this thread was going nowhere, so apologies for that. Anyway, I realise that this work won't be everyone's cup of tea, but from a purely technical point of view, it might still prove interesting.

Thanks for posting your comment and keeping the thread alive anyway, Christine !

Why is the NSFW?

Apparently, some of the images on the website contain 'nudity', although I haven't seen those particular ones ! Still looking for them though :D ...

There are many odd things in that traffic one! Would love to know what was going on off the right of the pic as there are people with camera phones pointing that way in a few cars.
