How was this shot lit? A new challenge

Somebody else have a go, I am busy for the rest of the neet :thumbs:

Good enough! Classic high key setup. More detail:-

The two back flashes were pointed at the background. Used a lightmeter to ensure exposure was constant all over background.

The front left light was reflected with a brolley. Meter reading at subject to ensure light here was 2 stops less than at the background. Also used a reflector on 'togs right to side of subject.

Above was shot using B&W film - Ilford FP4+ in case you're interested.

Over to fletch5...

Yes, there is some PP work on it but it doesn't hide or change the lighting.
Sorry, no umbrella and no reflector

Hard to see the catch lights at that res, they look circular - beauty dish?

If you look at the very bottom left of the picture, the bottom of her hair, there is a golden patch (which seems to move up the far left side of the image) - thought that may have been distant gold reflector, but it must be the PP, as it's definitely lighter.
 
Got it in 2. Beauty dish with honeycomb.
The PP doesn't affect it, the lighter area of the hair is simply light reflected from the beauty dish.

Looks to me like a small/medium softbox to camera left and in the rimlighting position, with a 2nd light camera right and fairly low. Nicely lit.

As I started this thread I shouldn't really offer answers - but I thought the thread needed a bump;)

Very close; there is also a large white reflector (just out of frame right) for fill. Kicker is also a grid spot (no idea which variant, made it from black card and straws - 2cm long, so probably quite small).

Hit me with another! :)

One thing I missed of is a diffuser on the photographers flash.

Anyone caught laughing at my gingerbread man will be punished :bat: It was the closest thing I had to a person in my tubes :lol:

Harsh shadows and selective lighting; looks a lot like a collapsed reflective brolly (catch light appears to have dot in centre, and ring flashes have a different wrap around quality).

Whatever the source, it might be quite far from the subject, and placed just above head level, pretty much directly at her (no nose shadow).

Another light on the BG of course!

Is this just the modelling lights from your d-lites, set on full power, one for the model and one for the background?
 
Photochimp....

I'm guessing a snoot for the background which is placed behind the subject.

The light for the subject is slightly above. Coming from slightly behind and to the left of the subject. Probably an egg crate or grid was used too.

Just my guess.

This is one of those shots that could have been lit in various ways...
Fresnel spot
Beauty dish
Or a honeycomb
Whichever it is, just a single light directly in line with the face

Oops, messed that up, that's what comes of having 2 shots up at once. I'm talking about the one by Photochimp

didnt even notice this message, yeah beautydish with grid main snoot rear but shoot just using modeling lights so that I could get the desired dof.

How could you tell it was modeling lights?
 
I used one of those LED car lamps for my pic, just raised above and to the side of the flower. No other lights as it was dark outside.

I have a set of these lights.............

No, it was a guess because of the lack of a bright catchlight in your wife's eyes.

Beautifully shot though.
 
That is an oddshaped catchlight in the eyes EdBray

I would guess your new beauty dish (looks like it's worked this time) to your left and high, together with a reflector on the right as there doesn't seem to be a shadow on the model's left

Almost, I do look much better in this one though :p

Beauty dish part is correct, I had another small head below the camera position with a shoot through umbrella on it to provide the fill light (I touched out the highlight from this light in Kirsty's eyes). I then set another head with a honeycomb on it aimed behind Kirsty onto the background but set at a low level just to remove the harshness of the black background.

yes, I have the lights now
but would you believe they arrived the day I left to go to Spain
so they're there and I'm here
and I'm doing a do tonight
