House, burgled, scumbags.....

EDDZZ is on a short break.
But I'm sure that the rest of you
will continue to play nice :)

didnt take long to turn into a police bashing thread..

good old OOF.

Nope. Not from me or meant to be but some forces do have a points tally to achieve, that's a fact, which can sometimes explain the observation that some forces don't use discretion ( or appear too)
For what it's worth one of our sites was burgled andthe thieves left behind blood as they cut themselves when they broke the window to get in. DNA took two weeks but they identified the person and found them with goods.

Would you like to back up your "factual" comment with some evidence because, having served a number of years on both Motorway patrol and divisional traffic departments I never saw or heard of this mythical points tally. :cuckoo:
I caught many offenders during my days on Traffic, my shift and the others had an unofficial competition on the amount of crime related prisoners we could arrest during our 7 nights of night shifts.

I am really sorry to hear of the burglary. It is a devastating crime that takes a long time to get over.

With regards to retaliatory visits I would strongly urge the OP to refrain from following this course of action, however tempting it sounds. Feel free to ask the locals a few questions and pass any info on to the police but that is really as much as I would advise the OP to do.

Above - I think it's just a general public misperception that the police do nothing all day except lay in wait for poor motorists to make innocent mistakes...

We don't see what the police actually do, because policing has changed and they aren't as visible as they used to be. But I have a better idea than some, because my studio has a good CCTV system and police often pop round and ask to see my recordings. I'm often surprised at the amount of effort they go to, to solve even very minor crimes, and impressed when they immediately recognise suspects on the CCTV

I can vouch for this, the CID have been very helpful in my case, I've had numerous visits, they sent someone round to my neighbour to do an efit (she saw them obviously). The police are treating our break in very seriously indeed. I'm not holding out hope for our belongings being returned as they are probably long gone and sold on a few times now, but I and the police seem confident the efit produced will be recognised and an arrest will be made. The efit is very good apparently.

Thanks again for the support and I didn't expect this thread to turn into a police bashing thread, that's the last thing I wanted. 2 of my mates are coppers and they work extremely hard at a very difficult job.

Andy

Was on the TV only the other night, one of the Police programs explaining that the officers had a points system for the various offences and they had targets to meet each month. It was explained that officers found it difficult to use their discretion because of these targets and how the officers on the front line didn't like it.

But, since you don't believe me:

How about June 2013, talking about the target driven culture in Kent

Have you actually read those links you posted up????

They are all Home Office targets for crime figures, such as detection figures for burglaries, assaults etc, nothing to do with targets for traffic tickets! And FWIW there are NO home office targets for traffic process. The only target roads policing (aka traffic) officers have are to continuously reduce the KSI rate (those killed or seriously injured).

Rich, don't forget to check the like of Cash Converters etc on their website. You might find some of the jewellery on there from further out. Also check ebay although that could take a lot of your time up searching.

I find it so frustrating that most house burglaries don't seem to get a lot of policing as other crimes seem to but I'm sure they go through the motions. The inputting of various cases to computer does sometimes bring a result from cross referencing so hopefully you'll get a good result and get some of your items back.

The only problems with these sort of crimes is they don't seem to get the punishment they deserve once the police have done their bit. A guy fairly local to me burgled 3 houses in his own street around 6 months ago, got caught and ended up with a £50 fine plus costs and a 6 week suspended sentence for those 3 and 6 other burglaries. They got some of the stolen items back but my friend (one of the 3 in the same street) ended up losing over £800 worth of jewellery and 'she' was cautioned for 'having serious words', but no violence, with the guy after he told the police she had threatened him.
