Hi,

I was gutted to arrive home from work today to find we'd been burgled. Wife's jewellery, Laptop, all my camera gear, perfumes, aftershaves, iPod, docking station........ Absolutely devastated, more for my wife as a lot of the jewellery was bits that had been passed down the family and can never be replaced, really sentimental stuff. My camera gear and laptop etc can be replaced over time but not the jewellery.
There's some real scumbags out there people.....

I'm going to have a ride around the local cash converters/pawn shops and jewellers tomorrow but I'm not holding out much hope.......

If by any slim chance anyone hears of any jewellery, camera gear, laptop or the other bits mentioned above, around the Leeds Wakefield area, please get in touch.

Thanks guys.
Rich

sorry to hear that - must be an awful feeling...

quite often now, the scumbags don't go to the local cash converters (etc) due to people in your situation tracking it down....

If you have the time, maybe as far as Sheffield also Gumtree / Craiglist are well known for "disposing of hooky goods..." There is also a worldwide known auction site...

Obviously the jewellery is the biggie - anything unusual in there that people might see (though in all honesty would more than likely end up in a ca$h for gold joint) any serial no's for the electricals?

Sorry to hear it :( hope you find at least some of your stuff and the thieves get jailed for a long time.

Thanks, were holding hope, but only a little. We're very aware that its highly unlikely that we will get anything back.
It's hit us both this morning, the fact that some lowlife has been in our house and through our things !!!!!!
Yesterday we found out our mortgage had been approved for our new house, then I came home to find the house robbed......... Joy to sorrow in the space of 5 hours.......

Thanks again.

Thanks, I'm gonna check out the local cash converters places today and have a look on the websites.
The jewellery is the main one yeah, rings, bracelets, necklaces, in particular a silver chain with a chunky ingot.

Thanks lynton

:(
You can post a list of the kit and serial numbers in the Talk Equipment forum, and add a link to your thread in the [thread=450516]Stolen Equipment List[/thread] sticky.

Life seems to be like that far too often. Kicks you when you're up eventually.

Let us know if they catch the scumbag. Good luck.

Edit: just a thought, if they stole computers you don't have any tracking on them do you? Apple computers have find my iPhone installed and you can pinpoint their location on a map.

My understanding is that a lot of small stolen items are traded for drugs, not sold directly to the dodgy cash converters etc.

So, although it may be a forlorn hope, it could be an idea to do the rounds of these potential buyers over a period of time - if they end up there, they may not do so for a long time.

sorry to hear of this, it must be awful i am not sure how i would deal with it i hope that you do get some stuff back.

Feel for you both...happened to me many years ago when we had some jewellery stolen. They were that good that we didn't even know they had been in the place till things you look for are not there...as you say items can be replaced, but its the thought of somebody being in your house and going through your things that really gets to you.
Hope you get the stuff back and if you find the culprits, perhaps a kicking one night wouldn't go amiss. :naughty:

So sorry to hear this. I hope they get caught... we were burgled twice in our old home and both times they managed to catch the offenders, one got 8 years and think the other got 3 or 4. Never got any of our stuff back, we too had jewellery, tv stuff etc nicked. Might also be worth checking the local auction house?

Thanks for the support and kind words guys, really appreciate it.
I've done the rounds of local shops etc, no joy.
Police have a eye witness who has agreed to go down the cop shop to do an efit type thing tomorrow. I've also done a bit of digging and come up with a few local undesirables who were seen "knocking about" down my way yesterday and will be getting a knock on the door this evening from some friendly undesirables (well known friends of mine) and asked politely if they can have have a look around.

Like I said before, I'm not holding out hope but you never know. I think as long as I know in my mind that I've done everything in my power to try and recover our belongings, I'll rest easier.

Thanks again guys.
Rich

My advice is to pass their details to the police and let them deal with it. They know how to do their job, and if you recruit "friendly undesirables" to do it for them you'll be just as bad as the people who stole from you.

Sorry to hear this, tis a horrible thing.

Been burgled six times years ago before my place was made into Fort Knox ...I knew who had burgled me 3 of those times without a doubt, gave names and even addresses to the police ...nothing happened... weeks later I got a letter saying they couldn't find the thieves and no further action will be taken....

It should be reported but in my experience nothing will come of it.

Crime scene number for insurance claims is the standard response these days BUT they did manage to give the Mrs a speeding ticket for 45 in a 40 zone :rules:
Burglaries can take a long time to get over and is a horrible thing to happen to anyone. Good luck with getting things sorted

Are you sure? ACPO guidelines stipulate 46 and above (in a 40) only get enforced. Certainly as a traffic cop, I'd never give a ticket for 45 in a 40.

Lets not turn this into "police only catch speeders not burglars" as I've caught more than my fair share of burglars in my time...

To the OP, sorry to hear this, it's a devastating crime to fall prey to. The cops will have a core of people they know are currently committing burglaries in your area and all prints / DNA will be screened against theirs. Hopefully they left something of themselves behind...

they're guidelines though different forces interpret them differently ( I know someone who got a ticket for 42 in a 40 zone in Stafford)

But yes you are right about police response to burglaries - we had an attempted break in at work, didn't get anything but made a royal mess of the door trying to get in - police were very good (okay they didn't get anyone - but it wasn't for want of trying)

I can only add my sympathy to that already expressed - it's a horrible experience and while some things (may even everything) can be replaced, it's the feeling that they have been in and around your private stuff that is worse.

keyword there is guidelines!

They are only guidlines and an officer does have discretion but he has to show that he has acted fairly, consistantly and proportionality ie he has to book everyone at less than the guidelines, it needs to be general policy in the area.

Hi, Rich, firstly I f'ing hate thieves.

It's been a long time since I was burgled, but I was fuming. FWIW, I'd be careful about any retaliatory action...or at least posting about it

As an aside, a family moved next door but one over the weekend and were burgled yesterday :shake:

Cheers and if you need a borrow let me know

sorry to hear this its a shame the likes of facebook etc strip the data from photos id bet if you had a look on it every now and then at the local photos that get posted your lens or camera would turn up well show the sn number its a shame that no 1 has made some type of software that can scan the exif data for the sn numbers of the camera and lens used to take the photo id bet they would find a good % of stolen stuff,

Not sure how good it is at finding them, but there is a way to search for the serial.

Plus it won't help if the EXIF has been stripped but you never know, you might just get lucky.

And sorry to hear what happened. We got burgled once and it is a horrible feeling.

Depends if your in an area where the office have a points tarrif to meet every month.

That old cliche. Not really.

Traffic depts are tiny compared to burglary units and CID departments, so there are far more cops working on burglaries.

And a traffic cop, I pick the burglars (which you can target from intel) over the speeders, as would 99% of them. I might get a laser gun out once a month, for about an hour, and that's fairly typical.

so sorry to hear about that, you're right, there really are some awful scumbags around :(

for what it's worth, if you live in a smallish community, it might be worth putting up a few posters and offering a reward - someone always knows something... my mother got burgled a few years back and lost all her jewellery, some of which had been in the family for a very long time. We think someone had been watching her home and took advantage when she was out. As you say, scumbags.

didnt take long to turn into a police bashing thread..

good old OOF.

... Sorry this happened to you Rich :( All you can is hope that the police will catch the buggers and that they get what they deserve! Here's hoping you manage to track down the jewelry!

Quick question. On Flickr when you go to the exif data info, and then more info, is that the serial number of the lens that took the photo ?

Thanks
Rich
