Yes
For some reason which is a complete mystery to me, I have gone and ordered a bottle of Dave's Insanity Ghost Pepper chilli sauce. Now, I understand that it is quite hot.
My question is, has anyone on here tried it or similar?

Never tried it, but I advise you to put a toilet roll in the fridge now!

I stupidly tried it on a cracker for a bet a few years ago, cue rolling around on the floor for 10 mins with my mouth opening and shutting like a goldfish while my girlfriend and mates laughed at me as only someone laughing at another persons misfortune can.

Not tried the sauce but I've been growing chilli's and currently have a big bag of flaked Naga ghost chilli.

I would advise you use with caution and keep milk on standby, Ghost chilli's are hotter than the sun :)

It will definitely be bum fire night in you're house

yeah its hot hot hot. Ghost peppers are Naga ~Jolokai's.

Scotch bonnet on the scoville index is about 350,000. Nagas are well over 1m (but it is a log scale!)

Tried a few of them over the years, and yes, they are hot. A really good place to look for these sauces is http://www.scorchio.co.uk/.
No affiliation, just had good service from them previously.

As an eating experience it will be like poking pins in your eyes!

hmm I thought the scoville scale measures how diluted the chili must be to not seem "hot" any more.. That would make it a linear scale.

Is it difficult to grow naga chillis?

They do it in Dorset and I did one plant a few years ago ... same problem though, all heat no taste ... can't beat a Scotch Bonnet for flavour IMO.

hmmm - it appears you are correct.

either way it's bloody hot!

A mate had it a few years back, he put it on a burger while worse for ware, he thought it was tom sauce, really thought I was going to have to call an ambulance could hardly breath, drenched on sweat, had hiccups for about 4 hours

didn't realise that

this is as close as i've come to them then

A good few years ago I poured the original's Dave's sauce straight out of the bottle onto my tongue, about half a teaspoon worth. I was completely silent for about half an hour, pain isn't the word.

The new Dave's is even hotter, treat it with respect.

Or just get a mate to swig it out of the bottle then proceed to pee your side laughing.

I've got some Bhut Jolokia ("ghost pepper") plug-plants in the greenhouse at the moment. I've only had them a few weeks so it's still early days but they seem happy enough.

Prepare to cry, all the extract based sauces are evil, not to mention don't taste that nice.

Sharwoods are doing a Ltd edition bhut jolokia (ghost pepper) curry sauce at the minute. Tamed down slightly but still blooming hot.

My fave at the minute is an Aussie sauce... Byron bay habenero and mango sauce....mmmmm

The ghost pepper has now been surpassed by the Trinidad scorpion in the heat stakes!

...And by a couple of Naga varieties (Dorset & viper) and of course the newly crowned hottest chilli: the Moruga Scorpion, again by Butch T, at 2m SHU!

Seriously though, for pleasurable eating my limit is around the Habanero/Scotch Bonnett heat level. Anything hotter is just for novelty or "one for the gip" nonsense eating. :D

A few years ago I had a bottle of the original insanity sauce and it was evil, chap at work put a bit on his finger licked off which was bad enough, then a few mins later picked his nose was then found in toilets snorting water for about an hour

I'm tempted to get a bottle of "15 minute burn" for some extract madness.

The sauce's previous incarnation, 10 minute burn, was banned from several chilli shows after people became overwhelmed by it and started paleing out.

I don't know the sauce you have ordered but many years ago I bought a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce.

Used very, very carefully as an addition to sauces it was OK, .... just. But really I thought it was very poor.

It was extremely hot, as in you "wish you had died" hot, but there was no flavour. Compared to, IMO, the wonderful, blow your head clean off, fruitiness of a good Scotch Bonnet pepper it had nothing to recommend it.

I had a feeling that it was produced just to be very hot without any subtlety.

Dave

I brought a couple of Scotch Bonnet`s home today from work for my mate, he will have a whole one on an egg sandwhich for breaksfast in the morning :shake: I now know why stands there belching all day

No, I have a selection of chili plants growing in every window in the house (inc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinidad_Moruga_Scorpion ) although Habanero's have been my most successful in recent years.

As for the hot sauce, add a dash into curry, chili or pasta to make it yummy :)

I use to take mine in to work shows who can take the heat and who just thinks they can and brag about how hot food is when it really wasn't ;)

I have just received the bottle through the post. It is in a rather nice wooden box with 'CAUTION' tape around it. So, it looks like I will be making myself a large pot of chilli tonight!

Not trying to troll here, but what is the point of these ThermoNuclear Sauces, beyond peeing yourself when your mate tries a tiny amount and passes out?

Surely if they are so painfully hot, why not just get a less hot one and use a bit more on your food/in your chilli, with a better margin of error?

I am still happy to liberally sprinkle tabasco on my milder curries or baked beans or whatever and am happy I can splash away without inviting hospitalisation. If instead I had Dave's WidowMaker Sauce (or whatever) I presumably would have to cautiously deposit 2 (not 3 and 4 is definitely out) drops evenly on my food, and pray I didn't stumble on the unadulterated sauce unprepared...

Or am I missing something :)

Gotta have me some of that :)

Sharwoods also does a Goan Vindaloo that is really spicy anyway but goes great with a bowl full of chopped chills...

I suppose it's all in the amounts you eat and what you apply it to.

I love hot sauces - I go through bottles of Encona Hot Pepper sauce each month, having on curries, rice dishes, chilli, snacks like samosas, pot noodles, soup, all sorts.... it's very hot but has a really strong taste so does add something to the dish. The misses bought me a sauce called 'The Tongues of Hell' which is again very hot but has little taste and ends up being a bit pointless other than to add spice when I don't have chills to hand.

Personally, I prefer a bowl of chopped green chills on the side to add to meals like curries....

I have my eye on a bottle of Colon Cleaner or Sphincter Shrinker

Encona is brilliant, it's my ketchup of choice ... Scotch Bonnets again :)

went on a stag do once in Puerto Banus and we all went for an indian.. where as usual conversations start about the hottest you've ever had, the best restaurant you've been to etc etc... all one upmanship sort of stuff. So this guy sat next to me decided to request raw chilli's to accompany his meal and he happily chomped away on them as the conversation continued as if they were sticks of celery or something... until he turned to me and i saw blood trickling down both nostrils.

Have you ever seem the opening titles for the tv show Bonanza?

That'll be a certain part of your anatomy.

And I don't mean your mouth :naughty:

Anyone tried the "Saltdean Sizzler"? at Pauls Pizza? looks insane!

Seen videos of people struggling to eat one slice, but house from thechilefoundry.co.uk manages the whole thing in under 4 minutes!!!!!!

I've been a fan and user of Dave's Insanity sauce for a few years now.Last year I wanted something with a little more burn to it so I bought the Insanity Sauce Special Reserve, which comes in a coffin shaped box. Now thats a cheeky little number.

Why? What a muppet!!!

There's hot but kind of nice hot (scotch bonnet / bhut jolakai) -gets the endorphons kicking in a bit - I make homemade "boy burgers" using these....... and then there is painful insane extracts...

:cuckoo:

I have decided that purchasing a bottle of Dave's Insanity Ghost Pepper Chilli sauce, was probably a little optimistic of me. I also purchased a packet of Devil's Nuts, which are spicy cashew nuts, flavoured with 4% Naga chilli. They blew my head off. I am now cr*pping myself about trying this sauce. The problem is, that every time I watch You Tube footage of some other person trying these ridiculous chillies my masochistic streak rears it's ugly head. Why do I want to try this stuff even though I know that I will suffer? What is the matter with me?

I doubt even the most experienced hot chilli enthusiast would class bhut jolokia as a "nice hot". Have you tried one (a whole pepper, chewed propery)?

have to agree here...ghost peppers (bhut jolokia) are the work of satan. I find habenero hot enough without getting to the painful stage, although scotch bonnet taste nicer (if not quite as hot).

mentioned it earlier, but this stuff rocks, even if it is proper hard to get hold of over here (only found one site that sells it). An initial kick but then a really fruity aftertaste;
