Hi i'm new my names maz, i have never been on forum before can i pick your brains please. Im looking to learn about photography, not knowing wether to go a course or to self teach from books and internet? speaking to jessops about cameras, they said a nikon d90 was the best for proffessional pictures but as im not proffessional YET!! im concerned im spending alot of money on a camera that im not sure about can someone help. maz

how long have you been into Photography?

sounds to me Jessops are trying to get more money than they need for what you want. id a £700ish D90 is best for pro pics why do they sell a £2500 D3? lol

depending on what you want and how much you want to spend i would personally look at something second hand, a D80 or even D200 to get you started and build up your collection, then if you wanted you could upgrade later

hi Maz, welcome to TP, not been here that long myself but im really having fun. speaking for myself i just picked up a few mags and the use of the internet and help from forums and thats how i got started, still learning each and every day.can i recommend a Nikon D40 for a first camera, its what ive got/had ( just sold it ) but i liked it that much i upgraded to the D40X.

Thanks for the help melevo all is needed lol!!

^^ :agree:
Arse. Too slow again!!!
I agree with Whitey.

They don't know what camera is best for you.
There are many sDLR's on the market, all different for lot's of reasons.

Work out what you want to do with it, how much you want to spend etc.
Spend allot of time here asking questions, reading posts etc.
There's a very good chance that rushing out and buying any old camera will backfire.
Later down the line, you might find that it wasn't right for you after all.
Although having said that, there's not too much wrong with a D90.
(Except that it's a Nikon  )

There's MANY many options that you should consider before spending any money on any camera gear.

And if you ask me, learn the basics from the net and forums (just like this one!!!) and then teach yourself.
And the most important thing ever, GET OUT AND TAKE LOT'S OF PHOTO'S!!!!
Secondly, enjoy it :woot:
Everything I've learn't over a few years about photography has been from forums, magazines and internet.

another quick question for melevo i have been on that site you posted to me is this your site ? because WOW!!! im impressed there is a portrait picture of a girl on a car the back ground is black and she is in colour how do you do that ?

i would say read alot on the bits and aspects of photography tat interests you, landscapes, portraits, motorsports etc and go from there, its were i have learnt alot. then trying to put everything into practice and taking loads of pics

i would try and find an exif viewing software to which can help you with data and settings for shots and assist you and help you knowing whats what

Hi maz & welcome to not only the best forum but the best place to learn all about photography.

I'd suggest you start here ... http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=23 in the Tutorials and Guides section as there are some real Golden Nuggets of information about what camera to buy etc.

Most of all have fun and enjoy it as a hobby for now, then you can decide if you need a course and qualifications and maybe turn professional at a later date.

HTH

Gary :)
