It's been well documented how useless my local courier is and I vowed never to buy from a seller using this courier ever again.
I recently bought from Amazon, but not full filled by them.
The seller uses RM. Great no problem.

I started to get "there is a problem" on the tracking site. Uh Oh! Alarm bells started to ring...

I got in about 12 noon today, and never went out the front door again, until about 19:30.
I posted earlier about how heavy the rain has been today, quite shocking at times! ..

I went out the front door at the stated time, above, and guess what was sitting dripping wet on my doorstep?
Yep, it had a Hermes sticker on it!
No knock on the door, no updated tracking, just a sorry your parcel is delayed.
That's 3 times this year, ( well almost)

1) a child's electronic toy, just before Christmas sopping wet, and a crushed box. left on the door step in the pouring rain.
Totally ruined
1f641.png

2) A few plants completely decimated, the box, left on the door step, (no updated tracking, and no bell rung. ) was crushed and smashed, plants out of their packaging,
lose soil in the box rather than the plants containers, despite the fact that it was very much labeled fragile.
Maybe they thought this one contained a football?
( it actually wasn't raining this time )

Having emailed the CEO at this point, It seems that Hermes don't "Recognise" fragile stickers..
Something about computers not seeing the "tape" .... OK so maybe they missed it, but I'm sure the courier isn't blind .. well maybe they are.
There is a note on the front door "if no answer please leave in / at X"
Royal mail do it every time, so I know I wrote it in English ..

3) today's parcel was "soft furnishings" the outer plastic bag type packet had a few small holes it it ...
Did they think it was a dart board? FFS!
Thankfully the inner and product retail bag was vacuumed sealed and the contents dry..

Of course the CEO yet again had an email with the benefit of my thoughts on this particular employee ..

The last time I contacted him, I was offered a £5 gesture of good will. I told him, well that is his office,
to keep it and add it to the employee training fund.
Seems that never happened either .

Oh dear ,like you I will not buy from anyone that uses this crock o’ s*** company .. unfortunately some sellers are now using them but stating there using RM to get the sale. Not sure what the answer is but “ what delivery” springs to mind

Hmm, and I thought it was too early to mention that word.

PS.

How come the Puppies and Kittens filter, does not kick in?

Its OK it was the last one, its consigned to history just like the battle of Hastings (y)

I got bored with that and removed it.
I'll think of something better as we get a little closer...
"puppies & Kittens" Cards will be on sale by the end of August, if previous years are anything to go by..

unfortunately some sellers are now using them but stating there using RM to get the sale.
I'll be emailing the seller later, and telling him / her that I won't be buying from them again,
And explaining why.
I doubt they'll give a monkey's but I'll add it to my product review on Amazon also..

Depends entirely on your local delivery person. We had a Polish lady doing Hermes deliveries for a few months, she was excellent, would always go the extra mile to make sure things were delivered correctly and would even leave parcels at the local pub if requested to. Her replacement was terrible…. things delivered to the wrong houses, parcels just thrown in hedges, stuff arriving late or just not at all. He didn’t last long thank god.

The worst one locally now is FedEx. Had two deliveries turn up recently, both delivered late and both with the boxes ripped open and the contents damaged. One was a set of curtain poles that must’ve had an elephant stood on to get them in the state they arrived.

They are all bad, our restaurant has frozen sausages delivered via DPD. They are supposed to deliver to the actual restaurant, if they cant get into our delivery yard they leave it outside the gate rather than use the entrance the public use which is actually a shorter walk. Imaging what state they are in when you find them 9 hours later in 30C. Apparently we are not using that supplier any more....

Absolutely it does. The previous husband and wife team were brilliant.

But this one is well known around my area.
There are many reports on the local community hub regarding her antics,
Just recently, parcels left in a bush, away from the intended delivery address,
Takes picture of side of vehicle, ( theirs) as proof of delivery.
Left something in a side alley, with image, that no one in the local area actually reckonised ...

Apparently we are not using that supplier any more....
Terrible :(
It just seems that a lot of couriers treat all deliveries the same, no matter what is in the packet.

They're building the largest warehouse in Europe by the M1 at Barnsley. It must be over 1/4 mile long. Bloody eyesore.
Our local Hermes delivery is quite good, it's pot luck.
However I sent a guitar down to my lad in London, paid next day delivery etc. Arrived 5 days later with hole in box and scratch.
Fortunately it was only an old beater Yam.
Never again.
DPD, on the other hand, have been brilliant.

I ordered something from ebay earlier this week. and found the seller had used herpes. The delivery driver has been sneaking "Sorry I missed you..." cards through the letterbox, and running away. I heard it click yesterday, and went to the hall to find the card; by the time I'd got the door open, there was nothing but the fading sound of a vehicle driving away.

Really sorry to hear that Chris, they really are unbelievable aren't they?

Thankfully, it seems I no longer have the stupid bint that has been failing to deliver to me for the last seven months. I have recently had two deliveries via Hermes and a bloke has delivered them - on the day they were due too.

Hopefully, this will be the end of my misery with them, but somehow I doubt it. I had a count a few days ago; in the last seven months, I've had 26 deliveries from Amazon with them. Out of all of those, seven never arrived at all and only one actually arrived on the day it was supposed to. :banghead:

Thankfully I'm many miles away from that, but I do wonder at times what some of these planners are on :(

"We" went through a spate of that quite awhile back, with RM & Parcel farce.
But also it was widely reported at the time they were very short staffed and were using "agency staff"
I never understood that, they will only have to come back...

My best guess when that happens is they never had the item with them.
I did actually catch one once and challenged them, they made an excuse they couldn't find it on the van!

Result (y) I wish this one would b****r off!

The worst part with herpes ! Seems to be the central depot , and without having direct access I can hazard a guess that anything that looks valuable is put in a special bin ,reserved for supervisor backhanders .. it’s always gone on but in this day and age it’s easier to notice

Somebody may be able to correct me, but I think your local driver gets somewhere between 40 and 60 pence for the delivery (based on what my local courier told me a while ago - since they deliver packages for less than 3 quid I can't see how it's more than that). They publicise an "average" rate of £9.80 an hour which is a shade over the minimum they can legally pay. That gives them between 3 and 4 minutes to drive to the next house (using their own car, paying for their own fuel), park "legally", get the parcel out, walk up to your door etc etc. And not stop doing that all day. Also take no time at all to load their car.

So either
1. They are working like a machine all day without slowing down or resting delivering packages every 3 minutes and getting less than they would stacking shelves when you consider their costs or
2. They are getting *much* less than living wage and still working pretty hard.

They also don't get paid holidays and I believe that if they do fancy a day off they have to get somebody to cover their shift. On the flip side, if there are no parcels they don't eat.

All those things suggest that Hermes will hire people who for whatever reason can't get work elsewhere (or more likely have other jobs) and that most people won't stay in that job for long (because of course, why would you?).

So yeah - if you want better service you need to pay more. To have somebody come and collect a package from my house and have somebody else deliver it anywhere in the UK for £2.67 is ridiculous.

(FWIW my local couriers are all awesome - the only ones I ever have an issue with are Royal Mail and again that's because they don't have enough people)

I would suggest that is spot on. Certainly in this (my) case.
I had need to talk to the person when they came for a "returns parcel"
They just banged on the door, ( I have a bell too :rolleyes) and stood there like an idiot without saying a word.
When asked who they were ( representing) and what they wanted, it became clear that
English is neither their first language, nor is English comprehension something they are aware of :(

Just one to say thanks to our DPD driver, had a new camera and lens delivered Thursday, arrived on time and everything okay.

To be fair I hit the bell AND knock on the door or window of my customers. I estimate about 70% of bells don't work. Even then I sometimes have to phone them and tell them I'm outside.
Delivery must be an aweful job.
Personally I'd be happier to pay more for a better service and knowing people were getting correctly rewarded.

DPD are one of the best at the moment. They’ll send a text giving an hour delivery slot and because it’s based on live tracking it’s always spot on.

I’ve had the “sorry you were out card, knock and then run away” treatment from Parcelforce before now. I managed to catch the guy before he’d got in his van. Hadn’t even got the parcel with him. I do wonder if they have to do x number of these a day just to keep their performance targets intact.

There's nothing that makes your heart drop faster than finding "hermes" as the courier on your delivery (

It happens I’ve had about 6 Hermes deliveries recently (all from the same supplier) and no problems at all. The tracking etc is naff though. DPD is the gold standard but I’ve had no problems with any deliveries ever :). Maybe it’s the area as well as the driver. It happens that the house numbering is particularly irregular and fairly invisible too.

I always make the second line of my address on forms "if out please leave in porch". It works for everybody except Royal Mail.

To be fair I think the Royal Mail are bound by stricter regulations.

Never sure if some of the posties can actually read or understand numbers. We get a fair amount of wrong post, either to the right number in the wrong road or for a few doors down/opposite. Our current (and previous) Hermes people are (were) great, as are DPD and UPS. Just lucky here, I guess!

The Houses around here are all odds one side even's the other. there are a couple of "greens" than need to be walked though as you can't drive a car onto them

Strangely RM are brilliant at leaving parcels in my safe place. Perhaps its something to do with the "tip" they reciecived at the time that can't be mentioned yet.

As above ;)
Alan Rickman filter?
That was brilliant, and apparently an ad libbed line

Wouldn't it be great if they all did that?
Instead of playing knock down ginger.
I swear a lot of these delivery guys were in training for the 100m sprint at Tokyo

Curiously, I’ve had to deliver mis-delivered mail to about 3 newly built houses in my road and none of them have either bells or knockers. They do have open but sheltered porches and letter boxes.

I have 3 front door bells (don’t ask!) but no knocker and pre pandemic it was quite common for callers to tap on the front door glass as though door bells were beyond their experience :(.

Had Amazon Logistics delivery today, followed him on the google map tracker. Van pulls up to my house, driver gets out and rummages in the back, then proceeds across the road to my neighbours to deliver my item to them. I walk out into the drive and watch as she sends him back, he comes up and says "is this number xx?" Yep I say, the clue is the feckin big number xx on the wall in front of you bud )

Same, though only one door bell, for some reason delivery drivers will only ever knock. I even made a sign for it "If you press it, he will come" but nope, they still knock :D

I misread the title of this thread and thought why would you share that news!

I have a big sign on my front door saying 'Please ring the bell' with an arrow pointing to it and they still bang on the door

I've tried that in the past, along with please ring the bell, if the dog didn't bark we didn't hear you...
That was a waste of paper :(

Got it redelivered via Parcelforce 48. It arrived an hour ago, no problems at all. (y)

Following the OP I obviously contacted the CEO again.
I though I was on the black list TBH.
But no, I finally got a response this morning.

And there goes that Flying Pig.gif again

Dear Chris,

Thank you for getting in touch regarding the recent delivery of parcel H00XXX

I’m very sorry to hear that you have experienced an issue regarding the conduct of a courier and your parcel was delivered in an incorrect manner, left outside in the rain. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We expect a high standard of delivery from our couriers with every parcel, however, we appear to have fallen short for you on this occasion.

I have identified the courier in question and shared details with the local Delivery Team to address this as an urgent issue.

Please be assured that we take these matters very seriously and we will continue to work closely with our Delivery Team to prevent these incidents from occurring in the future.

As the details on this incident have been escalated to the right team to resolve this and will be dealt with internally.

However, if you need any further help, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Kind regards,

Hermes Escalations Team

Hermes were booked to do an Amazon collection on Monday, nothing!
I contacted Amazon on Tuesday and they said that they did not know what had happened but they would cancel Hermes and arrange for a DPD next day collection and that DPD would contact me with the time. I asked if next day meant the next day, i.e. Wednesday or the day after they contacted me but I just got a reply that they would contact me with the time.
Thursday there was a ring at the door, my wife went straightaway and found someone already walking away, no card left. They came back and said that they were from Hermes to collect an Amazon parcel.
Nothing yet from DPD but Amazon have confirmed receipt and refunded me.
Why does it have to be so complicated?

That’s why I always opt for dropping any Amazon returns into the post office. Print off the return label at home, drop it off and the refund is usually done by the time I’m back home.

I had a Hermes delivery today, it arrived on the day I was expecting, and at the time they said. It seems the quality of service Hermes provides (along with many others delivery services?) is down to the local team.

is down to the local team.
I'm sure it is, and its just bad luck that the person doing my area is totally incompetent.
