I want to import photos as I did in Lightroom V2. I seem to get lots of photos with 3.2 but not the one I want. How do I change the settings to import just the one photo I want? Thanks for any help.

Are you importing manually?

What I always do is the following.

  • Copy photo's from camera into folder on the computer
  • Highlight all photo's in the folder
  • drag and drop them into lightroom (you need to be on the 'Library' tab)

Hope that helps :)

Click 'Uncheck All' at the bottom, then just click the tickbox on the top left of the picture you want.

You can highlight any number of pictures in the normal way (click one, then shift click the last in sequence for example) then click the first tickbox and all selection will be ticked.

I should have explained that I always put my images onto an external hard drive. I then want to select from the hard drive the photo I want to use in Light Room (as I always did in the previous versions), but it does not show me a list of the photos to choose from. It loads all the photos in the folder & that could be a few hundred so it takes time then I have to find the photo I want again. Is there a setting to let me do what the previous versions did? Otherwise how can I choose one image only without having to make up a separate folder.

How is the main folder of images getting into lightroom in the first place? Have you set it up to automatically load in every photo that you save onto your hard drive?

On v2 I went to 'Import photo's from Disk'. This went to my hard drive (or wherever I chose to go to) & the individual images came up & I chose the one I wanted.

On v3 I go to 'Import photo's from Disk' & all I can get to is the folder. If I click this all the photos come up in the main window. (On v2 at this point a double click on the photo & I was editing). If I now chose the photo in v3 it seems I have to 'import' but all the photos in that folder come up. I don't want that, I just want the original photo to come up.

Temporarily move the one photo file you want into a new folder to simplify things?

and then put it back where it camer from when you're done.

If it still won't import, there must be something odd about the file.

If you select the " Uncheck All" option at the bottom of the screen and then check the one image you want, it will import that one only

:help: You know how LR3 has 'Devices' above 'Files' in the Import dialog?

The first device in my list is my Y: drive which is an offsite backup drive.
As a result it takes ****in' ages to read it everytime I want to import something 'cos it scans the first device in the list automatically to show a load of thumbs! :shake:

How do I stop it doing this please?
